  1. Just in case anyone was keeping score... We are almost to a fourth of the way to catching up with the Rumor coaster for 2009 thread. Keep on typin' away... EDIT: If counting posts we are 23.4% just in case anyone wanted a techincal read-out
  2. Wait a minute! I've got it! what if KI puts in a Intamin mega-lite with the Walk of fame as part of the ride somewhat. The exterior is the walk of fame and have an entrance to the ride within the walk of fame! It could be called Kings Island: The Experience... wait, thats waaaay to "Paramount"ish, nevermind that name. Although it would make for a high-flying acronym. That's FC with a terrible attempt at humor
  3. Haha no not exactly. I am just saying that I think the water would offer a unique setting for part of a coaster. I understand the whole mosquito argument but as long as the water does not remain stagnant by way of 1 or 2 small fountains I feel that that problem can dealt with. The aforementioned water features were not equipped with fountains, I do not believe. If faced with the choice between the coaster and the lake, I would take the coaster in a heartbeat. However, I think that a nice dive into a low, water-hugging turn would be a great element for a small airtime coaster.
  4. Anyone else out there think that a nice little Intamin Mega-lite would go great there, over the sidewalk, and a couple nice turns over the water? Get a German theme going and there's another attraction in Oktoberfest! Make sure the water is kept though. I dont want to see another water feature be drained forever.
  5. Millennium Force's has a slightly different setup than i believe will be used on this coaster. MF's cable lift has a catch-car which slides under the train while it's inside the station and drags the train up the hill. If you watch at the beginning of the POV video, you can see the friction wheels spinning and propelling the train forward to latch onto the chain lift. In order for the train to exit the station, the track in the station will also be equipped with friction wheels. Hope that clarifies a few things. However, I can in no way verify the validity of this. I am just going on the review of previous coasters and some of the info provided about this coaster. (they did say that only the lift hill supports would be yellow though so...) EDIT: Wow lots of posts in a short time! wasn't ready for that. Sorry for repeating you RZ.
  6. This is according to wikipedia, This could be what is meant by the splashdown (but you know it could also be there because it of the photogeneity of the feature.) haha
  7. I'm going to say brakes. Can we say they have completed everything back to the brakes now? If so I feel we deserve a new camera aimed right down the clearing toward the hammerhead. Don't remove the other one though because we want to see that too!! Show it all! Heck just let us bring in lawn chairs and watch this thing go up! -FC now heading to wal-mart for a lawn chair
  8. I cannot say that I have enjoyed Mantis in the least bit. The G's while standing are pretty intense which makes for a really uncomfortable ride. However, I am unable to make a choice between which i like most/hate least due to my lack of ever riding KC. I have never been a fan of stand-ups and am glad to see that production of this style of coaster has ended.
  9. Easy big guy. You probably shouldn't bring up the correct names of words tossed around in "the biz". See the footers/footings debate. Boy that was a fun one in which nothing of any significance was determined. I think it should just be called "The part of the coaster that changes the direction of the train by 180 degrees" however I don't think that is as catchy as hammerhead. I don't think you are going to change many people's minds with this argument, but Godspeed in your quest.
  10. ^ check again. Looks as if there is something rising from the ground..... This is gonna be a monster of a coaster!
  11. Anyone else wondering when the first update is going to come from Helbig and his crew? I would really like to hear some information relating to the progression of the ride. I don't remember exactly how often the blog was updated for Maverick so I don't really know what kind of time period we can expect between posts. With all the progress made recently on the supports, I would hope to see a new update soon.
  12. That has been a recurring theme for Six Flags parks recently. Not many proven to be very profitable for the company. Living near Kentucky Kingdom, I have witnessed the slow decent(but getting faster) of an amusement park. Its a sad thing to watch.
  13. The track is all made. It is just being stored elsewhere to prevent it from cluttering the site. I believe I saw a considerable amount of track behind Firehawk the last time I was at the park.
  14. I would say they probably heard the announcement for the Country Music show at the Festhaus that mentions that there would be music by Carrie Underwood sung by park entertainers.
  15. After watching the construction and getting more and more excited for next year, I started thinking about what the ride experience as a whole would be like. To me this include the time that you walk under the sign and into line. After a short time I realized that the park hasn't provided us with any conceptual art that showcases the station. What should we expect from the park as far as themeing the queue and the station?
  16. Well, if it was not displayed that boomerang bay was closed and it was expected to be open, and the park closed before the scheduled closing time, then they might have had a case for this complaint. But, because I highly doubt that either of the two things happened, I would have to say you get what you pay for on that day. If they were wanting to see a fireworks show, stay at the park until 11, and go to boomerang bay, then they should have picked a better day to go. For all I know that's the way the park has run for 30+ years and I don't see them changing it anytime soon. They have to remember that its just a business that is trying to maximize profits and thats the best way to do so.
  17. Weird Al, in 2004 I think it was at least. Pretty amazing concert, he is a great entertainer
  18. The track is there, its just kinda hard to see because its in the shadow and the track is that dark gray/black color. EDIT: just look to the back right of the station, or do you mean inside the station...
  19. Hmmm... Let's look through KICentral's handy dandy history feature. That picture can give you a general idea. Thanks, I couldn't find that anywhere in the regular photos! I like the new sign CF has put up. Clean and not ornate. I think it would have been pretty neat if it could have been done with some kind of flowers or such. For some reason i remember there being something like that in front of the railing, but nevertheless i do like the new decorations that I've seen so far.
  20. Probably the many times I visited KI when I was young with my Grandfather who is now deceased. It didnt really matter what I rode, just getting to be there with him made the trip great.
  21. Does anyone have a picture of what the entrance area looked like pre-paramount? I've been looking around on google and can't find anything...
  22. Without a doubt, CP's Corkscrew. Being tall, it offers the second-most uncomfortable coaster I have ever been on (second to the one and only SoB). No unique elements + uncomfortable ride = worst coaster (wait for it).......... EVER
  23. I went to a Halloweekends this year and all I can say is if you stay at one of the hotels, use that 1 hour before the gates open to the public. The wait for Maverick was 3 1/2-4 hours. Same for everything else, it was hard to find a ride under 2 hours. Why not keep it open if you had the results like they did this year?! Its worth a try...
  24. Very true, new updates don't neccessarily mean the ride is not going to be removed. Remember, the report is that a removal is planned for 2010, meaning that most likely either a "major" ride is in mid-development or a "minor" addition is in the early, planning stages. Knowing CP, they like to keep their park well-kept with nothing looking in bad shape and everything running smoothly, thus the updates. I would like to see CCMR removed and have a coaster built in its place that would make use of the island that MF travels onto. However, lets dream shall we.... How about removing DT in order to begin building a 500 foot lift hill that across the parking lot with a drop that will take passengers out of the park and along the causeway. 300 foot second drop, a couple of low-water maneuvers (such as a much less intense version of mavericks s-turn), and obliterating the world-record for air-time. You know if you're going to dream might as well deam BIG Just throwing that out there haha
  25. Although I would love to see a new coaster instead of corkscrew or wildcat the space just isnt there. I would say that if a steel coaster is removed other than DT or Cedar Creek Mine Ride then I doubt we should expect much in the same place as those. Im thinking that Wildcat will be removed due to its low ride capacity and a new flat ride will be installed. But thats just my opinion
