  1. This is just a side note, but if anyone here who smokes, wants motivation to quit smoking, I recomend visiting the Bodies exihibit at the museum center. Talk about a wake up call. They have a section that shows all of the thousands of air pockets in your lungs that get clogged with tar as you smoke. In addition, there is a part where a worker is holding a preserved lung of a smoker and, well you can probably imagine that it was in pretty rough shape. The exihibit was amazing but also made you tingle seeing the different parts of your body like that. I can honestly say, that I could NEVER take up smoking after seeing the effects of it presented in that way. For some reason, the majority of displays have lungs that were smokers and it is very very apparent the affects between the non-smokers and the smokers.
  2. car, and you never know when you'll want to work on something that would require you to take the car off the road. If you are however interested in a DeLorean, one of my friends in Lebanon has one for sale that is in great shape and very reliable. I know because I helped him rebuild it. I believe he wants mid 20K for the car. It's definately a fun car to have. I wouldn't trade the car

  3. The rule with DeLoreans is 25k. If you buy a 5K car you'll put 20K into restoring it. If you buy one for 15K you'll put 10K in it, if you buy one for 25K it will probably be pretty reliable. Reguardless, you do not want a DeLorean as a daily driver. My car is incredibly reliable, but I would never dream of using it as a daily driver. For one it would cause road wear that would devalue the

  4. I do not understand the mindset that Cedar Fair is deliberately trying to make their guests have a poor time. Its similar to when guests act as though the park has ride break downs on purpose.
  5. Great photos Gordon. Definately intresting and enlightening. Those are going to be some amazing pedal boats. I hope its the swan boats from Cedar Point that were removed in maverick construction. BTW, I'm still waiting on some pictures...
  6. You should try to get in touch with Train Driver. http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php?...p;hl=recreation
  7. Dude, how much? My family just bought 4 acres in North Carolina (about 45 min from Carowinds). Our whole group could pitch in and we could rebuild this thing. Heck you and Tyler are practically Bub and Jim. We should do it. We only have to get it certified if we're going to have people pay to experience it. Otherwise it's just a fun project. We need to get a hold of Jerry Couch and see what he's asking.
  8. What? Are you assuming that they moved the concrete footers from geauga lake? All the footers you see were poured before the ride was moved, they go very deep into the ground. They're not just sitting on top of the ground. Also that ride is not built on concrete, its built on a dirt field. PS. We dont use the word footers around here, the correct word is footings.
  9. It's always closed the last week of august. Yes it's due to the fact that about 90% of their staff is under the age of 24 and seeking education, most of which starts at the end of August. Keep in mind that if the staff is in school, much of the parks patronage is in school. Thus there is no purpose to be open. June and August Monday-Thursdays are the best. Also it is due to both quarter schools and semester schools. Quarter schools get out late and go back late, semester schools get out early and go back early.
  10. There is still the river that flows up by the train and the basketball game. Thats why its RIVERtown, not "Lake town" or "Pond town." I'm pretty sure they intend on filling at least a little of the lake so that the river has a place to run to and water get pumped from.
  11. Of the two beams that run under the cars, isn't the one without brake fins woooden where the one with brake fins steel? Dont forget that the electrical contacts for the restraints have to face the opposite direction now. Oh and we forgot the last step, "head to the sizzler for steaks." mmmmmmmm......
  12. Hey good to see you Bukowski! It's a rare opportunity to see you here. Yea there's that extra step in there aside from the normal disassemble-reassemble. More like disassemble, scratch head, modify, scratch head, modify, scratch head, modify, reassemble, scratch head...
  13. Actually the most comprehensive search is preformed by searching: "Kings Island" (with quotations), that way only the posts with the word "island" directly after the word "kings" shows up.
  14. Yay! I however will not be at the park this weekend. My weekends are very tight right now and will probably not find time to go to the park for quite some time.
  15. The lights worked once, maybe KI will restore nostalgia to that ride this year too... Gordon, we all know that it takes 25 years for Kings Island to restore nostalgia to a ride; just look at Racer. Lets see, that means we should have in car audio, headlights, fishtailing, and stair effects in the year 2030 or so.
  16. HAHA, well then it's probably a good thing they didnt have them vibrating peoples bowels otherwise people would have started buzzing at the same frequency and who knows what kind of troubles (or messes) that would have caused.
  17. When we had training for the ride in 05, tech services was testing the stair effect. They DID have the parts for the stair effect, they were just never on the ride when guests were there because they never worked right. Once the ride opened, they were always in a milk crate in the closet. They were in essence a small subwoofer inside a casing that was installed under the butt of each seat. They were not very convincing and often worked when they were not supposed to. I remember working the unload panel and sending a train into the loading area with all of them buzzing (not supposed to happen). I also remember sitting in a seat with one buzzing; it was not very stair-like. It was more like a very rough massage chair. MarketingExpress, I remember riding the ride with Kevin that week when we were testing where gold-pass processers could ride and having sound trying to get those stair effects working. We were definately the part of the few that got to experience the poor excuse for an effect. Believe me, if they had run with the idea, anyone who didn't know that it was a "stair effect," would think there was a problem or that the track was rough going down that hill. It was not a "bump bump bump bump bump bump bump bump bump,'' more likle a "buzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz."
  18. Yea but the changes they've made to tomb raider are really a thorn in the side. Tomb Raider will always be Tomb Raider nomatter how ****ty it becomes; it's part of the rides nature. I'll probably simplify IJs new acronym to BS aswell...
  19. Uh, yeah, except, you're forgetting about how it has been re-profiled in various ways numerous times, probably won't get any new paint, still has trim brakes, and certainly is not the same ride it once was. Hey hey hey, they may yet be planning on putting that 4th bunny hill back in.
  20. At least this way the center of gravity is in the same place on both trains. Before, when backwards and forward were neck and neck going up the lift, backwards racer always won because the center of gravity was further forward, thus the center of gravity crested the lift first.
  21. I remember the show you're talking about. Unfortunately I dont remember the name but it was in either 95,96, or 97.
  22. While you are right, it does take an incredible amount of work, regardless of whether the train was being flipped around or not that work was going to be done. The trains are disassembled every off season and as the individual parts are cleaned it is determined what needs replacing. The trains are then put back together, and as you said this takes an incredible amount of work and attention to detail. It is also very time consuming. Now with turning the backwards Racer forwards they have two options: 1: As DeloreanRider stated the brake fins are located to one side (Rider, the chain dogs and rollback do only work in one direction but they are located in the center, hence why the brake fin is off center) This means that the brakes for the ride are located off-center on the track. If the train is rebuilt as it was in past years and just put on the track in a different direction then they would have to change all those brakes on the track around. That seems like it would be more work than needed and that there is an easier sollution: 2: Just flip the brake fins on the undercarriage around so that they line up with the brakes on the track. Essentially you're doing the same off season work except just putting the fin back on on the other side. Like DeloreanRider said, no matter which option is chosen it is time consuming and unless they want The Racer opening late in the season I'd wager that the decision has been made and they are saving the official announcement for a later press release. The other option would to be; since the frame and the body are in essence to separate sections, to in the re-assembling of the trains, attempt to modify them such that the bodies go back together facing the opposite direction on the frames. It's been a while since I've taken a good hard look at the frames of one of these cars so I'm not sure how much easier it would be but I'm sure it's possible. I know that some of the electrical contacts that stick out would have to be modified and probably other things. Reguardless the bottom line is either way, it is a big task to turn the trains around.
  23. There is an incredible amount of work required to turn a train backward. It is not as simple as just flipping the train around. The trains have to be completely rebuilt. If you've ever seen one of these trains disassembeled you understand. The undersides of the trains are anything but symmetrical. For example, anti rollbacks and such only work in one direction on one side. This decision was made long ago. The park doesn't just make decisions like this on the fly. Dont get your hopes up of riding the backwards racer...
  24. Wow, this is really &^%*ing big. I know a guy with a 30,000sq/ft warehouse where we work on cars and it's enormous. He rents space out to three separate tenants and there is still extra room.
  25. I guess I understand that. Can you actually post with the text allerts or do you only recieve posts. The wdwmagic moble does require you to have internet on your phone. I use it every now and then on my razr. Since the texting doesnt operate in your phones browser, can you send things to the website, or only recieve things. What exactly is an alert? An entire post, or an alert that someone has posted? We should have a user manual for this .
