  1. ^That works for you but not everyone. When I'm there with Mrs. Gator and GatorGirl, and Mrs. Gator wants to get a ride in on Diamondback but GatorGirl isn't tall enough, we use our phones to meet back up once she's done. This happens several times throughout the year, since Mrs. Gator doesn't get to KI as much as I do (I do a lot of solo trips and trips with KIC people so when I'm there with the girls I don't really need to ride DB). I agree with KIfan, I wish my wife would learn to text too. It's much easier to do that in a park environment than try to hear on the phone over ride noise and music. Before 2009 I never texted, but violakat and Ride Warriors Weekend changed all that!
  2. It sounds like they had two ride names that they couldn't decide between so they mashed them together. Gotham City Gauntlet is a fine name by itself, and so is Escape from Arkham Asylum. Even the addition of a colon makes a world of difference. Gotham City Gauntlet: Escape from Arkham Asylum. Much like The Outer Limits: Flight of Fear. And people thought Boo Blasters on Boo Hill and Race for Your Life, Charlie Brown were bad names...
  3. Wow... Really??? Did NBF cost more than the five Paramount parks? I think Knott... To whom? If that was truly the case in 2009 (which I don't recall that it was), I guess CF closed GL two years too early. Of course, I don't think they would have wanted to sell a park that close to CP to a competitor.
  4. I'll trust you on this Terpy, but I thought that the upcharge was around before Paramount. Per the timeline, the safari/habitat only lasted 1 1/2 seasons after the Paramount acquisition. Sorry Terpy, but I'm with KIfan on this one. I know Lion Country Safari wasn't around until 1974, but I'm very certain that the upcharge existed before Paramount. Before we had season passes, my family only went to KI once a year. My grandmother worked in the park from the beginning, first in the Executive Dining Room, and later in Housekeeping. We used the tickets that she got from working there for our yearly visits. In addition to the tickets to enter the park, there were also separate tickets that she received and gave to us that were for the monorail. And when I started working at the park in 1989, I'm pretty certain that I received those tickets too. I have a friend who worked at Lion Country Safari/WAH for years. I'll try contacting her to see if she remembers when the upcharge started.
  5. ^I call bull on that. Gabriel Iglesias blows things out of proportion for bigger people (yes, I strongly dislike him and his attempts at comedy. Okay, you're fat... er, I mean "fluffy". We get it. Get some new jokes besides ones about being overweight!). There are plenty of rides at WDW that are easily accessible for people of larger proportions. "it's a small world", Peter Pan, Haunted Mansion, Winnie the Pooh, Dumbo, Jungle Cruise, Pirates of the Caribbean, Buzz Lightyear's Space Ranger Spin, Tomorrowland Transit Authority... I could go on and on. And that's not even all of them at Magic Kingdom, let alone Epcot, DHS & AK!
  6. I remember very clearly Zephyr and Skylab both opening the same year. According to KIC's Timeline, they opened in 1986. King Cobra debuted in 1984.
  7. Ah, yes... questions in my area of expertise, Admissions! Unfortunately, I don't know what year the first season passes were available. I had that information at one time, but it's gone now. Personally, I know we started getting season passes around 1985, so they were available before then. Markr may be correct on this one, 1981 does sound familiar. There was an upcharge attraction in the early years of the park... Lion Country Safari, aka Wild Animal Habitat, aka the monorail. I know when I was a youngun it cost an extra dollar to ride. Besides that the next upcharge attraction to be added, to the best of my recollection, was Drop Zone in 1995, later to be renamed Xtreme Skyflyer. I recall from my Admissions days a time when the woman who had won the contest to name the park came for a visit. Her prize, or part of it, was a lifetime pass to KI. All she had to do was stop by Guest Relations and they gave her a ticket.
  8. I had a Haunt dream the other night. I was in my Haunt makeup/costume, but we were allowed to roam the park during the day too and ride the rides, as long as we stayed in character. We also put on little skits throughout the park. Faeriewench and I were involved in one in Rivertown where she was hanging from a lamp post and I would scare people, and unbeknownst to them, subtly guide them in her direction. Faeriewench would scare them again when they got to her. I would then scold Faeriewench for scaring people when she should be dead, and she would make a smart comment back to me. Then it was time for Haunt to officially open, and I headed over to Slaughter House, but I was worried because we didn't have any rehearsal time at all. Is it September 23rd yet? I take that back, that date will be here before we know it. We still have a whole summer of fun ahead of us (after 3 more months of the dreaded O.S.)
  9. ^It was. You can still ride a smaller version, Witches' Wheel, at Cedar Point. Rotag and I made sure to ride it on our last trip up there in September. Stalkerchick sat that one out, something about not liking spinny rides or something...
  10. Sorry, double post somehow
  11. I'm having trouble imagining what the loading area, queue, entrance/exit of FX Theater and exit of Vortex is going to look like with WS situated in that spot. It'll be interesting to see this all take shape. It just seems to me that that area will be congested. We'll see though!
  12. I'm about 99.9% certain that the elephant was blue, but I've been wrong before. That elephant now sits outside of Jungle Jim's. It's no longer a fountain, but it is nice to be able to still see it!

  14. To that end, is the hourly capacity of an Intamin inverted shuttle coaster that much greater? I realize that Wicked Twister has 4 more riders per train than Invertigo, but still, they're similar in concept and WT was installed at CP (and not too terribly far from the entrance).
  15. Then there are those of us (myself included) who have gone a vast majority of our lives trusting only the lapbar... and lived to tell about it! Even the old one postion buzzbars that were once common at KI, but are now only found there on a nice wooden kiddie coaster. I miss those old days, and view seatbelts as a necessary evil in these days of increased rider stupidity.
  16. While it may be true, did this comment really need to be in the article? Once again a "professional" publication isn't so professional.
  17. Sorry Ro, I'm gonna have to fight you for the back row. If both of us tried to squeeze into that seat, you know what I would be saying: "There goes my airtime!" Of course, my legs can only withstand so many rides in the back row of that coaster!
  18. Dang it! I wanted WildCat. If I couldn't have that, I wanted Disaster Transport. Oh well. I'll take one of my other "small" favorites... #1 - Magnum XL-200 (McSalsa) #2 - Super Himalaya (KIfan1980) #3 - Maverick (HTCO) #4 - Wicked Twister (TH13TEEN) #5 - Raptor (thekidd33) #6 - Mantis (TylerRider) #7 - Top Thrill Dragster (jcgoble3) #8 - Millennium Force (TombRaiderFTW) #9 - Power Tower (Corn4head) #10 - Skyhawk (muppetfan1999) #11 - Gemini (Airtimeluvr) #12 - Blue Streak (PhantomTheater) #13 - MaXair (beastfan26) #14 - Johnny Rockets (rcfreak339) #15 - Iron Dragon (TG93) #16 - Disaster Transport (Ogrmac) #17 - WindSeeker (Coney Islander) #18 - Mean Streak (LordSkippy) #19- WildCat (Unrealsk8er) #20 - Sky Ride (Jasper) #21 - Cedar Creek Mine Ride (DiamondbackCMH #22 - Corkscrew (stephatron) #23 - Cedar Downs Racing Derby (XGatorHead 8904)
  19. Q Investments seems like a schoolyard bully to me, trying to beat up on CF to get their way. And when they don't get their way they go crying to the media with personal attacks. Now, it's been quite a while since I've taken a math class, but last time I checked, 49.4% does not make a majority. So like it or not Q, you haven't gotten your way so far. Like others on here, I disagree with Q's proposal to increase the dividends. Sure, it makes sense for the benefit of Q's hedge fund investors, but not for the long term good of the company. If Q intends to hold onto their shares for any length of time, I would think that the long term benefit of the company would be a priority. Their call to increase the dividends to me screams that they're in it for the short term, then they'll bail out and dump the CF shares once the company's in worse shape than it is now. I hope that if it does go to yet another vote, CF shareholders will see through this and are prudent enough to vote against it. The sad thing is, CF probably wouldn't be having these troubles with Q had it not been for the Apollo deal, which is when Q entered the picture. So in a way, I guess CF brought this upon themselves.
  20. I didn't know him, but I'm sorry to hear of his passing. I loved the air show at KI as a kid, and I remember the biplane dogfight.
  21. I assume what she meant by "options for the return of your donations" is different methods to get the money back to those that donated.
  22. Did I miss something? What happens on Toosday? Just this little event: http://www.KICentral...showtopic=23087
  23. Topic already being discussed here: http://www.KICentral...showtopic=23116
  24. A little proofreading would have been nice. "Aerials Undersea Adventures"? Nope. Try Ariel's Undersea Adventures. Yes, having a six year old daughter has taught me all about the Disney princesses!
