  1. EnterTRAINment Junction is located right off of I-75 at Tylersville Road in West Chester, OH. It is roughly thirty minutes (depending on traffic) from downtown Cincinnati.
  2. I was there a few weeks back and absolutely loved it. The detail they put into this exhibit was simply amazing. I seem to recall hearing that they spent about $100,000 on the Coney display!
  3. The rumors I had been hearing about a new ride for 2014 were even before I heard the rumors about Coney having some representatives going down to IAAPA to look at new attractions. There are lots of things that can happen and change over a few months. Some things I have heard about and almost came true, but ultimately never materialized at Coney, which is very unfortunate. (Some of the rides that almost turned out to be at Coney would have been enjoyed by many on this site, and likely by others outside of the Cincinnati area too.) Just because they were going down to IAAPA to look at new rides does not mean that they bought a new ride, or that even said ride will debut in 2014 at Coney.
  4. A lot has changed at Coney since 1984. Heck, a lot has changed at Coney since I began working there in 2002! I agree, that Coney is missing one signature attraction to bring people into the park. Right now, the pool is a big draw since it is one of the largest swimming pools around, even with it being built in 1925! It holds 3 million gallons of water! By comparison, I believe that Kings Island`s new wave pool holds 850,000 gallons of water. It is definitely worth a visit. It is a great family park. And I agree with what you said Shar6495. Combined the venues could make for a great weekend. I wonder if some restaurants will pop up on Kellogg. The one restaurant on Kellogg, about a mile east of Coney and Riverbend, AJ`s Roadhouse just recently closed. The closest restaurants to Coney are all the way up on 125/Beechmont Avenue, or crossing the Ohio River and going to Highland Heights, over by NKU.
  5. Exactly what Interpreter said. Riverdowns (the racecino) is owned by Pinnacle Entertainment, which also owns Belterra Casino in Indiana, and that is the reason why they chose to rename Riverdowns to Belterra Park. Riverbend Music Center, as the Interpreter mentioned is owned by the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra. They operate it through a wholly owned subsidiary, Music and Event Managment, Inc. (MEMI). Coney Island is owned by members of the Walker family. Ronald Walker purchased the park in 1991. Although he died unexpectedly in 1997, his wife and son continues to own the park to this day. The president and general manager for Coney has been working in that role at Coney since 1984, so they have a very steady management team in place. I doubt Pinnacle is interested in owning Riverbend or Coney. They have said that in the future they may add a hotel to their property, based on how well the Belterra Park property does. It will be interesting to see if that happens. I would have to imagine that a hotel could prove to be beneficial to Coney as well, as currently there are no hotels in close proximity to Coney.
  6. There will NOT be an underground portion to the station. There will be a gift shop/ride photo on the ground level, below the station. That rendering, while very well done, but likely not entirely accurate to the final construction documents. Things get changed and modified after renderings are done. I speak from experience having generated quite a few building renderings over the years at my jobs.
  7. In order to have a bathroom in it, it would need to be hooked up to plumbing. If it was set up as a port-o-potty style, then the smells inside the trailer would be awful. Construction job trailers by there very nature are transient. They never usually stay on a site longer than six months to a year. Now some may be hooked up to water and plumbing, especially on longer construction projects.
  8. What is your source for this new change with the glasses?
  9. I also believe that they have painted some of the supports for the top of the second hill.
  10. Wow. I can assure you that not all things that are built in the State of Ohio are a matter of public record. And as the Interpreter said, the differences between California and Ohio are pretty dramatic. Not to mention that California has strict guidelines for seismic regulations. And I am positive that more than just foundation plans were filed for Banshee`s station. You have to get a building permit for structures that are going to be occupied with people. Its a matter of the health, safety and welfare of the people using the structure (referred to by most State Architect Registration boards as HSW). All buildings have to meet these HSW requirements and it is those requirements that the building codes are protecting. I have been in the architecture industry working full time now for nearly four full years. I know a little bit about what I speak of.
  11. Time will tell what Coney has in store for 2014. Coney is certainly watching closely what is happening next door at Belterra Park.
  12. No, that is at the between inversions 4 and 5. (At the bottom of what many are calling the pretzel loop).
  13. A visit to Coney is pretty cheap, compared to Kings Island. You can do the rides and the pool for about $25 a person, and that is at the gate without any discount. If you are just doing rides, it will cost you about $12 to $13 to get in. Which is a pretty good deal for a day of fun.
  14. That is just gravel. If I had to guess, they are going to be moving "Clifford" here soon down into the valley, and the gravel is there to help facilitate this move and provide a solid footing for the crane during its move. Especially in light of the rain we got yesterday.
  15. Just thought that I would update this thread given the news that came out yesterday. Starting in May of 2014, River Downs will officially be known as Belterra Park. I certainly am not pleased with the new name. Talk about generic and placeless since there is already Belterra Casino in southern Indiana. It will be interesting to see what kind of crowds this draws, and what impact it has on the traffic coming through Coney next season.
  16. Now now. Lets not start throwing my legal name around. It will not be what you speak of. But it will likely be an intense ride. I personally have never ridden this type of ride before...
  17. He beat me to it! That is a very accurate description! And the same technique is used in columns for building construction too, not just for coaster construction!
  18. Why do you think that? Today is only Tuesday! The lift hill is one of the most complicated sections of the ride. It take a lot longer to put together than other sections of the ride. The park is open another two weekends. They were working last Friday well past 5pm and could be heard hammering on something until close to 7pm.
  19. There is something coming for next year. Rest assured of that. And it will not be just a kiddy ride either.
  20. Really? Looks more like supports to me and not track.
  21. I have NEVER heard that about The Beast. I doubt much work gets done on it today, with the scattered heavy showers. It just poured here at my office on the east side.
  22. Now days, and especially with B&M, the coasters are bolted together, for the most part. There are some section that are welded, but those usually are things along the lines of railings, etc. Back in the day, Arrow coasters used to weld the spine of the track to the support columns.
  23. I really hope that KI will get on the nostalgia band wagon. These rides share one thing in common: they are re-rideable and can be ridden by people young and old alike! That is a key demographic as it means families can ride, and families bring in lots of money for the parks.
  24. I didn`t get to really check out the fireworks. I was busy working. The park was busy. Maybe not as busy as last year, but things seemed to be better prepared this year.
  25. Kings Island can`t get the Rock-O-Plane from Americana. Why? It is now running (and has been since 2007), at Cincinnati`s Coney Island. It received a nice paint job when it was installed at Coney in 2007. And it is not a very high capacity ride, since you are only loading one car at a time, and there are only eight cars on the ride. Not to mention, you have to keep the ride balanced (in terms of weight and what cars you leave empty). It is not exactly a people mover. But it is a very fun ride.
