  1. Quarterly profit up 60% and increased attendance. Although there is still a lot of ground to cimb. StarTelegram RTT News BizJournals And just because I enjoy their unbiased attitude towards Six Washington City Paper
  2. Orlando Sentinel Tampabays 10 Cypress Gardens to close once again, this time for 4 months. Although from the sounds of the news I wonder if they will reopen. If and when the reopen it will be as a waterpark only.
  3. Avatar, staying around Tampa Bay can be a little tricky especially if looking to stay on the beach. My recomendation is to stay in Clearwater or St. Pete. You are about 30 minutes away from Busch Gardens if you stay in Clearwater. The beaches are amazing also in Clearwater. Heres a great site to help with planning, Floridas Beach. Also not knowing your price range, but you may want to consider the Legendary Don CeSar or its sister property The Beach House Suites. But there are plenty of great loding options at a more economical price as well. I have heard good things about these 2 as well, Sheraton Sand Key and the Hilton Clearwater Resort. Much better pricing as well when comparing to the Don Cesar, especially if you book closer to your stay. Did I mention Clearwater is gorgeous? The white beaches and being on the gulf are what make it for me and no better place to sit watching a sun set and siping a Bombbay... I dont think many of the KIC members have discovered the Bombbay Saphire, so I would be careful who you offer your services too Avatar because the return may not be what your looking for.
  4. Well its Friday and theres all kinds of action at the site today. I think the whole Friday thing may have only been during Haunt and the seasson.
  5. Avatar I must agree with you on Disney's strategy of delaying or canceling new rides and instalations. To this day I am still shocked Expedition Everest was even installed. Disney hasn't added a major attraction to Magic Kingdom in a long time. Honestly can you count the Pirates upgrade, I wasn't that impressed with the additions. Disney has always relied on its name to pull the majority of its guests in, but now they need to really convince people to spend their money, Disney is not cheap. They are not convincing many folks at all right now. The only reasson I am considering a Disney vacation right now is because prices are going down and my daughter loves Mickey Mouse. If not for her, we would have no reasson to go to Disney. Cedar Fair stock currently sits only $3 less than Disney stock.
  6. Looks like yesterday once they started the drop support they had to finish before going home. Looks like the support is getting tightend up and aligned today. Thats what I would assume the guy in the basket is doing. Unless they start lifting track soon I wouldnt expect the first drop to go in today.
  7. I would imagine KI will lead the pack next year seeing as it will have DB and Wonderland had Behemoth this year. Also Michicgans Adventure had a record breaking year attendance wise this year. The Northern region is very strong for CF and should continue to be next year as well.
  8. Yes Grizzly River Rampage and the former park managment building were the only remaining signs that a park existed, but with the expansion of the Opryland Hotel they have leveled these remains. The Opry Plaza still exists which leads to the Roy Acuf theater. Oddly this has not changed since the park closed. Grizzly River Rampage was a great ride, much faster than most rapid rides around today and the tunnels/caves were excelent, especially with the Bear sound effects. Very cool ride. The pumps and other hardware from the ride ended up at SFKK as part of the Penguine Blizzard River. The rafts are now in opperation at Six Flags Over Texas I believe. Also the park was home to Chaos which was the only Vekoma Illusion coaster in the US. Very awesome ride, that rotted away at Old Indiana along with many of the other rides. Why the wiki article has some interesting points about the closing of Opry Land by Gaylord, there is one key piece of info left out. Gaylord no longer wanted to be in the theme park business. As a matter of fact when the old managment steped down at Gaylord during restructuring the new management found no reasson for the closure of Opryland. "In 2004, Gaylord Entertainment made a statement in a Tennessean article that claimed current company executives had found no evidence that former decision-makers even had a business plan for Opryland USA theme park, let alone any strategic analysis that led to closing it, and that no compelling reasons had been found for the park's closure. Most of the Opryland-era executives left Gaylord Entertainment early in the decade when the company restructured itself. The Tennessean is a dominant daily newspaper in Nashville, Tennessee. ... Nashville tourism has never recovered from the closure of Opryland and Shoprymills does not bring anywhere near the tourism it was thought to. Here is some classic footage of Opryland rides, but also the Grizzly River Rampage
  9. I would imagine that once they start placing the remaining track on the drop they will not be able to stop until finished. There is only one support that holds the majority of the drop track so it will likely need to be braced the entire time they are erecting the track. Should be very similar as to when they put up the giant lift hill support.
  10. Q3 Profit jumped 69% Analyst predict full year revenue to be $1 Billion. CNN Money Forbes
  11. No they partnered with Mills Corp to build the mall and then they licensed the Opry name for the mall. So it is still a partnership. Make a beautiful park in to a parking lot, thanks Gaylord and thanks Six for letting most of the rides rot...
  12. Well previously the real estate housed shopping and entertainment. Fantasy Harbor had numerous hotels and outlet shops and it went under and Wacama Pottery was there as well, which met the same fate. As I said in the very begining it is a horrible location and fewer folks arrive to Myrtle Beach that route anymore. More and more visitors are staying North or South and staying away fom downtown. Honestly wouldnt mind seeing Gaylord come in and turn it in to another one of their malls. Seeing as the one in Nashville is doing so well, much better use of the land than Opryland was. Notice my sarcasm, I have issues with Gaylord.
  13. Cedar Fair Positive news for Cedar Fair Today... Overview... NINE-MONTH NET REVENUES INCREASE TO $877 MILLION, ON 2% ATTENDANCE GAIN ADJUSTED EBITDA INCREASES TO $335 MILLION FOR THE NINE MONTH PERIOD REAFFIRMS 2008 FULL-YEAR GUIDANCE
  14. That area is going to look completely different in front of The Beast. Can already see big changes.
  15. I heard it was actually a permenent Dippin Dots Stand, not just a cart anymore.
  16. You forgot to mention the removal of Flight Deck also and Vortex didn't start sinking until it was first mentioned Magnum XL was sinking.
  17. I would agree Tige. If your going to have DB open why not have some other attractions in the area open like Beast, Vortex, BLSC, and also the train for great pictures. I could see them roping off areas like Action Zone to keep the guests mainly around DB and surrounding areas. Now back the The Beast entrance, it will be on display at the preview also.
  18. Research is pointing towards positive growth for the World Theme Park Market and by 2012 it is expected $28.7 Billion. Currently the US market makes up over 50% of the market but emerging markets are expected to offer the highest growth potentials. Very interesting article and research, shows a good sign for the industry as a whole. Focus on Travel News
