  1. And look how that turned out. Today we have Kings Island without the Shooting Star, and Coney Island and Sunlite pool are still open. Although Coney as an amusement park is a mere shadow of what it was when it "closed" in 1971. And technically, that rumor about X-Flight being dismantled didn`t arise until early November.
  2. That was located north of the park and the new Great Wolf Lodge. If you go north on Kings Island Drive past the GWL, you will come to a traffic light at Kings Mills Road. Off to the right at this light is a large field this was where the College Football Hall of Fame used to reside. The hall of fame has long since moved from there, but the building was only recently torn down (within about the last five years or so).
  3. Well, the day for single flip down buzz bars at large parks is long gone. I mean, those restraints are long gone on The Racer and The Beast. They are still there on The Beastie, but those trains are a lot smaller and they do have seatbelts. Most new installs with PTC trains will use the individual lap bars. However, Son of Beast trains, at least the ones from Premier, could not have PTC styled lapbars. Because of the difference in manufacturer. At least not without major modifications to the trains. Which might be happening for this season anyway as they rework the trains to make them lighter and offer a more enjoyable experience for the guests.
  4. I know that. But usually, when people post sarcastic responses, it is in reference to a recently posted post. Additionally, they will often post some nonsarcastic thoughts in their post.
  5. Huh? The park already has announced that they will open the 2007 season on April 21, 2007. No big surprise there. And what is your second sentence supposed to mean?
  6. Well, how about all your posts that have spelling and capitalization errors in them? (There are numerous ones of those as examples). Also, your attitude that you proclaim to know the inner workings at Kings Island and what is going on from your "sources." I don`t need to bring up the over used (and recently mentioned in a recent thread) proverb about people who know but don`t tell. I doubt that the repairs for Son of Beast are considered routine offseason maintenance akin to normal retracking (which they are doing on the ride). The money for the fixes of the structural issues with the ride has to come from somewhere, where exactly is a whole separate issue. Even after the park spills the beans with the announcement, there will still be a lot to talk about. As the season approaches, there will likely be many updates involving Kings Island, such as possibly a new website, a new logo with the 'P' missing, and possibly some construction updates from the goings on at Ft. Cooper. (Is the activity really just a "a publicity stunt by a local amusement park for their latest attraction?")
  7. Well, the only way they can be turned off is if they are actually removed from the track area. I believe in preseason, before the ride is running up to normal summer speed, they remove one of the magnetic trims from the top of the second hill (it can usually be seen on the catwalk next to the brakes that they didn`t remove).
  8. The at the gate cost of a 2007 general admission ticket to Kings Island will be $44.95. But of course, as mentioned above, you can get a pretty good discount for ordering in advance. Also, if you don`t buy in advance, there are often coupons available at local stores/restaurants on general admission.
  9. Well, they did raise the height requirements on several of the rides back at the beginning of 2005. I know they increased the height requirements on the Fairly Odd Coaster, and Wild Thornberrys River Adventure. I doubt that there will be any significant changes in height requirements for next season. Unless Cedar Fair wants to impose some changes to bring KI`s requirements more in line with the rest of Cedar Fair`s corporate strategy at its other parks.
  10. Why do you think that Kings Island will get two rides? What leads you to think that? $10 million does not go very far when it comes to rides and capital expenditures. I HIGHLY doubt they will announce anything on a weekend. Most announcements are made during the week, when more people will tune into the local evening news. Which means that they will reach more people woth news about the new attraction by announcing it on a weekday.
  11. I don`t know about The Beastie thing. I always thought that 1980 was the year it earned that name. But, that guide sure does make a big deal about The Beast, so it could very well be 1979 that The Beastie had its name changed. Also, some more pictures have been added to the history gallery here. These pictures include shots of the Sunshine Turnpike, Boulder Bumpers and Witches Cauldren, the Ball Crawl in Hanna Barbera Land, as well as a couple of shots from the live Smurf stage show in the International Showplace. Enjoy the pictures! And, congratulations Maureen and Tim!
  12. Yes, I second many of the Interpreter`s comments. Often times, people will remember only the happy memories, while forgoing the negative ones. The park is a different place today than it was when it opened. (Heck, its even dramatically different than it was five years ago). However, the park is larger and offers more for guests to do today, at least as far as ride experience goes. Entertainment isn`t all there yet. That being said, when kids are young they can be awed by the simplest things. I mean, numerous times I would be running the coaster at Coney, and kids would think it was the best ride in the world. Or that the Frog Hopper or Scream Machine were the best rides in the world. Well, if they have never been to Kings Island to experience those rides, they don`t know what they are missing. But the underlying principle at both Coney and Kings Island, is that families, both kids and adults can make lasting fun filled memories on the various rides and attractions at the parks. Memories that will last a lifetime.
  13. Patience my friend. Patience. Any such announcement will come in due time. Trust me.
  14. PKIDelirium, how do you know that Carowinds is using that on their letterhead? And, you never know, those pictures might just be the same picture.
  15. As others have said, this "logo" that is on the season pass page is likely still temporary and not the finalized new logo for Kings Island. But it is worth noting that both the Paramount name is gone, as is any reference to movies, aka the filmstrip across the temporary passes they gave out in September and October. Also of note, is that Kings Island is the only Paramount Park that has updated with new season pass images. As the park begins to prepare for its 35th anniversary year in the coming months, we are likely to learn some more things about how exactly Cedar Fair plans to run Kings Island.
  16. And yes, PKIVortex, the park did secure permission from Ryan before using the pictures from our site.
  17. It should also be noted, that they changed the picture for Son of Beast, from the infamous shot of the loop with the Eiffel Tower, to one without the loop in it. But they still have yet to update the attraction fact sheet which can be found under the media center. Yes, that is a very strong indication that the 'P' word will be dropped from the name. I do hope that their logo will be better than that simple text though. Seems a bit too plain. But they likely haven`t even come close to finalizing something like that yet.
  18. Topgun 1993, those new speakers on the train weren`t new for this season. They were in place for FearFest last year (I believe), but I know they were in place for WinterFest.
  19. Right, he was talking about the creek culvert which I was referring to in my post. But Capt. Nemo is correct about the other "tunnel" as well.
  20. That would be a culvert for the creek. They essentially buried the creek that runs in the valley throughout the entire site of Son of Beast. It is the same creek that originates over by Top Gun and goes through a similar pipe there by the station and access road. It then emerges from the pipe before going into the new pipe that was built when SoB was built in 2000, right at the edge of the Top Gun site (which is visible just above the turn to the lift hill on SoB).
  21. Well, I made my innaugural visit to HolidayFest last night. Also in my company were Ryan (Boddah1994), Bill (ZosoBeast), and Ronny (CombatStupendous89). Bill, Ronny and myself lucked out when some nice gentleman gave us his three unneeded tickets for Holiday Fest in the parking lot, so we didnt have to pay the $12 admission fee. That is the thing that hurt WinterFest last year. Admission to The Beach`s HolidayFest is $12 at the gate, but they offer some pretty steep discounts if you order in advance online, or you have a group of 10 or more. A group of ten or more could get admission for $8 a person. The toboggan slide was fun, and a little faster than I expected. They did have a lot of lights on the handrails of the steps up to many of their slides. They also had a lot of live animals scattered throughout, which is something that could have benefited WinterFest. We then rode the Berry Go Round, and got it spinning insanely fast. We checked out the ice rink, but didn`t skate as the rink was very crowded. Here is another example of them doing things right. A rink pass to skate on the rink was included with admission. If you didn`t have any skates, you could rent them for $6. The last thing we did before leaving was rode the pedal boats in their lazy river. The line was a little long for it, but it was a unique attraction. The pedal boats are NOT the ones from Coney like I thought they were. All of Coney`s boats are blue in color (not white like half of the boats the Beach had) and are in better shape/newer than the ones the Beach had. Once in the boats it took a while, becuase the boat in the front of the pack was steered by two people that couldn`t quite get a handle on how to steer the thing, and kept turning it perpendicular to the trough (which having worked the pedal boats at Coney, it is not uncommon for people to have some difficulities steering the boats). Overall, I had a fun time at Holiday Fest. However, there just didn`t seem to be as much activities as there was at WinterFest. Especially in the live entertainment department. No parade, or main stage musical production. But on the flipside, The Beach seemed to have more lights throughout the park compared to Kings Island last year. While it was fun, between WinterFest and Holidayfest, I would select Winterfest, hands down, had they not cancelled it because it didn`t make money.
  22. Do a little searching on the forums, and you will find what the speculation is saying that Kings Island will get next season.
  23. The thing that is saddest about Wings, is that it always seems that not a lot of people eat there. For having ample indoor seating, it always seemed empty on busy summer days. I also believe that the Buffet style they had in there at FearFest this past year is a step in the right direction to reviving a good indoor eating area. But it still needs some work. With some tweaking, that restaurant could be a prime hopping spot and bring in a lot of money for the park.
  24. Yes, they played that entire thing in the queue line for The Beast in 2004 and 2005. They did not play it in the line this past season though. The only difference between the video online and the one that they played in the park is that the one that played in the park was occasionally interrupted for commercials for park sponsors, as well as to promote park restaurants and live entertainment such as the Nick Celebration Parade.
  25. Why do you think that? I believe that Cedar Fair is well aware of the money and visitors that KI brings in. They are not just going to sit idle and not continue to invest in Kings Island. Sure, Cedar Point will still likely get the record breaking coasters. But it is only about a five hour drive from Cincinnati. And besides, as I stated earlier, I doubt that Cedar Fair will sit idle with KI and not invest in the park. If they were to do that, people would not have a reason to make return visits and spend money inside the park. I mean, look at all the existing Cedar Fair parks that have been in the company for several years. With the exception of Geauga Lake, and to a lesser extent Michigan`s Adventure, all their properties have received some sort of signature attraction. Cedar Fair seems to be pretty fair about spreading the capital expenditures around, especially to parks that have been bringing in money. Which from the last conference call, the Paramount Parks per capita spending was doing quite well.
