  1. Yes, people can do some pretty crazy things. Oh the stories I can tell. I was once called a "Nazi" for enforcing the park rules. And I once responded to a complaint, as a manager, with a guest claiming that a worker was discriminating with their enforcement of the height requirement based on the color of the skin. Those are just a few of the examples that I've experienced at Coney over the years. And yes, I have been cussed out before. It is really ashame that these parents will act this way in front of their kids...
  2. I wonder if they will shut down WindSeeker fir the fireworks, much like they do with the Raver and The Beast?
  3. But pay attention to that last line. Particularly the park about "if financing can be secured."
  4. Yes, but I think that mo dual, the manufacturer won't give out that big of a discount for buying four attractions at once. There could have been a discount though. Getting four rods to manufacture at once is a lot more work than just building one..
  5. Yes, but by that theory, it is a little odd that both Kings Island AND Cedar Point are getting WindSeeker, in the same season. Both are the same ride. Doesn`t exactly scream that they are trying to complement each other. Instead, it screams sameness.
  6. Gotta love the "Temporarily Closed" sign, old school style!
  7. To those who have been to Coney, the brick building is the back of the games building. The Carousel, is off to the right of the image. Moonlite Gardens is behind where this image was taken. Lake Como is on the other side of the games building. The three pitched roofs behind the backhoe is now the comissary for group picnics, but was once the German themed eatery the last few seasons of the "Old Coney." That building backs up to the two story white administrations building (two stories, because the main offices are on the second floor, in case of flooding).
  8. And while were at it, what about the junior wooden coasters at Carowinds, KI, and Kings Dominion?
  9. And to be fair, you are not the target market for this new attraction. It is geared to families with kids. I`m sure kids will be thoroughly intrigued by this attraction.
  10. Really? I had not heard that. Are they removing a ride to put that in? Their current ride midway is pretty tight, unless they expand it. And to answer the leading question, I give you this image, taken by one of my fellow rides managers from Coney a couple weeks ago:
  11. Keep in mind, that I was not just talking about Cedar Point and Kings Island in my earlier post...
  12. That is a very wise post. Remember that MOST of the people who visit this site tend to be enthusiasts in some degree or another. But this attraction is NOT geared towards us. It is geared towards families. And in the grand scheme of things, $5 is not a lot. Heck, look at the cost of movies, and most other entertainment options.
  13. Yes, but that is hard to judge. It could be a long term investment for Cedar Fair... At the very least, I think this attraction will be around for a couple season, if for no other reason than the fact that the park is having to do some civil work and electrical work in the woods behind The Racer in order to make a 4,000 foot long path over 12 acres. (Keep in mind that an acre is comprised of 43,560 square feet...) All that work requires a significant investment. If it was a temporary attraction for only a season, I think they would have located it in an area that is more easily accessible.
  14. In part because the owners were attempting to do what seemed impossible: replace the amusement park that everyone had grown up going to. Think about it. Hypothetically speaking, if Cedar Fair decided to move Kings Island, wouldn`t that make you a little upset? That is exactly what Taft did with Coney back in the early 70s. Coney was left for dead. But here it is, entering its 125 anniversary season in a couple months, co-existing with Kings Island, and still surviving floods (there is still a little bit of flood waters left in the parking lot between Coney and River Downs, otherwise, the park is now dry).
  15. 2011, the year of the swing ride in amusement parks in the state of Ohio. Swing high or low. Young and old.
  16. Cue the You Tube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MDVhB0jGP7I
  17. I think $5 is a pretty fair price. Remember, that the last few season of the wild animal habitat they were charging $1 or two per person. It certainly is better than what they could have charged for it. They could have made it $15 or so per person. While, it would have been nice to have been included, with say a Platinum pass which is the premium pass option, and comes at a pretty significant uptick in price versus a KI only pass, I think it is wise to not have this be part of the general admission to KI. Why? Think about it from an operations standpoint. Kings Island has a LOT of pass holders. If they were to make it free, the attraction would undoubtedly have huge lines. By charging some money, they help regulate the crowds going through the attraction, while also offsetting some of the cost involved with the attraction. In time, hopefully the revenue from this new attraction will allow Cedar Fair to invest in more rides like WindSeeker and Diamondback. (And yes, I am anxiously looking forward to riding WindSeeker! And I will likely pay the $5 a couple of times this season to see the dinosaurs. It depends on what the rest of the group I`m hanging out with wants to do though.
  18. By the way, the caption in that second link has been corrected to reflect that it is in fact an image of Don, and not Greg Scheid.
  19. With that one piece, it is already out of the original webcam shot!
  20. I was not talking about maximum height requirements on the kiddy rides. He was referring to kids being too short for the rides. In fact, once the kids outgrow most of the kiddy rides, they are then tall enough to ride the rest of the rides. I am well aware that most of the kiddy rides have MAXIMUM height requirements.
  21. The outdoor park will sprawl over 12 acres of Kings Island. More than 60 life size dinosaurs, many of them animatronic, will be spread over the 4,000 foot long trail. Included in the park is an animatronic of the Ruyang Yellow River dinosaur, which measures an incredible 72 feet long, 12 feet wide and 30 feet high! The dinosaurs were created by the Canadian-based company "Dinosaurs Unearthed." Dinosaurs Alive! will be open daily beginning May 26 from 10am until dusk. The dinosaur park is not included with general park admission or a 2011 season pass. A separate admission ticket of just $5.00 is required for this major attraction. 22. Who is to say this thread will die after tomorrow? And, the Dyson dryers fault lies in the fact that because of their design, they do NOT effectively dry your hands quickly. And in restrooms that are as high capacity as Kings Islands, you need hand dryers that are going to effectively dry your hands in a quick manner. And for the record, even Coney Island uses Xcelerators...
  23. Exactly. It would be, in my opinion, best if the park started with a clean slate for a new ride in the area currently occupied by Son of Beast, than to try and put a band aid, or even transplant a new concept onto the ride. It could work, but would be a huge gamble, and I`d much rather see a ride built from a clean slate without all the baggage that Son of Beast has.
  24. Agreed. But maybe that is part of their strategy. They want to install the Dysons in Rivertown, so that those who get drenched on the water rides cannot dry their head with the Xcelerators, but instead are forced to pay $5 for the haystack dryer.
  25. So why does Q keep insisting on suing Cedar Fair and holding these special meetings? By now, aren`t they costing Cedar Fair quite a bit of money? And it is a little puzzling that Q keeps buying more units in Cedar Fair, yet they seem to have be such an adversary to everything that Cedar Fair does. It will be interesting to see what comes of this lawsuit. More interesting will be to see who is selected as the CEO elect.
