Awesome photo's here and on your site (a highly recommended click for those that haven't done so yet). I especially like the "Who Ordered B&M for 2010?" section. It's amazing how a whole bunch of individually bland sections that can fit in a Seatainer can turn into something like Diamondback! And all from here in Southern Ohio.

Don't worry, Firehawk will go "rust bucket" on us eventually, just like its friends Flight Deck and Backlot Stunt Coaster, and, to a lesser extent, Flight of Fear. Hey, I resent that. Firehawk is an amazing ride and i doubt it will ever be that crappy. Sure its down a lot, whats new, all coasters go down. I agree that backlot needs to go, but not the other three, they are oldys, but goldys OUCH - did you just call rides that opened in the 90's Old? Beast, Racer, FOC as Oldies I get, but Flight Deck and FOF? Some of us wouldn't even call Vortex an oldy! Either that, or maybe I'm old

SFOG: Monster Mansion Coming
KIfan1980 replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
And many of us appreciate it - thank you! -
^ But as I've heard you say before, forecasts this far in advance can be wrong.
-
markr - completely understand and agree with your point. From a customer perspective, this statement should not have been made (I hope you wouldn't see a similar comment in the transcript from the recent analysts call). I was merely trying to assess the perceived accuracy of the statement from my perspective. terpy - appreciate you sharing your knowledge on the LP structure (I'll have to do more research to better understand this). I do assume, though, that even without input from the partners, the fact that FUN units are publicly traded and owned by executives does drive the company to run the business trying to increase unit value.
-
As folks have said - ask nicely and you most often shall receive, but ... please don't get angry, yell, etc... if the ride op say's "sorry, can't do that for you right now" which does happen sometimes.

I think this topic is getting blown a little out of proportion. This was an 'overhead statement' from an unidentified CF representative about KI not getting new rides at the Diamondback Press announcement. Lets not get carried away. CF and KI are obviously supporting many of their most loyal customers, but lets also recognize that as a business they also are responsible to shareholders to understand the business situation and find a way to increase shareholder value. This value comes from sales of Season Passes, Individual Tickets, Games, Food, Merchandise (and not necessarily in that order) - if this adds up to families being the biggest driver, so be it. My guess is its true - based upon the lines at Nick U restaurants and the number of kids I see eating blue ice cream!
-
Got to say that while the line operation isn't perfect, I can't complain about it too much - KI doesn't have to have one, it is an added perk, not a right. How it should be used all comes down to the question about what you think the purpose of the line is: My belief is that it should be for anyone who is willing to ride as a single (with no choice on seat and ride partners) while giving a "slight" advantage on wait time to these riders over the general queue to ensure every train is full. The pass system is designed to support this by ensuring that the single rider line never gets too long. As an often single rider, who has used both the SRL and general queue, what you have to do is decide when you get there whether it is worth it or not. Pass available and full queue - go SRL. Pass not available and half empty queue - get in the queue. Want to ask for a 16 or a 1 seat assignment - get in the queue. And don't whine at the ride ops who don't have passes, they are just doing their job.

Before you show it to him, try asking him if he was "scared" or "rode arms up the whole way". See how honest is he.
-
I'm surprised that dare-to-fly didn't mention that the biggest factor in train speeds on coasters is the amount of trimming
-
I think you'd miss them more than you estimate. One option - How many people are in line for those flats that would now be in line for the coasters? Second option - How many people who don't ride coasters would decide to not come to the park. This would lead to KI losing money and less future investment, etc...
-
Same article in the Mason Pulse~Journal today correctly references the longest "wooden" coaster, but online link is incorrect. Also, there is a link to a few Beast pictures on the website. I think a couple are kind of cool.
-
Yep - been there and done that. Big Shot (awesome) and High Roller (boring) were the rides back then. I plan to return next year and try the new rides.

New Orleans preparing to sue Six Flags....
KIfan1980 replied to raptorcp21's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Quote from story: Six Flags spokeswoman Sandra Daniels calls the threat a "save-face tactic" and says the city's contention that the company violated its lease has no merit. Does the city of New Orleans not have better things to do with its officials time and taxpayer money? The park is not going to be reopened, it wasn't a money maker, and the company has been paying its lease. Government can't force a company to ..(oh wait, scratch that - alhtough I don't think anyone is bailing out SIX). At some point, you have to look at reality, you may not always like it, but you always have to live with it. Maybe this should be the approach taken by all sides here. -
I only wish SoB currently ran with a capacity of 1000 pph... fondly remembering 3 trains, loops, and fast moving lines. Last time I checked it (last season), capacity was well less than 500 Edit: Corrected typo, capacity # should have said less than 500

High Roller was a boring ride around the top of stratosphere, but the views were incredible. Big Shot was on the other hand an incredible rush of adrenaline along with the incredible view and the most surreal feeling of weightlessness that high above the earth you can imagine. Back on topic - fear is a funny thing. The queasiest feeling I get in my stomach at KI is on top of the Eiffel Tower. SoB, DB, Beast, Millenium Force - no problem, Tower - can we go down now!

Former Hard Rock Park has a new name
KIfan1980 replied to nhimes90's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
At KI, I believe the cutoff height is 48" and most children at the age of 10 are taller than 48". I'll be paying full price for my 6 year old at KI next year, so 10 isn't too bad. -
Cedar Fair Reports Q1 Results
KIfan1980 replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
My quick reaction to the above (I'm not an investment adviser so don't see this as advice), - Generic statements, but factual - CF is not in imminent danger like the company formerly known as SIX on the NYSE - Prepares investors for a weak year (this should not shock anyone) due to econcomy - Gives hope that choices made now plus an economic recovery will enable CF to be a good investment in the future Stock dropped 2% today while market was only slightly down and moved only after the conference call. This would likely mean that the institutional investors had misgivings. You may love the parks - I wouldn't recommend investing in the stock. -
If you don't know what opened at KI the year you were born, try the timeline link (KICentral is much more than just forums - there's also useful information!) Timeline

I'm not normally a marathon rider as I prefer to trade off ride experiences so I've gone to what I call "bouncing" - think DB/Beast/DB/Beast/etc. Last year I also did the Flight Deck/SoB bounce a few times and have been known to do a Vortex/Racer bounce.
-
I also will be spending much of the day with my mom - although for portions of the day, she'll be watching the kids in Nick U while I'm in the Diamonback line. Seriously, for $10 take her to KI for the day!
-
That might have been me. Was at KI Saturday afternoon for just a few hours and rode rides 71-75 that day. Would have had more but had Bat Mitzvah to attend in the morning and a dinner at night. So now the obvious attempt to figure out was it you? First Rider T-shirt, asked for front seat but was told no so I think we rode in row 7, we talked about how we both think the second hill is the best part of the ride?
-
Sweet photos - my favorite is the one you posted into this topic. I found it surprising that you can't see Diamondback in the one from the front entrance.
-
I'm still in the single digits, but on Saturday afternoon rode with someone who has been marathoning Diamondback and was on ride 73 (he was hoping to be over 100 by the end of Sunday). I hope to hit 100 sometime this season.

Agree to needing a better option, as there is an additional problem that we found out yesterday - the ink gets everywhere (don't cross your arms before washing your hands).
