  1. There is not going to be a ride op on top of the tower or anywhere inside the tower while it is operating. To think so is just plain silly. I have 20 reasons in my head as to why it will never happen. If there is an elevator inside, it will be for maintenance use only. If there is a position at the top of the tower, how is that person going to be rotated out for breaks and shift changes? Is the ride going to be shut down for 20 minutes every hour while they ride the elevator up and down? For you Eiffel Tower people, the Eiffel Tower was built as an observation tower and only that. Its only purpose is to have people ride up and down its elevators to enjoy the sights. Thats why it is safe for ride ops to be on the Eiffel Tower and not WindSeeker. This is all common sense people. I don't know why it's still being discussed.
  2. ^That's a joke right? There may have been rumors of a ride op at the top of the tower, but actually think about it for a second. There is no chance they are going to staff a position on top of a 300 ft tower. If there is an elevator inside, it will be for maintenance use only.
  3. I'm working Flight of Fear. Now with my processing, I was planning on bringing all the paperwork, my state ID, my social security card, and my birth certificate. Am I missing anything? Sounds like you have everything you need. I'll have to pick up a shift or two with ya this year at FoF. I've always wanted to work that ride. It's one of the few I haven't gotten around to yet.
  4. You need to have all your paperwork finished and ready to turn in when you go to your scheduled processing time. And make sure you have all the required identification with you. I was confused my first year and didn't bring enough ID. Thats a problem when you live in Indianapolis. EDIT: What ride are you working this year?
  5. I agree with DiamondbackCMH. Its not the end of the world that the ERT have changed. The park wants to showcase its new ride and why should we say its a horrible idea. The majority of Gold Pass members will jump at the chance to ride the brand new really tall spinny ride. Good for the park for trying to make more money to better the park. If you people are really going to live and die on what rides are open for a half hour everyday, then you really need to take a step back and re-evaluate your priorities. You have Kings Island. Just enjoy what you have while you still have it. Stop complaining about every single thing you find wrong and just enjoy the next summer at your favorite park. I know thats what I'll be doing.
  6. If you look at the satellite image on page 6, you will see that the red line comes together on the side of the bathrooms. I believe right were the laser tag dome used to be. At least I think thats what it was. Looks big enough to fit a path to me. I would love to see an expansion out that way. Especially if it connected x-base and the back end of Coney Mall. They might need to re-locate a few maintenance buildings, but compared to adding an area that large, it wouldn't be that big of an expense. EDIT: Page reference fixed
  7. Are you crazy about Congo?

  8. That was me. I'm glad it was useful to you. I don't know much about the programming of apps. I just did the busy work of entering all the info into the app. I know a guy that is very good and I will bring up the idea of a Kings Island app.
  9. The reason it ascends slowly for the first half of the tower is to put less wear and tear on the motors. The magnets repel motion no matter what the direction the chair ring is moving. The faster it moves, the harder the magnets push. That is why it speeds up as soon as it clears the magnets. It just so happens that the chair ring stops rotating close to that spot. The speed has nothing to do with the rotation.
  10. Magnets will just bring the chair ring to a slow drop. There are very large pneumatics (for lack of a better word) that bring the chair ring to its final stop. If you get a chance next time you are in the park, watch the start of the cycle. You can see the giant steel rods sticking out of the ground with rubber on top. I know that's a horrible description, but if you get a chance to watch it, you will see what I'm talking about.
  11. I have personally discovered the answer to this question....Yes you can hit the tunnel. It was not a fun experience and I recommend keeping your arms in the car. I wasn't hurt enough to require attention by first aid, but it still hurt a lot and there is still the potential to do a lot of damage to yourself if you hit it right.
  12. I assume the rails are greased periodically. They are probably there to keep the guests grease free when this is done. Another possibility is to keep shrapnel down if one were to fall apart. It happens occasionally.
  13. It would be cool if they could install something like this.
  14. yeah i hear others say they could get the test seat down but not fit on the ride itself. for me the test seat on Diamondback was a no go but i got on the actual ride with 2 clicks. that is what's confusing for me. i know intimidator was 3 clicks for sure. but somehow i've rode Diamondback 8 times and every time i rode with 2 clicks. I can assure you that you have never ridden with two clicks. The computer monitors every single restraint and the train will not dispatch unless every one has at least three clicks.
  15. Would that be testing, or would you call that sitting on the lift hill. On the subject of the phone box. If you lost your phone on Diamondback, I can guarantee that your phone is not in the box. All those phones are unclaimed from previous years. I can't even begin to tell you how many people tell me that they found their phone in the box and they want it out. Kings Island thought of that before they built it.
  16. It seems like this year there aren't as many well known bands. I remember reading the list last year and at least recognizing all of the bands. This year I haven't even heard of most of them. I might go Friday night to hear Casting Crowns, but that's the only group I'm remotely anxious to see. Maybe Family Force 5 and Third Day too. I just saw Toby Mac last month so I have no need to see him again. Overall I'm kind of disappointed with the list this year.
  17. Just remember that the ERT does not start until Friday, April 30th. I know you said June in your original post, but I'm just adding this to make sure it is known. I would hate to have someone leave their home early just to find out that its not going to early open that day.
  18. I will add to the contacts are better side. I wear my contacts all the time. I've had no problems on any roller coaster I've ever ridden. That being said, I have worn my glasses on many rides at Kings Island and have never had a problem there either. I choose contacts for convenience and not having to worry about losing them, but either works for me.
  19. I used to be terrified of anything buzzing around me. One of my first memories is of being attacked by a swarm of wasps. I was too young to know what a wasp's nest was, and I poked it. To be completely honest, last year was probably the first time I've ever not been hesitant around bees. As many know, they swarm around trash cans. As a Diamondback ride op, I had to change these trash cans every night. I would just tell my self to get over it and do your job, and after a few times I wasn't even worried about it anymore. Now I'm to the point where they can fly all around me and not bother me. i guess you can say that having all the bees at KI has cured my fear of bees.
  20. Just in case anyone is interested, the third and final train is being loaded into the storage shed on Diamondback. You can see some of it on the webcam right now. The season is almost here. 32 Days!!!
  21. ^I like Larken's for a different reason. Kings Island would consider spending thousands of dollars to design and build the splashdown just for the sake of keeping people from thinking that it was a hyper coaster.
  22. If you are an employee, you can park in the employee lot even when you aren't working that day.
  23. I know that the employee ID card can be used at any Cedar Fair park. I do not know about the Gold Pass perks because I've never tried to use them. The specified entrance is the main entrance. Even if you want to stay and ride after your shift, you have to leave through the employee exit and enter as a guest.
  24. I imagine it would be like pushing a car in neutral if not easier. Coasters are designed to minimize friction throughout the ride. Same as a car. No friction means no difficulty pushing.
  25. So by your logic, every log flume in the world should be counted as a roller coaster? STR has two drops and runs through a water trough the rest of the ride. Sounds like a log flume to me.
