  1. Yes, you`d be amazed at what you can do with hard work! I got into one of the best architecture schools in the country (UC`s Master`s of Architecture was recently ranked number two in the country, behind only Harvard). You`d be surprised how many firms in the Cincinnati area deal with amusement parks/entertaintment industry. Jack Rouse and Associates, International Theme Park Services and Bruce D. Robinson Architectural Design. I applied at the last one I mentioned for a co-op job, but did not get the job. Ironically, all three of those companies can trace their roots to Taft Broadcasting when it developed Kings Island.
  2. Sure, there is always that possibility. But, Cedar Fair has said that they will honor the commitments that Paramount Parks had planned when they were controlled by CBS. Granted, with the way CBS started off the year with slashing budgets and operating hours to try and save cash at every corner, I would expect that same line of thought translated (at least a little bit) into the 2007 capital budgets. While it is clear that KI will not get a major coaster next year, I do think that they will get a new attraction. While it may or may not be a ride, (a flat ride in Coney Mall would be a welcome addition), I`m sure that some money will be spent at KI in the offseason. Whether it be on sprucing up areas of the park or adding a new attraction, or both, I don`t know. Just be patient, and enjoy the last month of the 2006 season before we enter the long five month off season!
  3. Well, I`m sure you will hear and see a lot about it on this site. Especially after dry run/media day this Thursday. I know that some of the staff members here will be attending that night to check things out. I believe that they will still be using the train and WWC exit as the Headless Hollow haunt.
  4. That caption is not the only error in the article. Uh, last time I checked, The Beast was still the longest wooden coaster in the world, followed by Son of Beast and The Voyage. Also, The Beast had long since been eclipsed for its speed record. Heck, I even think that Mean Streak had beaten The Beast`s speed record. Not to mention that The Beast`s 7,359 feet of track equals a distance of 1.4 miles, while Son of Beast`s 7,032 feet of track equals the 1.3 that the author claims The Beast has.
  5. No Massacre Manor does not reach that far into the building. It mostly stays behind the game portion of the building, where the exit is. The former side where Rock Shop was at, has not been, at least in year`s past, used as a FearFest attraction.
  6. I believe then that they are using the same setup they had at WinterFest last year, perhaps? I did not attend Nights of Fire this year, so do not know how they had the lighting set up. I know that at WinterFest, they had one light next to the International Band Stand, I believe on the the left side. Then there was a pair on the ground by each leg as well.
  7. Yeah, technically. But I believe it was their intention from the time they were installed to use them for special event. It just looks like they may be used all the time the park is open past dark, instead of on those special occasions like Nights of Fire and FearFest.
  8. I was replying to TopGun1993 who had hoped that Monster Mash would start tomorrow at the Paramount Theater.
  9. FearFest does not start until next Saturday.
  10. Actually, that is incorrect. They did use the lights this season, for Nights of Fire. And I think they had planned all along to use them for FearFest. I certainly won`t have a problem with them using the lights on normal days throughout the summer, as they definantely make the Tower look cool at night.
  11. A few comments. First, the trains at PKI run on propane which is used to heat the water in the boiler to turn it into steam. Not sure how much it costs them to buy the propane, but I would have to imagine that it isn`t that terribly much (I mean they did install IJST with fire effects that are powered by propane). And at WinterFest last year, as well as FearFest last year, they were running both trains. At FearFest, running both trains is a necessity as they only run three coaches per engine instead of the usual six to help with capacity at the Pumpkin Patch and in the Headless Hollow haunt. As for the turning radius. When KI opened WaterWorks in 1989, they altered the layout of the track by WaterWorks to accomodate the WW loading platform. The turn immediately after the platform is tighter than the recommended turning radius by Crown Metal products. But it has run fine at KI ever since they made the changes.
  12. Actually, according to the Worlds of Fun website, the Max Pass for Worlds of Fun is $85. The save ten dollars that applies to the Max Pass also applies to the Worlds of Fun only and the Oceans of Fun only pass. In other words, the prices that are listed are discounted down $10 from what the price will be after November 10th. Worlds of Fun Season Pass Page And, it has been reported over on Screamscape that Canada`s Wonderland WILL sell a Max pass starting sometime in November, after the park has closed for the season. I have to wonder why such a delay in offering this option at the park. Especially since the Maxx passes sold at the other parks have always included admission to this property.
  13. Well, I wouldn`t look for Cedar Fair to pull the plug on FearFest at Kings Island. It has been immensely popular. I mean, just look at how the crowds balloon after diner time in the park! Yes, FearFest at Canada`s Wonderland, Scarowinds at Carowinds, and Knott`s Scary Farm admission are not included with a Cedar Fair Maxx pass. These events are separate gated events. KI`s FearFest used to be a separate event from its inception in 2000 through the 2002 season. In 2003, they decided to make it free with park admission and to season pass holders.
  14. Well, you never know with PKI, they have surprised us with things in the past. But I just think that they will be busy with working on other things elsewhere in the park during the offseason.
  15. I doubt it. Keep in mind, that up until midway through last summer, The Festhaus was home to four large projection screens (very bad projectors too) showing QTV. I know that as far back as the fall of 2003, that they would show football games in the Festhaus. At least the projectors and televisions they have in there now are better quality than the ones they used to have in there. Could Cedar Fair retheme it next year? Sure. But I doubt they will do that for next season, but possibly in future years.
  16. At 7 o`clock, all rides in Nick Universe will close. Also, some flats may close in Coney mall, depending on staffing, at seven pm. All the scarezones (and houses) will become active at 7pm. All the frightful fun times will go on until midnight. It also seems like they will have plenty of roaming actors on International Street after 7pm to greet all those coming for a hauntingly good time. It definantely sounds like FearFest this year has the potential to be one of the best yet.
  17. Was there really any doubt that they would not have a Simulator going for FearFest? Especially after Carowinds announced that they would have a Elvira going for Scarowinds.
  18. I wonder why their Maxx pass is so much lower? (I`m not complaining though, because I got my Maxx pass at Kings Island this past weekend for $105, thanks to the $20 off special they were having for P&G day). Yikes. I hat to think what Kings Island`s parking will be for those who are not renewing their passes, but buying for the first time.
  19. Yeah, an online link would be nice. I tried looking at the WKRC website (as well as Cincinnati.com) and found nothing.
  20. Well, I know that all three of the administrators were at the shoot. I would have liked to have been there, but it was my first day back at my co-op job. Glad to hear it was a fun time (and to see the pictures of those dressed up).
  21. Well, up until around 2000, the park would always close after the last weekend in October. We just got spoiled the last couple of years with them closing in the first weekend in November. And, no the FearFest stuff is not crap. It has become a widely popular event at the park. Why would the park not open in April next year? Yes, Cedar Point opens in May, but they are also several hundred miles north and thus they remain colder longer up there. Granted, we have become spoiled with the operating season. Back in the days of Coney Island, the season would begin on Memorial Day weekend, and close at the end of the day on Labor Day.
  22. I thought I made it to the final four. Couldn`t remember. I just know that I was not expecting to be voted off when I was. I just knew too much information about the park that I was perceived as a threat, LOL.
  23. Yes, it is a fun little game. I was a part of the original Survivor. I don`t recall when I was voted off, but I believe I was fifth overall. I could search and find out, but don`t really want to right now (not like it really matters anyway). I might be game for this one, depending how strong the support is, and if there is a need for some people. It also depends on when the game is held. If it spills too far into February/March, I will likely have to sit it out, due to a heavy workload with winter quarter of my senior year at UC (I`m on co-op through Christmas).
  24. Well, I don`t know if it is a roller coaster or not. I do know that they intend to expand next year. It potentially could be one of the largest expansions they`ve done in the years that I have worked there.
