Great report. I've stayed and held meetings and conferences there over the last year.... I'm not certain the rocks are fake. The decor is really nice, at least I thought. The rooms all come with essentailly 4 two-day passes to the park and I'm not sure if I am allowed to divuldge the amount that our groups have paid for the rooms when we've used them (though I'm sure they are standard group/conference rates- but I still won't)- but after you figure in a 2-day pass to the park the room actually is VERY reasonable.... granted- I will mentiond that our cost is no where NEAR $494/night.

yep, and ain't no one in the north know how to properly make sweet tea.

Woofer, it must be something about crossing the Mason-Dixon line and heading south. in Atlanta do they use the phrase- "can I carry 'ya' somewhere?" as opposed to something like "do you need a ride somewhere?" I remember trying to order a Coke at a restaurant in Nashville. simply asked for a Coke. the response.... "OK, what kind of Coke do you want?" I'm thinking they meant: diet, cherry, caffeine free, etc... so i respond "just regular." They proceed to ask if I meant "Sprite, Rootbeer, etc..."
-
my $0.05..... i don't want to lock horns in this discussion; but I know it is NOT all the same, but having spent some extended time in Nashville..... it's ALL "Coke" - almost like many people ask for a "Kleenex" as opposed to a tissue even though there is only "Puffs" available.... or can "you go "Xerox" this for me?...." Coke has acheived "generic" term status. In Nashville and many places in the south you have to specify which kind of "Coke" you want.... "Do you want a 7-Up Coke, Dr. Pepper Coke, or Red Coke?"..... uh, I'd like a Coke Coke please.

yes, and "Hootie and the Blowfish" wasn't made up back in the day. a great "oldies" band by the way. And while we're at it.... what exactly is "Metallica" anyway. and I noticed that the name "Hank" wasn't "Hank" at all... "Hawk."
-
I even listen to "that" kind of music and I haven't heard of many of them... Toby Mac and Newsboys, however, have been around longer than a good percentage of the membership of this board have been alive. Never heard of "Hank"- but with a name like that I'm guessing he's no spring chicken. Now, bring in the Steven Curtis Chapman/Michael W Smith and I'll fork over the cash.

Rebel Yell has a pretty steep ascent to the top of the lift hill.... do you think that is "to scale?" -
I have to agree with gamesguy.... this doesn't appear to be much creativity behind the layout... it's much like most CF roller coasters..... tall, lots of hills, no loops; and pretty much "out and back." This appears to be somewhere between Magnum and Millenium Force (which is almost like Magnum on steriods.

Coney to Add Three new Attractions in 2008
Outdoor Man replied to CoastersRZ's topic in Coney Island Central
how ironic would it be if rides that left Coney for KI came back some 36 years later. About "Eagle" for sale.... Mr. Bombay, you've been near the coaster so you could probably tell better than I, but wood that old, not maintained for this long.... would it even be safe if they tried to move such a thing? -
there are laws everywhere that prohibit minors from operating "heavy machinery"- I'm certain that even though we don't think of it this way, a lot of these rides could theoretically fall into that category, then factor in that upwards of 30+ people trusting that a minor knows what they are doing. I think its a good law- but one that will affect prices at the gates in the future.

it actually shows the tower under construction. Any other pictures of that anywhere?

so, you have to go back to 1978 to find an off-season with thsi level of innactivity at the park. looks as if CF is establishing who the favorite child is in Ohio. I guess in part I'm suprised that we didn't at the minimum get a "re-tread" from GL

When was the last time KI did not introduce a new ride of some sort for the year? 2007- Firehawk 2006- Nick Universe (numerous rides) 2005- Italian Job / WinterFest 2004- Boomerang Bay / Nick Parade 2003- Delerium / Scooby Doo and the Haunted Castle 2002- Tomb Raider: the Ride 2001- Nick Central - Wild Thornsberry 2000- Son of Beast 1999- Action Zone- Drop Zone / Face-Off 1998- can't remember 1997- Waterworks expansion 1996- Flight of Fear 1995- Drop Zone / Splat City 1994- Days of Thunder 1993- Top Gun 1992- Phantom Theater 1991- Adventure Express 1990- Flight Commander / Waterworks expansion 1989- Waterworks opens 1988- Amazon Falls 1987- Vortex 1986- Skylab, Zephyr, Dogems 1985- Whitewater Canyon 1984- Smurf's Voyage 1983- Festhaus / Viking Fury 1982- TimberWolf / Hanna Barbera rennovation / Winterfest 1981- The Bat 1980- nothing 1979- The Beast 1978- nothing 1977- Screamin Demon 1976- American Heritage Music Hall 1975- Coney Mall extension 1974- Lion Country Safari 1973- Kenton's Cover Keelboat Canal / Bayern Curve 1972- park opens so, is this year to be a first since 1980?

I'm near positive that someone on this board will correct me but 1932 seems to stick out to me. I know (at least I think) that it was around for one of the large floods in the 1930's; there were stories of the horses being washed up all down the Ohio River. The Carousel building (and platform) could really use a good sandblast and paint job. One of the shops along the north side of International Street used to have historical pictures of the Carousel- but I don't think they have had it for a while.

i apologize for breaching the areas to not tread to. I know the explosivity of political issues which is why I mention both sides. but either way, apologies. -
Oil Today Closed at $101.01
Outdoor Man replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
its absolute B$! In these days I get so sick of seeing reports on Bloomberg that Exxon/Mobile had record years. No kidding?!?!?! I would like to blame this crap on the countries across the pond... but the fact of the matter is these are because oil is traded on the NY exchange and not based on actualy supply/demand. Chavez makes a hallow threat (which he confirmed today that he wasn't serious) and investment individuals in NY scream "OMG- it's a supply shortage!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!- RAISE THE PRICE!" Or I love this excuse- "supply fears." when was the last time we saw a line at the gas pumps since 1981? With all the corporate scandals of 2002-2003 wouldn't you think that someone would be on the hook for "price fixing?" Although I like how in the Primaries the Democrats are quick to blame Republicans (Bush in particular)/Big Business for the prices.... It's a Democratically-controlled Congress.... funny how they're not doing anything either. No wonder they collectively have a 25% approval rating. It's interesting that you never hear that... you only hear of Pres. Bush's 35% approval rating... not the Congressional 25%. -
i've never thought of this but whats to keep an animal from climbing onto the tracks.... and say what would happen if a train zero'd in on one..... just think of meeting up with a medium sized deer in one of The Beasts tunnels... that'll put some hair on your chest.

ryan, you are very talented and I certainly hope you are getting paid well in your daytime job. You are much too creative for a not-for-profit fansite.

i think that if you would actually consider having your wedding at Kings Island I would say your love and devotion to this 500+ acre tract of land is likely reaching an unhealthy level. That being said- Festhaus. I have known of people who had their reception there... actually just one. And it was a key adm. employee many years ago when Mr. Fudd was a wee one. I don't think they are in the habit of renting that out. It was Nov. 1986 or 1987. The college age park security back then had a real power trip over a pre-teen that tried to venture outside a buillding. Almost like they were waiting in the bushes waiting to ambush when the door opened. Prep for Winterfest was in full swing so during daylight it was busy, but by dark it was CREEPY. sorry a bit off-topic. I had forgotten all about that.

they've got a couple of those on the strip in pigeon forge. -
Where is that park at? that is pretty much as excellent ride theming / consistency as you can possibly get. This also begs the question of why can Kings Island / Cedar Point, etc... get the whole theming thing going. Paramount i think hit a homerun with the theming on Tomb Raider and I hope CF doesn't kill it by "turning a bunch of florescent lights on and making it a line." Most, if not all, of Cedar Points lines for their main attractions are just that.... lines. Not much theming whatsoever. Paramount had "streaks of brilliance"- but for the most part were pretty shy as well. FOF has goodl line theming, IJST had "OK" theming, Top Gun was pretty good (when everything worked). Universal Florida makes standing in the 60-minut line part of the experience. Dueling Dragons castle is pretty interesting just being in the line. Most of our lines are just turnstiles (see SOB). it would be nice if the next ride had a line that was just as much themeing as the hype around the ride.
