Universal Studious Orlando: Attendance fell 5%
Avatar replied to Avatar's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Captain – I hear ya there, in my business gas is killing us and the need to purchase a new van, had me second guessing our upcoming fall trip. I am glad we decided to stay at the Disney Value Resort or I would haft to cut back the trip further. We trimmed it from 14 nights to eight night and cut out some of the other Orlando destinations that we have wanted to do. So we will do Disney this year and focus on the other Orlando parks over the next couple years, plus Miss Rae is getting older and will probably enjoy those other parks more so then. So captain when are you and the Misses going this year? It looks like they are making some changes to their Halloween Event, to be even better. -
Orlandosentinel.com I think this is short term for them this year, as the economy is having an impact every where here in the US, next spring Universal Studious Orlando is opening a one of a kind highly themed "Hollywood Rip, Ride, Rockit Roller coaster". that should help bring in some curious visitors while at the same time trying to capitalize on the closing of Disney’s Pleasure Island guests by offering deep gate discounts to attract those guests later this year. In 2010 the World of Wizarding of Harry Potter will open and will be a major draw for them as many regular Orlando visitors are planning visits now. Families really like highly theme attractions and Orlando knows it. WOW - Themed Attractions; it practically sells itself.

At least it's not $4 a gallon ... yet :)

Well that has all but certainly happened, lets just hope it doesn’t drop further to the even lower congress approval rating. -
…and I thought I would never see the day I could clue Interpreter in,; Interpreter it’s called Disney’s Blizzard Beach Water Park. It’s not my favorite but the thrill seekers tend to like it better than Disney’s Typhoon Lagoon. I like heavy themes and both offer it but Typhoon is more relaxing and tropical. I think in Ronny’s report he describes CP has an old Board Walk type feel to it and peeks my attraction in going as riding the super thrill coasters.
-
Ronny excellent report as usual. I always appreciate that you take an ordinary blah day trip report and add extra emotions of how things where going, who was doing what that really makes your reports fun to read. I’m like you I like to get away for a bit and take pictures or to watch the park at work. Are you trying to get a new long thread rumor started? – Be Careful I am glad you have been able to get so much done over your break this summer and I see you soon.

Just for the record KIBeast was taking about riding the Avatar ride at Kings Island. Just do not want anyone to get the wrong idea with the way this thread was going.

Well I guess I’m a loser too and I wanted it to be that way. The funning thing is I don’t feel like a loser but more of winner being at the park by myself and not worrying about anybody but myself for once. standbyme KIFan73 Avatar

Disney Raises Ticket Prices...
Avatar replied to RailRider's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
RailRider – I don’t know how to break this to you but to just come out and say it. Universal Studious is raising thier ticket prices tomorrow as well and is believed to follow tradition of always charging $1 more to park than Disney charges, so parking is expected to go up too. The reason is for the new coaster and the new Harry Potter area. sorry to be the one to tell you. -
Wow – nice report you can tell your enjoying your trip as the excitement in your words really jump out. I can not wait till we get to see your pictures. Well the KICentral members have been getting around this year for sure!

How Old Were You When You First Visited Kings Island?
Avatar replied to LongliveKingsCobra's topic in KI Polls
Well I have been going to Kings Island since 1972; I was almost 8 years old. There is in no way that I could only pick one favorite memory, because each and every great memory comes with a wonderful story and I would not trade one for the other. It would take me days to type every great memory with a related story to go with it. Besides I don’t think anyone would want to read a post that long Well I’ll start with where it all began: Sometime in the summer of 1972, My Grandfather who was a teamster truck driver and drove a route daily past Kings Island. As he drove by everyday he watched the progress and the birth of Kings Island from the interstate, so he decided to take the whole family including his wife 2 daughters, his son and 6 grand children at that time. This was an extremely rare occasion. Well I being from Indianapolis and my house sat almost right next to the Indianapolis 500 3rd turn, I had no idea what to expect so arriving at Kings Island was like walking into another world. I’ll try to keep to my grandfather, he was what you would say an old fart!! He loved his beer and spent little time with his family but loved us dearly. So he paid for all us to get in, everyone took pictures and we all marveled at the International Street and the spectacular fountain under the Eiffel Tower (keeping in mind this was in 1972). He quickly gave all the parents some money and sent us all on our way, because his first stop was going to be the Oktoberfest Der Alte Deutsche Bier Garten to belly up and swap stories with the other old farts. After a short while we meet back up with him and we were so excited and were telling him stories about what we had been doing earlier in the day at the park, (next is one of the great memories) I never seen that man smile and have such a proud look on his face, he had that look like he was going to get the grandparent of the year award. I’ll never forget it in all my life, I can still see it as if he was sitting right her next to me now. He decided to take a ride with us, and since we were right next to the Swiss Sky Ride that went across the park that’s where we were going, plus he could ride right back!! I was in the same Swiss Sky Rider car as he was, and when we got to the higher part and at one of switch poles he started to sweat and gripping the hand rails real tight. We didn’t know if it was the alcohol so we asked him if he was ok and he answered with (another great memory) the following “I’m so scared and my ass is so tight that I couldn’t sh*t a BB right now if I wanted!!!!” Well me being almost eight years old, and hearing him say that was pretty big stuff and very funny. Needless to say he didn’t ride back but instead opted to walk all the way back to the Der Alte Deutsche Bier Garten and the rest of us went on with the rest of our day. -
Disney Raises Ticket Prices...
Avatar replied to RailRider's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
RailRaider – in a few years from now your daughter is not going to stand for Universals thrill rides but rather be looking forward to visiting with princes and other characters. So you may want to look ahead and start accepting your fait. Yes the prices went up as Disney is still doing well with international visitors and with high resort occupancy rates. We go in the off season and save big. In fact on our average day cost per person staying on Disney Site including a Value Room, Transpiration to all Disney locations, Park Ticket, meals including 1 table service meal (waiter service) 1 counter service meal and 1 snack, cost us $75.00 per person per day. I just saying you can get all that for the same price of a one day park ticket. Just got to look for the deals, they are there. BTW – if/when the next time you and your family go let me know I can give you some great tips on Disney World including how to get some of those must do dinning choices like Cinderella’s Royal Table in the castle. I want to see those pictures. -
Martha didn’t go on vacation for insider information but for perjury.

Last Day to Purchase KIC Day Tickets is TODAY!
Avatar replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Kings Island Central Newsroom
To maximize my KICentral event enjoyment, neither my wife nor daughter will be going over with me. I just want to hang and meet fellow members from here and not worry about them feeling left out. Besides like I said I have to drive the cargo van over so only two seats are in it so everyone can be buckled in. Well there is a Gold Star and a UDF right next to my stop in Cincinnati, bad news is that I have never seen Gold Star open at that time but the good news the UDF is always open. Well back when I went to Perry Meridian my first few years I had longer hair too. (well see) Thanks Captain for the confidence and I would feel comfortable with you and you wife too. Are you guys coming? -

That’s why I have not offered earlier, I’m a bit uneasy about putting myself in that scenario, but you can tell he really wants to go so there it is. I just hope a certain picture from the Kinza Tribe down time does not reappear . That would stop the offer for sure. -

Angrybeaver – where about do you live in Perry Township? I will be going to the event too and live closer to town but lived in Hill Valley for many years. I may be able to take you, under some conditions; Your parents approve verbally before hand. I will make a delivery in the Cincinnati area (star tower) before going to the park so leaving Indy will be around 5-530AM, so we would be in a new cargo van because of the delivery. (This pays for the gas to go over) From your last photo trip report I could not help but notice you need a haircut so that would need to happen before hand. If interested or would like to discuss any of the conditions PM me. -
darwyn – glad you finally got the opportunity to ride Avatar and to enjoy it, I too have special emotions with Avatar the ride too. Also you said “it would be odd for his dad to like the hot guy“ well it was the fairly odd coaster.
-
LOL – Good going Tomkatt7 showing you playful side, I’m sure it will be a fun topic for your family to discuss in future years to come. BTW I enjoyed your report.

Wow very uneventful report but thanks!

XGatorHead 8904 – True not much of a discount for day visits patrons on vacation at Disney World unless they visit the parks for more than 3 days during their stay and in fact it is strongly rumored that on Sunday August 3 Disney will increases their Park tickets. We always go in September too, this year from Sept 27 – Oct 5 We always go then because we get the Disney Dinning Plan (DDP) at no charge for going during the low crowd off season (thank goodness for year round school schedule) we just haft to stay on site. We get the value resort for $82.00 a night but the $148.00 DDP is free. Now back on topic, I just wished KI had a smaller cup at a smaller price as a family we don’t normally drink a full cup below half way.

I’m sure many will post pictures and their first hand account of the day’s activities. I missed the high wire show on the 4th of July and had to read the reports from other, I will just say that was hard. There is no way I’m missing this one, plus the chance to meet many other members is a huge plus. I keep thinking 10 years from now there will be a 1000 people who will claim to have been at the 2008 construction tour of the 2009 coaster, but I will have the joy of knowing I was there with pictures to back it up.
