I was thinking the same thing earlier when I saw those images of Canada`s Wonderland`s WindSeeker! -

Looks like the first piece of the crown of the tower has been lifted into place. -

Sand is the base for pavers. The grooves in the sand are from where they used pipes to screed the sand to make it a level surface. The reason you see a lip around the edge, is to account for the thickness of the pavers. -
And soon, we will be able to stand in that spot and see a very different view!

Dinosaurs Alive! is coming to Kings Island in 2011

I actually remember Cedar Fair saying at one point in time, that approximately 40% of the attendance at the former Paramount Parks came from pass holders, while that number was substantially lower (like 10%) at the legacy parks. -
Not to mention, the fact that I-275 is not far from Coney, and the noise from the traffic can be heard at Moonlite Gardens. Especially in the early evening hours after all the rides close, and the crowds have dispersed!

Zoo goes solar in big green test
CoastersRZ replied to CoastersRZ's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I have found memories from going to the Cincinnati Zoo on field trips back in elementary school! The zoo has been a leader in green technology and buildings. Part of that also has to do with the fact that they are set as an educational facility, and more importantly, they are a not-for profit organization. -
But if Falfas was indeed fired, and did not resign, as Q is alleging, then did Cedar Fair not mislead the unit holders? It certainly seems very suspicious to me. And it certainly will further tarnish Kinzel`s reputation, in my opinion. That and the Apollo deal certainly made Kinzel look like he only ever had his best interests in mind, and not those of the company or unit holders.

Georgia! There is a song or something like that right? Notice they are building the "roof" to the tower on the ground, before they lift it into place. -
Of course, it's almost certainly just because of Kings Mills, Ohio, which does not contain an apostrophe even if one is "implied" since apostrophes are quite rare in city names. You would think that would be the case. But I recently had to replot a rendering that listed Mayslick as such. Why did we have to reprint it? Because apparently it is spelled "May`s Lick" complete with an apostrophe.

And of course, the log flume at KI currently has an operator at the top of the final hill. But of course, that is also where the main controls for the ride are as well.
-
And is it also not true that when Beast first opened, they would have a ride operator sitting out on the second lift hill?
-
I find it highly unlikely that they will require a ride operator at the top. Why? Because I`m sure some cameras would suffice, not to mention, I`m sure there would be some liability issues with requiring a worker positioned that high. OSHA regulations can be quite complicated.

I actually rode Son of Beast once when there was a camera mounted to the train. It was quite a contraption to see. That was many years ago though. The reason I was riding Son of Beast was, the Discovery Channel was filming for a new show, back when they used to air new coaster shows every Memorial day weekend.
-
And you can tell that this ride vibrates similar to the other rides based on a few seconds of video posted to YouTube? Keep in mind, that depending on how the camera was mounted, and the type of camera, some of the vibration could just be a result of the camera mount. The ride looked pretty smooth to me...

Zoo goes solar in big green test
CoastersRZ replied to CoastersRZ's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Except for the fact that the zoo did not pay for these solar panels to be installed over their parking lot. Other companies (primarily PNC and the company installing them, lined up the necessary financing, in part through grant money, to pay for these panels. It would be certainly cost prohibitive for Kings Island to install solar panels on a parking lot the size of theirs. At least at this point in time anyway. Yes, eventually the price may come down. But add into the fact, that the operating costs once installed still will not produce significant savings when compared to normal electric rates. (Coal produced electricity in this part of the country is relatively cheap energy. -

As I`ve said before, that addition they are putting onto the restroom likely is the electrical room for WindSeeker. -

That "small white lift thing" is actually another crane. And it doesn`t actually lift the pieces so that the bigger crane can pick them up. When they go to lift the pieces, both cranes attach to the piece, one on each side. Once the yellow crane starts lifting, the other crane swings over while lifting. The whole point of this, is so that when the yellow crane lifts the crane, the other crane is there to lift the piece, and keep it from dragging across the trailer, potentially damaging the piece, and scraping up the paint job. That is the eighth and final piece. There will likely be the red top, piece, as seen in the renderings, assuming that the top of the ride hasn`t changes since the renderings were made... -
Why would I be complaining about a lack of waiting in lines? The only time I did wish there had been a line is when I experienced the Harry Potter ride. The line is part of the adventure of that ride, and having practically two walk on rides didn`t allow me to fully experience the queue line...
