  1. I'm no expert when it comes to coaster lingo, but if I'm not mistaken it takes two loops to make what is known as a cork screw.
  2. I agree with the post regarding the Crypt... they could EASILY re-theme it to a Mine Shaft of sorts. But also agree that with the complete absence of theming- it would be best served as an outdoor attraction. My guess is that next year when the new coaster opens, RiverTown could be a thing of the past. My guess is that CF has no intentions of building up the Theming of the areas any more than they already are.
  3. i would like to break back into the topic. went last night with the wife for a quick ride blitz in the grown-up areas (left our little NU fan with family)... I have to wonder if CF is going to replace some of the lost theming... Flight Deck was stripped of everything (even the billboard- that I think didn't even have traces of Top Gun on it and was actually a Gillette advertisement was completely gone). the Crypt retained much of it's line theming..... and it seems that some could be added with little or no effort... ie- crypt-like music... closing doors between the "pre-show" area and the rest of the line. International Street could actually play international music instead of the 1980-1990's mix
  4. this was probably sprinkled in the other responses. but- i think that kids under a certain age love trains. period. even though there is nothing particularly "attractful" about the trains these days, she absolutley loves the "choo choo." i think Amazon Falls could receive a new lease on life if they moved it to the RiverTown area... There's not much to the theming of it in its current location... and its almost a mile away from anything else that is "water." I do think that in some locations theming done right is part of the ride experience and disappointingly Paramount only did it once... maybe twice. Tomb Raider had outstanding theming.... it was almost worth it just standing in line. FOF is "ok." Universal Studios theming is almost as good as the rides themselves: Spiderman, Dueling Dragons, the Mummy... About the extent of KI's ride theming is an endless supply of turnstiles (SOB as prime example).
  5. actually the online ticket price is for sale at a reduced rate until sometime in June. So, i think technically they do have a discount for these early operating days.
  6. clean park!?!?!? someone should talk to the yellow shirts about that mud pile between Stunt Track and "the mystery".... they've got mud everywhere. you'd think they're building something.
  7. i haven't read all the posts so don't torch me if this has already been mentioned. But CF won't get rid of BB... that is the CF answer for when the dry park underperforms. No, actually I can't imagine that would ever happen. I haven't been over to the waterpark yet this year.... hasn't been NEAR warm enough yet on any consistent basis- but it usually has a very healthy crowd.
  8. yes, and I'm a little sensitive about it if you don't mind.
  9. nostalgia.... that tag line is only supposed to make all of us schleps feel good about the fact that there was nothing under our tree this year. The "all-forward" Racer was the only "new" thing this year... and I'm gueesing that the decision had nothing to do with nostalgia. As far as mood is concerned. I agree with the music on Intl. Street... but really there's nothing international about it anymore anyway. The first couple of weekends I was REAL impressed with the overall attitude of the ride opps... then last week the apathy of "this is a job and it's going to be a long summer" seemed to leak in.
  10. not sure that they were the failure that you point out. Everyone is entitled to an opinion- here is mine. 1. antique cars- really kind of a dinosaur in today's thrill parks, which KI is. I know they were sacred cows as far as some of this site are concerned- but in reality obsolete. 2. The Bat was a 'prototype' coaster that would have been excellent had it been designed correctly. ufortunately the only way to assess that was to build and fail. 3. Screamin Demon was aging and in the day of Vortex, obsolete. Age and ongoing maintenance had something to do with it being trashed. 4. Kings Mill Flume was just re-designed and still operates. 5. KCKC- no need for 2 log flumes and Paramount Parks wanted to construct a building for Tomb Raider. 6. bad management probably contributed more to their demise than design. Flight Deck is still operable. As far as contribution- I think they served their purpose- but with competition comes better designs and they just got nudged out of the market.
  11. for what its worth, he didn't accumulate nearly 3,000 posts overnight... its taken a few years.
  12. I'm going with Uncle Henry on this one.

    eek! Top gun!

this is an entertaining "tennis match." If I were to listen to the comments made about SOB I would assume that those same comments could have applied to the late "Bat" roller coaster, which met a life-ending fate because of..... drum roll........ maintenance costs. It was HUGELY popular. When it was opened always had lines. Of course it was always closed the following day because of those lines. Though technically it wasn't a record breaker, it was the FIRST of its kind and one heck of a ride. BUT- to value was exceeded by the cost of the "bragging rights" and it was removed. SOB may be a record holder but it design is about 10 quarts shy on creativity and its demise would be no significant loss to the park experience. If the current ridership evaporates to pre-2007 levels and another mishap or maintenance issue occurs- CF will take the path of least resistance, cut the losses and remove. That's a business decision. If you don't agree with that assessment, reference Geauga Lake.
  15. actually i was referring to the......... maybe it was the "date" clock just by the Tower Gardens... or whatever they call it now.
  16. Intrusive is my middle name.... and I would have figured it out if it wouldn't have been for you meddling kids.
  17. if i'm not mistaken, and someone could correct me on this, the actual clock mechanism has been removed.
  18. agreed with the flowers, but didn't they usually leave the actualy clock in place? If that isn't the case I could see why it hasn't returned yet i guess.... it hasn't been real warm here yet. Our company participated in the West Chester Business Expo last year.... I remember setting it up on 5/8/07... being about 91 degrees.... i think we hit a high of 55 yesterday. gotta love ohio weather. Woofer, you can keep the tornado's in your neck of the woods.
  19. why not take "Wings" nack to Kings Island's "golden days" and call it Columbia Palace?
  20. yes, our trips have seriously evolved in recent years to in many instances NEVER LEAVE Nick Universe. Its a small sacrifice, as I love the enjoyment my daughter gets. we may not like everything the Kinzel and company make... but our daughter doesn't care, she just loves the rides- and we get a ton of enjoyment watching her enjoy. like many people I get tired of getting kicked in the teeth with the price of everything so you can imagine how overcome I became when i found out my $2.12 souvenir cup refill was going to be free.... heck, I felt like I had just won the lottery or got a chance to screw big business.... "YEA, take that Cedar Fair!"
  21. and coming up next year for the marketing department to sell is the feeling of nostalgia the parks had when paramount owned them. I still find it humorous, and without historical evidence, that this was the marketing message of 2008. I made my 5th visit to the park over the weekend and nothing strikes me as Golden Year'ish- they even removed the landscaped Eiffel Tower clock. As far as te resort comments- I have always wondered what the original "master plan" circa 1970 for that exit was. wasn't Roy Disney consulting on the project from Disneyland?
  22. this is what your trip reports look like when you're 34. arrived at park at 6pm: Back Yardigans swings, 5 minute wait Blue's Skadoo, 5 minute wait Nick O-round, 5 minute wait Swiper's Sweep, 10 minute wait drink break.... credit card processor broke- FREE DRINKS!!!!!!!!! Racer (to let wife ride)- 10 minute wait Vortex (so i can ride)- 20 minute wait. witnessed a park patron giving a secutiy guard grief..... she should have been tossed on the spot. Swiper's Sweep, walk on Swiper's Sweep, stayed on Swiper's Sweep, stayed on (slipped over to ride Avatar, walk on) Adventura de azul, walk on Go Diego Go, walk on Blue's Skadoo (walk on) swirl ice cream cone ($4.30...... rip off) Fireworks. home (and one seriously tired daughter) It was a good day. park looked good. whatever is replacing "nostalgic" Swan Lake is going to be BIG.... can't wait for that announcement.... CF has a penchant for LARGE coasters. Have been REAL impressed with the staff so far this year.
  23. a few years ago my wife and I decided to go to the top level. it was one of those hot afternoons where rain could come at any minute. As idiots we weren't thinking about that- so with no hesitation we proceeded to the top floor. Half way up, facing The Vortex end of the park I start to wonder if it would rain later in the day and clear some folks out.... We exited the elevator, rounded the corner and........... my first words, OMG get back on the elevator.... rain.... HARD rain was a'comin. We didn't get on that ride back down and ended up being one of the sad saps to leave because of the rain. We got soaked more than WWC and Congo Falls combined.
  24. i feel for those in the marketing department- because just because you put lipstick on the pig doesn't mean that it ceases to be a pig. Nothing wrong with KI at all.... still a tremendous park... i'm just playing with the whol "nostalgia" message. Other than new shows, and being cleaner, oh- and the reversal of The Racer nothing sticks out as historic/nostalgic. for example: Nostalgic: GONE: Swan Lake- what's nostalgic about that? Nostalgic: ARRIVED: new eateries and shops on IS.... nothing to do with original theme. Nostalgic: original landscaping- nothing really strikes me as original. and the list could continue- but I think it's interesting that that this message has become the marketing mantra for the season. Don't get me wrong- love the park. Family and I have been numerous times already with passes- it just strikes me as a lame marketing message for a new season. They are obviously building something BIG-- why not play off that? It's not like some day in July/August when they decide to come out with the details people are all of a suddne going to realize that they are doing more than scouring the bottom of the lake for bodies- or finally removing the Winterfest trees (after 3 seasons).
