  1. I don`t think there will be much of a change in the park. I think the only reason they switched the divisions was for management purposes. While I do think there might be more Nick stuff in the parks, look at the past couple of years. More Nick stuff has come into the park the past couple of seasons anyway.
  2. Saturdays FearFest will be open until midnight. However, on Sundays, it will close at 9, an hour earlier than last year. I don`t know how that will allow for much time to experience the haunted trail, which didn`t open until 8 last year, and had really long lines.
  3. The Racer is in pretty good shape. In fact they repainted the station this season. They also replaced the fencing along the exit path. Additionally, they painted the actual coaster from the station to around where the transfer track is.
  4. The park has closed the first weekend in November the past couple of seasons, dating back to 2000 I bellieve then they closed on the 6th of November. The announcement might not even be for a new ride or for the Great Wolf Lodge. Remember that August is around the time they start selling season passes for next season, so I`m sure the announcement will be to push season pass sales. Also, not to add any rumors to the fire, but it has been talked about that Winterfest could return. I don`t think that is what the announcement is about, but with PKI, you never know until they say so.
  5. It used to be that when you renewed your pass in the fall, you would recieve a ticket for any day in the remainder of the season. However, the last couple of seasons, those tickets have only been valid the final weekend of the season. I think the park knows it gets crowded and guests can`t experience everything. This way the people that got in free will want to buy a ticket or season pass to return later when it is not crowded so they can experience everything they want to.
  6. From what I have heard is that the parade will run twice daily. Once from Hanna Barbera Land through to the gate to the right of The Beast in Rivertown. The second parade would be in the reverse direction in order to get the floats back to the front of the park. I don`t know if that is official or anything, but that is what I remember hearing from someone, maybe Shaggy.
  7. Earlier this year when I was riding the Eagles, I managed to have a small twig on a tree brush the underside of my tub. It kind of startled me the first time it rubbed against the bottom. It rubbed about three times, and then I think it broke off. I didn`t believe that there were any branches close enough to be hit on that ride. I thought they kept thos trees pretty well trimmed.
  8. From what I have heard, the park is not satisfied with the current state of the show. I heard that Al Weber, the CEO of Paramount Parks was at PKI in early May. I heard that he, along with Craig Ross, the GM of PKI, and the entertainment department at PKI, were not happy with the state of Magic of the Movies. This show has so much potential, but it is executed very poorly. I would much rather have a mahic show, or a musical type show like Graveyard Shift. At least those shows I wouldn`t mind seeing a second time. I do not intend to see Magic of the Movies again. Once was more than enough for me.
  9. The last sign wasn`t concrete. It was probably stucco. The red color of the supporst probably will not end up being the final color of the supports. In fact those supports might end up being covered up by a facade. If those remain exposed supports, they will paint them as they welded those I-beams to the supports to keep them plum while the concrete cures. There probably won`t be any construction progress for about a week. It takes about that long for concrete to cure enough so that work can proceed.
  10. Yes, Coney Island is still in operation. I am a ride operator at the park this season, and have been for the past two seasons as well. While the park is no where near the scope it was in 1971 before it closed, it is still an amusement park. Sunlight Pool actually has been open every season since PKI opened in 1972. Coney has a lot of the classic midway rides that it once had which were moved to PKI and later removed from PKI. For example, Coney has a Super Round Up, a Trabant and a 3-lane slide, all of which used to be located at PKI. Also, Coney has a Scrambler, an old Eli Bridge Ferris Wheel in addition to the small Pepsi Pythoon roller coaster. It is not a big park, and certainly not high on thrill seekers must see destinations. It is a small park, with a main draw from picnics and groups outings. Most of the rides are of the whirl and hurl variety. The Pythoon provides some spots of severe air time, especially on the first drop which is why no one is allowed to ride in the back seat of the train. The ride is a little rough though. While still a shadow of its former self, Coney has survived and continues to thrill a new generation on the banks of the Ohio. For this season, the park has been busy repainting many of the buildings and rides.
  11. They wouldn`t close a ride halfway through the season in order to set up for Winterfest or FearFest. When they transformed the `Tiques last year for Route 666 they were still open on Labor day weekend in September. The rumored closure would most likely involve some sort of construction for a future attraction.
  12. Isn`t there enough stuff in the parks already about Paramount`s movies?
  13. Last I heard the new sign should be in place by the middle of Summer, I would say around mid-July, but I really don`t have a clue. Once the park gets all the permits and zoning variances in place, it shouldn`t take long for the new sign to be built.
  14. The parking lot by Boomerang Bay is the Deep South Lot. However, the parking lot by Top Gun is not near BB or part of the Deep South over flow lot. It is more uncommon to see Deep South Lot full than it is to see cars by Top Gun. I was amazed at the zoo of people that were in BB today. The place empties out quickly once 6 o`clock rolled around.
  15. I do believe the surveyors are a result of erosion control. I believe the creek used to exit the pipe immeditaly past the maintenance road. Now, I think they extended the pipe and put the "gravel" on top of the extension. My guess is that they are trying to control erosion underneath the supports of the second drop. I believe that the "gravel" is the remains of blacktop that they have grinded off of paths in recent years. I would imagine the surveyors are checking something with regards to the land alteration and not a new attraction. Also, last season, the park placed a concret bed for the creek underneatht the station to prevent erosion.
  16. I know that it isn`t a space issue with the map. In a section of the map that appeared in the Cincinnati Enquirer a couple of weeks ago, Kookabura Bay was present. My guess is that it was just a glitch that will probably be fixed on the next round of maps!
  17. Actually, both Arrow and Intamin are not known just for their roller coasters. They are also repsonsible for several flat rides at PKI and other parks. Intamin is responsible for Drop Zone, Congo Falls, VIking Fury, Eiffel Tower, and White Water Canyon. Arrow in addition to Adventure Express, Vortex, and Top Gun is also responsible for Antique Cars, Wild Thornberrys River Adventure and the now defunct Kenton`s Cove Keelboat Canal. Personally though, I think that B&M offers a wonderful, smooth, thrilling and high capacity ride.
  18. There are two Skylines within PKI. Also, there is a Skyline at the exit north of PKI (Kings Mills) and a Skyline at the exit south of Kings Island (Fields Ertel). Additionally, there are 3 LaRosa`s in PKI and there is one at the exit south of the park. Just because there is a restaurant south or north of the park, doesn`t mean that people will leave the park just to go there (although i often leave the park to eat at Skyline, you get free refils that way and can eat in air conditionaing.) Anyway, I don`t think that PKI will be adding a Chipotle. It just doesn`t seem like it would fit in at PKI.
  19. I arrived at the park at a little before 7. The park was rather crowded. I did manage to snag a couple of rides though. Eiffel Tower, Adventure Express, Vortex, Carousel, Son of Beast, Top Gun and an entire ride on The Beast while the fireworks were woing off. The three hours I was there would have been more enjoyably if it wasn`t so crowded, and if I didn`t witness line jumping on Son of Beast and Top Gun. Also, The Beast crew seemed to be moving rather slow tonight. I did however, get to watch the documentary on The Beast. Very well done.
  20. I believe that Congo and Thornberrys are set up like a swimming pool, where they drain the water from the surounding pool area when the temperature dips below freezing. The water they use on these rides is treated. However, WWC uses creek water, I believe and is stored in a resevoir/dammed up creek. Sometimes in the off season, you can see the small pond by WWC emptied.
  21. Expect long lines on Mother`s day. I was there in 2001 when it was also a bring a friend free day. I got to the park at ten. I left by 11:30 because of the unbarable lines.
  22. I`ve tried looking up building permits on line. I`ve also tried looking up zoning permits online. However, most of these applications are not available online, unless I was searching in the wrong spot. Chances are you have to go to the actual building inspector/permit office to view the permits. i do believe that the building and zoning permits are public records though, so any one can view them.
  23. I don`t believe that Blockbuster sells season passes. I do know that Meijer sells passes. I`ve never bought my pass there though. Always get mine at the park during the fall before the next season. The park has offered free parking in the past couple of seasons if you renew your pass then.
  24. The only problem is that the Chippery is not going into the place that the park map toutes as being the location of the new eatery.
  25. I do believe that the concert on July 9th is part of the park`s annual Spirit Song Celebration.
