The worst thing about KI is that its 70 miles from me. Still, its not bad to live that close to a major amusement park. But, sometimes I wish it was closer so I could go more often.

I voted D, but the half-pipe coaster themed to Tony Hawk or the X-Games would be sweet. Would it fit where DOT is? Would tie in well with the "Action" Zone.

One time when I was about 4 or 5 cycles away from getting on The Vortex, I watched a girl throw up all over the place as the train she was in rolled into the station. I remember them hosing it out and cycling it empty for awhile. So, I almost threw up on Vortex without actually ever riding it.

I waited 45 minutes for TG on July 2. I didn't wait that long in '93. FOF has been jammed all summer, but on that day, I rode it twice with maybe a 10 minute wait. 2 hours (I timed it) for Firehawk on June 12. And somebody said something about Fearfest. My gosh are the lines unbelievable during Fearfest. We waited around 1 1/2 hours last year for TR:TR, and didn't even try The Beast, it was so long.

I wish the park would offer some really unique souvenirs now. Some of the new shirts are actually pretty nice, but thats about it. And whats up with there being no postcards anymore?
-
I was hoping to hear from anybody that recognizes stuff in the photos. I went around that time, but I was 2 years old, so I don't remember anything...lol

I collect KI postcards. Most of them are views of the park that most people have seen, or can find here on the site. I came across a couple I wanted to share that I thought offered a couple, lesser seen views of KI in the early '70s. Enjoy!

I think its just another example of Cedar Fair's mishandling of the season (or Gold) passes. Personally, I'm not real worried about most of the Gold pass benefits, I just liked the free parking. I always wanted a season pass to KI, and finally, the last two years I've had one. But buying it and using it has been a little complicated and confusing sometimes, for sure. Next year I just may go back to buying single-day discount tickets when I'm in the mood to go. Which I imagine that Cedar Fair would prefer me to do, anyway.

Thanks! Ask this site, and ye shall know!!

I've watched the show a couple times this summer. Good show, and the AC is really nice! I have been wondering something since I've watched the show the first time. Maybe somebody asked this during the tour, or already knows: Where do the skaters go/what do they do in between shows? You've got to be in prime condition and have a certain personality to do a show like that several times a day, every day. I can't believe they just have to sit in a room somewhere or something. Anybody know?

Hard Rock Park @ Myrtle Beach
KIfan73 replied to KIfan73's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I actually thought that the Hard Rock park might actually compete with KI. So many people from this area go to Myrtle Beach. I always see lots of people I know when I go there... -
I agree with all 3. But, I have thought the Paramount story area could benefit from a small walk-up food stand. I think it would give people a reason to go in there, and its a great place to relax. Whenever I walk through there, there's never a soul in there. I think it would have made a great place for the Starbucks. Nice relaxing place to drink a coffee.

I've wondered about how they're progressing on this. It looks like they just completed the first coaster. It also says its supposed to open in spring '08. If you look at the web cam, that seems a little optimistic, if you ask me...Looks like its going to be a neat place. www.hardrockpark.com

My Opinion on the Future of Cedar Fair
KIfan73 replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I've had lots of thoughts about directions KI should take (different eating experiences, new parts of the park, etc.). However, on my last trip to KI, instead of walking to my car, I took a hike over to GWL to check it out. IMO, this is EXACTLY what KI needed, and the sad thing is is that is not theirs. To me, this should be the "Kings Island Inn". I would have liked to have seen it actually share the entrance with KI, and really have it a part of the park. The design of it just goes so well with an amusement park. The gift shop in it could have had all "KI" goods. And, with the indoor water park, Kings Island could have moved into being billed as a year-round park. Please remember, I don't claim to be any expert at amusement park management. Just my opinion as someone who visits KI alot. I feel that a hotel/attraction like GWL could have taken KI/Cedar Fair to that "next level". But now, I guess, it just competes with the park. -
Wow, it sounded like it would be a really neat ride.... http://web.archive.org/web/19960101000000-...tomb_raider.jsp

Nice TR. Sounds like what most people have to say about KI: Great rides, bad food service...lol.

I was messing around on photobucket...thought it turned out kind of neat. **edit** I can't even get the link to work for me either...I have no idea...I guess this post needs deleted...sorry. http://s24.photobucket.com/albums/c40/John...¤t=33369e1c.pbw

OK, I see the construction in that pic, but what the area I saw them working on was back and to the left of that, real close to the tall privacy fence that lines TG's queue.
-
I meant to post this a few days ago... I was at the park last Monday, 7/23/07. I saw a couple guys, one in a tie, kind of measuring/surveying in an area by TG's queue. The best way to be able to see the area is if you are exiting SOB, right at the end of the exit queue, and you looked to the right. There's so many fences, its the only way I could see them. Its the grassy area, running along the tall privacy fence next to TG's queue. Probably nothing, but, hey, I never have any good rumors to start... In the photo, I tried to shade roughly the area I'm talking about: It is in the area behind EXtreme Skyflyer

Oh, I'd kind of forgotten about the confusion about the passes. This was my second season to have a pass, and I'd REALLY like to have another one for next year, but I really don't know if I can put myself through that process again. I just have a KI pass (the only park I'm really interested in going to). I remember last fall standing in two lines during Fearfest for an hour while the rest of my party was in the park riding rides. Then all the switching back and forth during the off-season wondering if I'd get free parking, or what benefits I'd have. Then, finally during my first trip this season turning in my temp pass, getting my gold pass, and asking the guy if the free parking was on my pass. "Oh, that had free parking on it?" ughhhh I love going to KI, and the pass has been a good value for me. However, if there was this much hassle and confusion over something I HAD to do, that would be one thing. But, for something that is just for fun, and is a 140 mile round trip for me each time, I just don't know if I'll do it again.

Congo is a blast. I hope they don't tear it out. I hate to sound like an old-timer, but they just don't build 'em like that anymore. It has more 'theming' than any new ride they put in. Its almost like going back in time on it, but its in great shape, too!

They do seem to be letting that end of the park die off for some reason. The FX theater would make a nice place for a restaurant. Sort of back by itself, with awesome views of The Racer. "Racer Diner"? That would be a unique experience they could offer...couldn't get that anyplace else. Would need some soundproofing, though.
-
It is sad to see the FX theater now, especially if you remember what it was like new. When the Days of Thunder movie was new it had race cars all along the queue, sound effects, etc. Then (Kyle?) Petty had a movie on a big screen to get you ready, along with a bunch of other neat race car/NASCAR theming. A new midway its its place is compelling, though...

Thats funny. I posted about that a month or so ago. After all these years, thats the first time I'd noticed it. When I was at the park about 3 weeks ago, the gate was actually open...(loud, suspenseful music insert here...lol)...
