We are nearing the Autumn season. Anyone know where I can find some good, dried, structural timber firewood?

i think you need to take it to them. I think CF would have an open ear. They don't have a museum of sorts, but the do have a well-documented history of Cedar Point available. Kings Island has a very long history dating back to Coney Island in the early 20th century... and what do you know- you've started a Coney Island site as well. There are a TON of things on this site that many museums don't have. You've had great communication with Jeff, then Maureen, and I assume you will with the new guy in there.

BoddaH- you and Dane have considerable "pull" with the marketing function for your age. The marketing tends to listen or at least entertain your input... I know spousees of a handful of people on the inside and have heard your names in conversation (positive, mind you) about different events happening... plus Cox Publishing features this site in their papers all over Ohio. You were probably aware of this, but management-types out of state were crawling all over the message boards the minute Winterfest in 2005 to see what the opinions were. Suggestion- You KIC site has probably more material (pictures, memorabilia, and just plain raw information) for a "museum" of sorts than most museums ever have in a lifetime. As an entrepreneur you need to bump heads with Kings Island marketing management and "business plan" a "Kings Island history museum." I would pay an upcharge to go through it.

fans of SOB are probably very lucky that Cedar Fair has a penchant for record breaking rides... coasters in particular, otherwise under Paramount Parks management- the life support plug might have been pulled after last summer. Either way- read it however you want- from this point SOB will likely be on a pretty short leash. CF is looking for private equity buyers... buyers who probably wouldn't been too impressed by funneling $$'s down a bottomless hole... and the popularity / ridership of a problem prone coaster- known to cause injury will not rebound easily let alone with repeated down time. I will place my bets on an eventual Gravestone at FearFest someday with the acronym "S.O.B." on it. Maybe not this year, maybe not next.... but soon it will join the likes of "The Bat," and "King Cobra." I think it's pretty catchy... perhaps some marketing potential: RIP-SOB.

yes. it would get attention for a few weeks. then only the people who actually know who John Miller is/was would fill the lines.

A Step Back in Time at KICentral
Outdoor Man replied to Dane's topic in Kings Island Central Newsroom
ugh. I hate this site. I had work to do and instead spent an hour on the history pictures. What "big" announcement are you all speaking of? -
that was in the Cincy Enquirer about a year ago (or so) when he (Couch) announced the park would never reopen- that the coaster, carousel, and flume would stay..... - why, I'm not sure. I'm certain that wood for the coaster has not been kept up as it should (it' been closed for 3 years). My thought is Kings Island (Cedar Fair) would have little interest in a coaster like that, even for nostalgia purposes. Spend a few million on a new coaster that within weeks would have a shorter walk up line than The Racer's.

i knew the community of this board wouldn't fail me. I told our group that I knew "exactly" where to find what we were looking for.

actually you can get historically archived pages from the internet from as far back as 1996. I can't remember the website- i always access it from going to Google and typing "internet archive." Whatever Surf Cincinnati's website was likely has been archived.
-
uh... website address, not physical address. We already had that.
-
come on- surely someone knows this....
-
definitely the elevators on the Eiffel Tower. i mean, really- what kind of thrill are you going to get out of a elevator moving that slow.

I am participating in a group performing a feasibility study on a 20 acre tract along north I-275, more commonly known as the former Surf Cincinnati Waterpark. Does anyone know what Surf Cincinnati's old website address was?

SOB was a terrible design. It's nothing but height and circles. In the day and age of Roller Coaster Tycoon they should have had a contest with 5th graders and came up with a kick-butt design. Heck, with the most recent versions you can tell what will cause the patrons to black-out and vomet.... I tend to agree with WooferAtl that removing the loop was just the beginning of the removal process.. but I think CF has pitched too much into it at this stage to turn it to firewood for a bit yet.

what is the roster of bands this year?

I say ditch the "international" facades on the buildings since they haven't followed an "international" theme in years. Then theme the street to the music being played- whatever that is.... on a side note- am glad to see the characters working atop the Festhaus again.

for some of these attractions they KNOW are going to have 4+ hour waits- they should outfit the lines with RESTROOMS!!!!!!!!!!!!! Hot day at the park, beverage after beverage... I can't go much past 2 hours without a pit stop.

The Changing Face of the Island.
Outdoor Man replied to King Maple The Tree King's topic in Coming Attractions
now in the landscaping defense... take the trees on International Street, for instance. It doesn't look as good as it did in the 80's because these trees are some 25 years older. After some years they tend to look "overgrown" and maybe they are. Some day they'll become too large and will need to be removed and smaller/younger trees will be planted. Home landscaping is the same. That job you pay thousands for in year 1 tend to look shabby come year #5. -
my wife and I went yesterday... and I was VERY entertained at some guests. btw, what was the deal with all the face paint yesterday anyway? I was entertained by all the boyfriend / girlfriend combinations where routinely the guy had a set of iPod earphones in while the girlfriend talked on her cell phone. NOW, that's a DATE...... And I got to see all the new "vogue" piercings. There are a lot of gentlemen that better hope that Starbucks is hiring professions- because not too many professional environments dig those earrings that enlarge the hole. all in all, an entertaining day.... though I didn't get to witness much of what was discussed above, though it was much more packed than we were expecting.

someone may have asked- i didn't see it, but what is going to happen with "Tower Gardens/Paramount Story"??? and debating which fighter jets are the "correct" ones for TG.... oh my- I think we all need more challenging jobs to take up more of our time.
-
I was a bit suprised to see that CF did not do any painting to TG. It has been a few years since that twisted steel has seen any TLC. I would be willing to be that a re-theme is in the works though. I'd be willing to bet that the Top Gun theme (or at least name) will go away in time for opening day 2008. Moving the coaster elsewhere really isn't an option because it was manufactured to fit that specific terrain. I like the idea of a re-theme to "The Bat." get all the old theming gear out... and it is in the woods, so the area works too. Or go with the original "Thunder Road".... not sure I can visualize the theming there. The whole "downtonw KI" idea is intriguing. But my thought is that Kings Island is not enough of a "vacation destination" to support such an investment.

Kings Island Tempts Taste Buds in 2007
Outdoor Man replied to Reclaimer's topic in Kings Island Central Newsroom
and I hope this doesn't sound off.... but once a place serves chinese food, it is next to impossible to get the smell out. I agree with the thought of "why is a chinese place going in an Oktoberfest area?" Why don't they just turn it into a food court? That poor place used to be so much more than it has become. Was hoping that CF would return some of the good shows that used to be there. I remember back in the late 80's.. the shows there were a pretty big deal. One show, I think called "Fire and Ice" had national recognition. And some of the Christmas shows were absolute professional quality.
