  1. If the park has been doing it since before 1989, I'm pretty certain that Coca-Cola is fully aware of this. After all, it's their fountain dispensers that are used in the park that have the plain water button on the orange soda spicket.
  2. I worked in Food Service at KI from 1989-1993. Even back then, the orange soda in the park was not carbonated. This allowed for that spicket to have a water button which we could push whenever a park guest asked for a cup of water. I don't remember if it was Fanta or Minute Maid, but I think it was Minute Maid back then. I know it wasn't Hi-C. When someone asked for water, we would have to push that button and let it run for a few seconds to clear the orange out of the dispenser so the guest could get plain water. If someone had an issue with the orange not being carbonated, we could add a splash of Sprite to it, which people didn't mind; we never had any complaints when we did that.
  3. Don't look at me, I haven't heard anything. (And even if I had, I wouldn't tell you anyway! )
  4. You are correct. When the building was converted from Smurf's Enchanted Voyage (which used the whole building), Phantom Theater only used the left side of it. The other side became Enchanted Theater, which is where they had shows for the kids. That area hasn't been used for shows in years and is currently occupied by CarnEvil.
  5. Hmmm... never heard of that one. I'll have to check them out.
  6. Um... no. As jcgoble3 said, they are too heavy and not snappable (although I've heard that someone did snap them once, and they promptly closed down the ride for maintenance to determine what was wrong with it). I love flying scooters, but this is the absolute worst set I've been on... I still ride them though because they're still fun. APE, I'm glad you enjoyed yourself. Voyage used to be my #1 woodie, but a particularly rough ride on it last year was the final straw and it slipped down to #3. I read that they did some track work on it this year so hopefully it's riding better. As others have said the waterpark is amazing, definitely worth a return trip. I'm kind of sad that this will be the first year since 2008 that I haven't been.
  7. Uh oh... I'm kind of wishing I hadn't opened this topic. I didn't realize that Darien Lake was so close to our route that we're taking in August on our Kennywood/Conneaut/Waldemeer/Niagara Falls/Canada's Wonderland trip. Now I'm wondering if we would have time to squeeze in Darien. I don't think so though... ugh! What to do, what to do... I'm looking forward to your impressions of Canada's Wonderland. I've been there twice (1996 & 1997) and loved it, I can't wait to get back there again this year!
  8. Are you doing this all in one trip? It'll take a while to get all the way back up here from Florida and your University of Miami visit. (Miami University, on the other hand, is much closer to UC & KI!) - Gator, who spent a few years at a certain school in Oxford... and they even gave him a piece of paper to prove it!
  9. How the heck do they plan on ensuring that?!?
  10. I'm pretty sure that I've called it all three at times myself. Yes, I am. I'm going with the knowledge that I will more than likely not be riding very much. I just want to see firsthand how a park that has been SBNO for years is going to handle the large influx of patrons that I expect to be there. Considering that my only other visit to KK in 1998 ranks as one of my worst park experiences ever, this should be fun since I'm going in expecting the worst. I sincerely hope they surprise me. I want to like the place, honestly I do. I was going to give them another chance in 2010, but then they announced they weren't reopening. This will be my only trip there this year, but I fully intend on going back sometime mid-season next year to compare opening day this year to what their operations will become in the future. I'm glad I talked to you yesterday about this and read your post today. I won't even bother with Lightning Run on Saturday since I know that there will be no chance in Hades that I'll be able to fit. I'm looking forward to enjoying their flying scooters and another ride on Flying Dutchman. I missed it last time I was there and haven't ridden it since it was at KI. I'm still debating whether I will brave the waterpark with the temps that are predicted. It may be too chilly for me... we'll see.
  11. That's right! I did take that into account when I figured out if one day tickets or platinum passes would be better.
  12. Hue difference? The original OTSR's were black. The restraints now are orange. There you go. I'm pretty sure the original OTSR's were green, but you made your point. EDIT: I just checked rcdb to confirm my memory. There are no pictures on there of KI's OL:FoF with the original OTSR's, but there is one of KD's... which were green.
  13. I miss Chaos! I was so upset when Cedar Point took it out. I don't remember any ticking clocks though... Wait, what? That's a different Chaos? Oops, my bad, carry on!
  14. That doesn't make her a former member. Inactive, maybe, but not former. Semantics. I say to-may-to, you say to-mah-to. Could we be a little more nit-picky?
  15. That would be former KIC member gigacoaster2k and her boyfriend. I only say "former" because her account's active but she hasn't been on here in quite some time.
  16. Unlikely. They're not Vekomas, but see Carowind's Flying Super Saturator and Hersheypark's Roller Soaker, which are very similar to that. I never got the chance to ride either (if I hadn't gotten strep throat the first day of our 2009 vacation I would have ridden Roller Soaker) but from what I understand they were terrible on capacity, and both are no longer operating.
  17. RIP Trail of Terror. You were gone too soon, and you just had to go the way of the dinosaurs.
  18. Also, it takes more than one visit to another Cedar Fair park to make up the difference between a Gold and Platinum pass. If you are only planning to make a single one-day trip to Cedar Point, look into how much a general admission ticket costs and compare it to what you would spend for a Platinum pass. For us, a one day admission to Canada's Wonderland and another one day admission to Cedar Point plus what we paid for our Gold passes is still cheaper than a Platinum pass.
  19. On Memorial Day weekend all active and retired military personnel get free admission to the park, so that may drive up some attendance. However, with a Fast Lane+ this shouldn't be an issue.
  20. This topic will be helpful to me too since the Gator family and Hydra will be trekking up there this summer. I've been twice, but the last time was in 1997 so I don't think I can offer too much advice. I plan on riding everything that I can (yes, even Time Warp... sorry Hydra!). Hopefully we won't need Fast Lane. I think it might be an ordeal to talk Mrs. Gator into springing for that. Thanks for posting that about the insurance card, Bennett, I never knew that. Anyone have any advice on a relatively inexpensive motel up there? I'm doing my research but any help would be appreciated too.
  21. GatorGirl's first inverting coaster was Tennessee Tornado at Dollywood, which has a 48" height requirement. We were there with a large group of friends, she had just reached 48" that year and the only other 48"ers she had ridden at that point were Racer, Flight Deck, Adventure Express & Backlot. We all went to ride it, but she said she didn't want to, so she didn't. After we got off, she heard everyone talking about how much fun that coaster is. When we returned to that section of the park later that day for another ride, she said she was ready. I asked her if she was sure, she said that she was, she got on and loved it. I was hoping she would because her first looper was probably going to be Vortex otherwise, and out of the two Tennessee Tornado is much smoother.
  22. Well, it finally happened... a Walk of Shame on Banshee. I got to the park at about 11:00 this past Friday night to get some riding in. After talking to some friends for about 15 minutes, I went over to The Bat and got a ride in there. I then got in line for Banshee and the line wasn't too long. I had only ridden the blue train on my four previous rides on Media Day and opening day, and this time I got teal. I took my seat in 4-3, the ride op pushed down a little bit on my restraint and then started to give me a spiel that you can tell he had recited a thousand times, something to the effect of "This ride is designed so that you must have the seatbelt latched in order to ride. Since I'm not able to get your seatbelt latched..." I cut him off by saying, "Yeah I know..." but in my head thought "Save your breath and don't give me that pre-recorded speech." I exited and decided right then and there that I was going to go home. I felt defeated, but I ended up staying until close to talk with friends. I had been planning on going Sunday (yesterday), but after the walk of shame I thought, "What's the point?" I ended up staying home yesterday and I'm still kind of currently in the mindset of why should I go if I don't fit on my new favorite steel coaster? Time to buckle down and get to work on losing more than the 20 lbs. I've already lost since December. I'm not sure when I'll be in the mood to go back to the park. I might be going with the Gatorettes sometime this weekend, but it may be a while before I'm in the right frame of mind to take a solo trip or meet up with friends there.
  23. ^Thanks, I didn't know that! I've only eaten there once or twice since it was put in Festhaus, and each time was when GatorGirl wasn't with me.
  24. My first was Screamin' Demon. We went through the loop and on the opposite side, with my voice waivering I turned to my uncle sitting next to me and asked "We have to go through that again?!?" My uncle, with a big smile on his face said, "Yeah, backwards!"
