  1. Why did they do away with most of that lovely walkway? (Tunnel) It would light up at night, so pretty! Did Paramount decide to rip most of it away? Did it come with the changing of HB to NU? If so they should have left that walkway ALONE! It's not as if they put a ride in its place.... Sometimes KI puzzles me with the choices they make, but that's just my point of view. Maybe they had a good reason for taking the Tunnel away? Or most of it rather. If anyone knows.....will you let me in on it? Thanks!
  2. That's a terrible shame. I have heard of Opryland, but I had No idea that happened to it. Sad.
  3. I thought that video was really cool! I don't think I rode The Beast when it still had water by it. I was always TOO short. Then finally I rode it. (With the help of paper towels in my gym shoes)
  4. Love the beautiful "older" pictures! Thank you for sharing. I love and miss the HB characters. Again, just lovely pictures. Pictures that made me scream out "Oh, I forgot all about that ride/HB character!" Oh the late 70's early 80's........GREAT years at KI, and I'm sure they have some more great stuff to offer in the coming years. (It just better be a hell of a lot better than turning the backward Racer around!)
  5. I'm going to miss that music too RingMaster. Wonder what they will do with the big billboard?????
  6. LOVE the Tomb Raider Legend picture! I loved the Ride, but I love the games even MORE! P.S This was to SOB_TOM. -
  7. So, technically, Invertigo doesn't count? Ooh, and technically, at times you're 'going backwards' on Firehawk when facing the sky/hot, scorching sun..... No Invertigo does not count. No airtime. As for Firehawk.......yes climbing backwards is true, it's going backwards all right meanwhile the sun is burning the skin eyes and head. (I do like that ride I just don't care for that particular part). As you stated "the scorching hot sun......" Awwww, I loved the backward Racer. It was a classic wooden coaster and when it goes backward.......it's just exhilarating!
  8. This makes me sick! The backward Racer is my favorite! Why are they doing this? What's the fun in seeing where you are going to go? We have that with The Beast, Vortex, SOB, etc. They must compensate! One of the other RC in the park must go backwards now! I probably spelled that wrong, but I'm TOO mad to care. Fiddlesticks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  9. After I pay a large amount to get into KI, I think "Oh no we are out of milk, better go to the super store before we leave Kings Island tonight." NOT! Why would you want to shop at KI? You can go to one of those stores anyday......I just can't believe that it would even be thought of.......... O.K TOO weird, I have no thoughts for this rumor. Except hahahahahaha!
  10. I always thought the shuttle was so cool. I was sad to leave my favorite place that night, but the shuttle ride was left to take my family and I back to our old car. "Let's see were we parked in Quick draw Mcgrawl or Snaggle Puss???" Ha ha!
  11. Excellent point. Fruit is so refreshing during the summer. Especially on a roller coaster riding, running from ride to ride, jam packed fun filled hot day. I LOVE that idea! I never eat anything heavy such as pizza. I don't eat meat and usually an ice cream cone is about the only thing I eat at KI. A fruit stand would be outstanding! I hope some one takes your advice!
  12. I remember when it was wall to wall with skeeball, and it was a DIME! (I was really little though) Oh, I'm really telling on myself I still love skeeball, but now they have maybe five skeeball machines?
  13. This is really interesting, the pictures are so clear. I love all of the measurements listed to the side. I have never seen much information about the Eiffel Tower. Thanks for posting it!
  14. Oh wonderful pictures! I remember when The Racer looked like that. But I do not remember the "Cuddle up" at all. I know my family and I would have ridden it. It looks like a family ride. Thanks so much for posting the pictures!
  15. Thank you, I will check that out. It is one of the most beautiful pieces of ride/art that there is. Those horses are gorgeous! I can't wait to see the doc. thanks again!

    Vortex

Just as safe as the Flight Commander. Just had to put that out. Hey now, you may have been to young to remember flight commander, but Flight Commander had a pretty intricate restraint system, even more so after the accident. Just because there was an accident doesn't mean the ride is not safe. They wouldn't operate it if it wasn't safe. I have been on all of the Coasters at Kings Island and other parks with out a seatbelt and was fine. Also look at the old King Kobra at Kinds Dominion just a buzz bar also. Why don't you take a look, the handle you are refering to is NOT a buzz bar, it is a handel mounted to the car similar to the ones on the wooden coasters at our park. It would be pretty impossible to have a buzz bar and a handle on the same car since on a buzz bar car, the buzz bar is the handle. I love these pictures. This ride looks like it would be more fun than the Screamin Demon, although I was such a fan of SC! Is the King Kobra still there? At King's Dominion?
  17. I love that idea. I never went to Coney Island when it was an amusement park. Wasn't born yet. Kennywood looks like a great park. I should like to go there someday.
  18. I take it you have studied quite a bit of math and physics? I liked your answer. It was funny. I remember riding the SD and the over-the-shoulder bar did not completely lock. I thought I was going to fall out, but no I stayed put. I agree the guy/girl would have had to try and fall out. Awww, I miss the ride. I just asked that question b/c I thought it was such a dumb rumor. Thanks for answering! P.S I like your name Thrill_Biscuit
  19. Yes, wasn't the cuddle up in Coney Mall? I thought that was a whip type of ride. Then ( I think) when they expanded the the bumper cars they got rid of it? I thought that's what was explained to me, but now I'm not sure myself. Another question on this subject....did the cuddle up come from Coney Island like the Tumble Bug, Bavarian Beetle, Flying Scooters, etc ?
  20. I'm sure this question has come up before and I'm sorry for asking again (if that is the situation). I assumed that Paramount got rid of it. I was just wondering if someone could tell me some details. I would appreciate any information on this subject. Thank you.
  21. I enjoyed it personally. Being into nature I have some great family time memories of it. The highlight though was last summer-seeing a deer on The Beast. That was a thrill. I saw a possum in line for The Beast this year. A deer would have been wonderful...... A bunch of teenage girls were screaming "look at the size of that rat!!!" It was just a possum that wandered out of the woods....It was entertaining..... I have also wondered if anyone else knew that there was a groundhog living under the spot where Vortex enters the station at the end? We saw it several times when the park wasn't crowded. I was laughing about the furry friend in line for The Beast when I remembered my own encounter about ten years ago in line for The Beast. As my friend and I waited in line I saw a beaver snarfing around the part of The Beast where it leaves the station and it goes around the track to climb the hill....... I thought, that's odd the water isn't here anymore.....what's he/she doing around here? I told my sister about it and she said "I think I would feel a bit uncomfortable knowing a freakin beaver was hanging around a wooden roller coaster!" I laughed so hard I dropped the phone. It is funny seeing furry coaster lovers, and I don't mean beard sporting patrons either. I know this is a silly story, but it is true and the opossum or possum story made me remember it. I love seeing furry four legged creatures at KI. It really and truly makes me miss the Safari that much more.
  22. a. At least the possum didn't cut line. b. Even possums line up for The Beast. c. The possum was so scared, its tail was up over its back! d. And a woman in line was heard to say to no one in particular: "Quit playing possum!" Terpy, he'll be here all week, folks! LOL! Oh, my stomach hurts! LOL!
  23. I have an amusing anecdote regarding Screamin' Demon that some of you might enjoy. The years have all seemed to run together, but I'm going to say this happened in '79 maybe. The launch mechanism was always trouble-prone and sometimes the train would not have enough speed/momentum to make it all the way up the far side. The chain dogs would keep the train from rolling back down the hill and, depending on the exact position of the train, the guests would be assisted out of the cars and allowed to walk down the steps. But if the train was too far back on the slope it was deemed unsafe to evacuate the cars, and steel-coaster maintenance would need to manually release the chain-dogs, allowing the train to roll back down the slope where it would eventually come to a stop at the bottom of the loop. The train would then be evacuated safely. That scenario unfolded one day and I was a close-up witness of it. I should note here that the situation I just described was not uncommon and, although it did not occur every day, it occurred often enough that anyone working on the Demon was thuroughly familiar with the procedure. Anyway, to get back to the story... on this particular day the train, when released, travelled backward down the slope, and up the loop far enough to strike a perfect balance at the top of the loop. It remained motionless at the top of the loop, upside down, full of guests... and things started falling into the water below... sunglasses, purses, hats, and anything else that was loose... Although it seemed much longer at the time, it only hung there for about a minute or so before the squirming of the guests finally unbalanced the train, sending it back down to the bottom of the loop where it gradually came to rest. Thankfully, no one was injured during this incident so I don't feel too out-of-line calling it "humorous". Wow, I didn't know that the Screamin Demon had that problem. I wonder if that's why people claimed that it got stuck and people fell out? I would have been really mad to have my purse and sunglasses fall into that water! Yuk.
  24. I knew this would happen when they appointed Alfred Hitchcock to the Cedar Fair board of directors! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh, you're killing me! That is SO funny. Alfred Hitchcock..........
  25. Wow, that one IS really goofy!
