  1. We can call it Capital Carnage! The wife and I would cry tears of joy for that to happen. That was one of our favorite rides. That's still one of my favorite flats, but with the issues that multiple parks are rumored to have had with those, I think it's pretty safe to say we won't be seeing Chaos at KI, sadly.
  2. ^ They do recycle... http://marketplace.dorneypark.com/Demon-Drop-Recycle-T-Shirt-P2690.aspx#
  3. That's a decent example. Another one would be Trail of Terror being taken out to be replaced by Dinosaurs Alive. I like DA and think it's a great family attraction, but I miss ToT. It was one of my favorite haunts that the park ever had. Too bad it wasn't relocated somewhere else, but I don't know where they could have moved it to.
  4. Et tu, Brute? A Shakespearean haunt couldst be fun. It hath been a while since I hast lasteth w'rn tights (doeth not asketh), but whilst washing the blood and makeup off myself aft'r a night of w'rking Haunt, I can oft be heard proclaiming "Out, darned spot! Out, I say!", 'r some variation th'reof. Alright, 'twas a Renaissance fair that was puteth on by a community theat'r group that mineth fath'r was involv'd with when I was a child, in which I p'rtray'd a prison'r of the Sh'rrif of Nottingham, rescu'd by Robin Hood and his band of m'rry men, when I lasteth w're tights. (No offense taken, Ryan. Just having a bit of fun, I am!) It's good to see Slaughter House's return at a new location confirmed by the park, and much, much sooner than I expected. I'm looking forward to the new location, which I would assume will more than likely have a new layout. Now to just wait and see where that new location will be!
  5. They have non-scary mazes. There's a hay bale maze and a nursery rhyme themed maze over in Soak City for your enjoyment! Just givin' you a hard time!
  6. Maybe they plan on dropping leaflets from a hot-air balloon. That's still better than dropping live turkeys from a helicopter. "As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly!" -Gator, showing my age... that caught me off guard. Very good placement! Was that Less Nessman? Why, thank you! Les did the on the ground reporting, but it was Gordon Jump's character Arthur Carlson that said the line. I was talking to a friend on Saturday (kittenpooh, for those of you that have been here for a while) who hadn't heard that they were putting in a drop ride. In disbelief, she went online, saw this picture and read me the caption. I hadn't heard what KK was going to call the ride, and when she said FearFall I said "What? How can they use that name?" You know, since there's a not-so-little ride down at Universal's Islands of Adventure, Doctor Doom's Fearfall, the structure of which is a prominent part of that park's skyline and which appears in much of their advertising. Surely the legal representation for Kentucky Kingdom must have cleared use of the name FearFall... right? Right? (They may have... and don't call me Shirley.)
  7. Do tell. I love SFStL and very much enjoyed their dark ride, even though our boat was definitely taking on water. I've certainly had my fill of boats taking on water. S.O.S... S.O.S... The S.S. Gator has sunk!
  8. I wouldn't say any dryer is better than paper towels. Given the choice between paper towels and a World Hand Dryer, I'll take paper towels every time. Paper towels vs. Xcelerator, Xcelerator wins.
  9. The Independence Day track that was used on the lift hill was "The Darkest Day." http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Gy3bGMdt8bg
  10. Maybe they plan on dropping leaflets from a hot-air balloon. That's still better than dropping live turkeys from a helicopter. "As God is my witness, I thought turkeys could fly!" -Gator, showing my age...
  11. I much prefer the Xcelerator hand dryers over the Dysons!
  12. I wasn't aware of that. It's been a while since I've had to deal with work permits (10 years since I was in management at the park) and even longer since I needed one myself, so the laws may have changed since then. I tried to look it up online, but couldn't find anything about 18 year olds in high school needing work permits amongst all the legalese on the state's website. If I was in the right frame of mind I'd take more time to look through it, but it's the end of the work day and my brain is fried!
  13. KI's website says that 16 is the minimum age for Ride Ops, unless they've already hired all the minors they can take, which may be the case. https://www.visitkingsisland.com/jobs/2014-jobs
  14. ^That's funny. 18 year olds definitely do not need work permits in the state of Ohio!
  15. A guy on an enthusiast page on Facebook said that The Beast is not a terrain coaster, it's an out and back. I replied back with "How is The Beast NOT a terrain coaster? It was specifically designed to utilize the hills on the back of the park's property & for the majority of the ride, you're close to the ground (which is a common complaint of a lot of enthusiasts, but not this one!). To call it a simple out and back is utterly ridiculous with all of its turns. KI's Racer is an out and back, but The Beast certainly is not!" He responded that that's how he views it because that is how he sees it, and tried to say that there's only a few sections that use the terrain but it's mostly "the ride structure with a hill here and there." I decided to not argue any further with him, although so many responses came to mind. He clearly does not know the correct definitions of terrain coaster and out and back coaster. Luckily I had some personal friends back me up by posting a link to a picture of the layout from KIC and another who said that The Beast is the definition of a terrain coaster.
  16. Huh? HW's are way worse than Stricker's. HW's are much heavier & too slow. Stricker's are lighter and more comparable to KI's old set. I can get a few snaps in at Stricker's, but not as many and not as forceful as when they were located where the Pirate Ship is now. When they moved it in between the coasters, I think it cut down on the wind and they're not as easy to snap as they once were (but still easier than HW's). Electric Rainbow makes me nauseous every time I ride it. I'm fine in every other Round-Up I've been on though. I first rode it at LeSourdesville and, I am not making this up, a majority of the people on our ride cycle were yelling for the ride op to stop the ride because it was making them sick (of course, this was the infamous year of Couch's Carnies running the park, so our pleas went unanswered). When I rode it again at Stricker's, the ride cycle was shorter, but I realized what the difference was between that one and others, like Revolution at HW. Electric Rainbow spends a lot longer time spinning in the original position before the arm lifts the ride up and tilts you. I think this is probably what gets to me. I think it varies by ride op. I've heard rumor of this being the case now, but I snapped on closing day and nothing was ever said to me (plus, I don't remember seeing it posted as a rule).
  17. The former KI scooters that are now at Carowinds are indeed awesome. However, the fact that Carowinds shuts down the ride at the first snap can mean very short ride cycles. I thought that I had heard/read that Carowinds was supportive of snapping, and even encouraged it.
  18. ^No, I spent plenty of time in line waiting for them! As much as I would love to see the original set return to KI, I think that would be highly unlikely. They are the best set of scooters I've ever ridden. Try and try as I might, no other set that I've been on comes close (although Idlewild's was pretty good, but they don't let you snap them so they lose major points for that!). I'll always remember the summer of '89, my first year working in the park. A girl that I kind of had a flirtation-thing going on with in my stand wanted to go on some rides after our shift, so of course I said yes. We got on the Flying Eagles and she asked me if I knew how to snap them. I told her that I had no idea what she was talking about. She sure showed me! I have her to thank for making me love flying scooters as much as I do. That day opened up a whole new aspect to the ride I had never known about.
  19. I'd hate to see how you kids would have been back in my day. Back in the '70s and '80s we didn't have your internets and your webcams, your chatrooms and your forums. The park closed in the fall, it reopened in the spring, and more times than not there would be a new ride there. Whether we liked it or not, we either had to wait until the commercials started in the spring, catch a story in the newspaper* or actually go to the park to see what it was going to be. Now get off my lawn. *A newspaper was a publication, usually printed daily with a more extended edition on Sundays, that included news articles, opinion pieces, public interest stories, classified ads and comics (or "funnies"), among other items. They could commonly be purchased in stores, at "newsstands", or delivered to one's home for a fee. With the advancement of technology, newspapers have become more and more rare, although online editions of some of these publications have managed to survive.
  20. I pretty much wrote my entertainment resume the other day. It took a lot more time than I thought it would... I couldn't remember what years I did a few of the shows. I had to think of who was in it with me, and how many years they graduated before or after me. Of course, most of those shows were over 23 years ago...
  21. ^IndyGuy, I think you're just trying to increase the number of replies in the topic that you started instead of this one!
  22. For most of Slaughter House, light getting in over the walls is only an issue for the first hour or so of each night, with that amount of time decreasing as the season goes on due to the sun setting earlier. Sory, Mama tryz 2 git us boys 2 showr butt we dont tak 2 kindly 2 watr so all that stink gits bilt up! -Sam
  23. Sam and the Slaughter House boys are not as attractive in skimpy outfits as the girls in Club Blood. A truly terrifying sight indeed!
  24. Only time will tell. We'll just have to wait about 6.5 months until the park announces 2014 Haunt plans. Until then, you ain't gettin' nothin' outta me!
  25. I was able to marathon pretty hardcore last year. I forget the exact count without switching seats, but it was pretty high. 99 total laps on Racer during Coasting for Kids last year! Hopefully I can participate again this year, it's just too early for me to sign up yet. I don't know if I (or the Gatorettes) will be free that day since a few things are still up in the air.
