what's sad is that Paramount management was all set to go head long into the 2006 WinterFest. I wonder had the park not developed instant baggage when CF purchased it if they would have went forward with it (ala SOB accident days after the purchase went public). I agree that the bugs would have been worked out over time. I remember going that year and it was COLD at the start and expensive. I think the paramount management's second attempt would have improved 100-fold from the 2005 edition. I remember speaking with a management person from the park shortly after the decision from sandusky had been made, they remained optomistic that they could persuade CF to reconsider in subsequent years.... but i doubt that many remembered that thought- especially since, and I could be wrong- but a lot of the paramount-years management has turned over.

Woofer, I - for one - will be disappointed (but entertained nonetheless) if next spring we see a torrent of purists flocking to the local Lowes/Home Depot in search of color swatches, then race to match the color to the tower. I would be disappointed, but yet probably not shocked. I like the new color scheme package, which- by the way, started under Paramount.... I think in prep for Winterfest (I could be wrong on that though). When you drove up with the old lighting scheme- if you didn't know what you were looking at, it kind of resembled a UFO at night.... plus this scheme illuminates the entire tower and not just the top.

definitely the parking lot tram.

I can't see Congo Falls being removed for anything other than old age/maintenance. It's really in a spot that won't fit anything else... it sort of "fits" its location. Some retheming could add to the experience, but beyond that I can't see much happening to it. I not sure that removing would add much to their bottom line, as it probably doesn't take much to operate it or maintain it. My 2-cents are that it will out-live Top Gun....

JjAmS... or whatever the name is.... are you actually being "recruited" or is that your perception? WooferBear.... I think we're on the same page here. The unfortunate thing of all of this is pocket experts are talking out of the area of expertise. I'll preface by saying that I am a Christian... but understand that not all see objects through the same glass I do. At the same time, I tend to agree with both sides of this issue. But for me to try to comment on how the other side should react would be like me trying to fix someone's car for them... I have NO expertise and therefore cannot contribute to the conversation. conversely there are a few comments on this particular thread from some saying what the church "should" be... and I would assume that those individuals have never stepped into that particular church or "a" church for that matter... and therefore don't necessarily have an idea of what a church "should be." agreed. this is a topic that really has no place on this board.... other than the information of "a church buys former "surf cincinnati" site. Guaranteed, this subject would not have lasted this long if, say the United Way bought it... or the Marvin Lewis foundation bought it... though if it was bought for vacationing Bengals, I would have issue with that.

i would dare to say that the majority of October weekend day visitors tend to be Season Pass holders. HH may be a different animal. I could see that crowd being about 50-50. I would think that the majority of the money made isn't from admission, but from the $5 cups of ice with a splash of soft drink. my thought is that an upcharge would mean a reduction in income across the board. today, tomorrow and Wednesday (7-1) could be a good indicator of the public's appetite for a late night event that could be "charged" for.... this three-day run is probably a "test-run" / audition for this type of event.

I agree that the enormous statue along I-75 is a bit much, but if it's idol worship you're talking about.... it is a statue of Christ. I know that is a bit of a stretch. I'll just add my 5 cents to this. This is a conversation / argument / debate that neither of you will win. both have strong opinions that aren't likely to be brought together in this setting. In part I almost think that some of the disgust on this site deal with the fact that the parcel of land off of 275 will never be "Surf Cincinnati" again and not the fact that a church owns it.

amazing how it was just June/July of 2006 that Cedar Fair literally rode in on a "white horse." Almost like presidential politics. -
no, it was that pesky fly that sits in on management meetings in the board room atop the Eiffel Tower. He's reliable! As a side note, how much downtime did the flying eagles or Phantom Theater experience prior to their demise?

I actually have the press release in front of me. Dated, 12:01am, Thursday, November 1, 2007 Top Gun and Vortex getting removed. Also GWL will close and be moved to Canada's Wonderland and renamed Bohemoth Lodge.

agreed; and contrary to the thoughts of some, I don't think that he made it a quest to buy GL just so CF could close it. And about the movies- I agree. Tom Cruise is a moron but Top Gun was/is a great movie. Wow, I miss the days when you heard the term "MiG" and immediately though of the Soviet Union. For a great percentage on this site, that was never a country in your lifetime. USSR........ RIP: 1917-1991 -
as we have seen with GL... Cedar Fair likes making drastic decisions under the cover of darkness. If anything is getting removed, they'll probably announce it on November 1 to make sure NO ONE has a last ride..

while we're talking about shows, Busch Gardens Williamsburg, or whatever they call it now had an awesome River Dance show. For an amusement park I was flat-out impressed at the quality, detail, and complexity of it all. So, when are they going to announce ANYTHING for KI in 08 anyway? Are they?

so... the church is only about money- and those who have it should give directly to the poor- offer no sense of outreach whatsoever. Create environments that only attract "dear-old-saints" and see the church slip into irrelevancy in a generation. I'm not saying that some of these edifices are completely ludicrous. What is the church for anyway? Who is the church? and what is it's mission?
-
i agree with shaggy... i could pass on any of the flats that GL had to offer. About the only one that has any allure would be the Ferris Wheel- which I'm not so sure that I think "fits" but would be a nice touch to the KI skyline.

it would be nice to have a BM??? (just kidding- i know you said B&M- stressful afternoon and need to make my own jokes...)

Ash / Shag... I don't think you two are as far off in your conversation as you're reading into it. words on a screen don't do justice of seeing facial expressions and tone of voice. I worked (from a distance) with a real estate company doing research before the purchase and I can say with some degree of certainty that the plans the church has aren't necessarily outlandish- I'd call it uniquely different.... in a good way. While I agree that certain actions cause more deviciness within the Christian community- I also have the thought of "why not?" If you take the exegetical context of Christ turning over the tables in the temple (those who know what exegesis is, continue- if not- I'm not explaining it), it wasn't in the context that we see it. And the views would vary depending on who is interpretting it, but I would liken it to a non-christian viewing their attendance at a church as a lucrative option to benefit them and selling their product through their mis-guided intentions. If a church can afford to have a water slide or wave pool and it brings people in to "use" those facilities that would otherwise have never darkened the doorstep of a church and they meet God through that affiliation.... I say have TWO waterslides, and a mocha latte on the side.
