SIX FLAGS FILES BANKRUPTCY--CHAPTER 11
KIfan1980 replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Actually, the bankruptcy itself (or final phase of financial restructuring) releives much of the debt load (deleveraging of the Company's balance sheet by approximately $1.8 billion) is the way that was written. What this looks like to me is actually a good chance for Six Flags to regroup and come out stronger. Those who get hurt are the debt holders and likely many many small suppliers to Six Flags who will not be getting what's due them. -
I've heard several people in lines say that Diamondback was designed with a loop but they decided not to install it. I usually just roll eyes at "darnest things" comments because its so hard to get people to believe facts!

GREAT AMERICA (CA): What now?
KIfan1980 replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Measure is Market Cap(italization). Yahoo! Finance cites the Market Cap of FUN as $645.72M at market close today. But that ratio of Debt to Market Cap can't be a good thing. -

Oh thank you Terpy for sharing your great wisdom with us I don't know why we all don't read/interpret what you say better. -
But you see, in that video, there are trim brakes - they are just a different style (skid then, magnetic now). The magnetic just makes the ride feel different - quick hit of a brake versus a long ride on a brake. They are also located in all the same places that they exist today I think (first lift hill drop, second hill, brake shed, second lift hill drop enterring double helix). And if you want to test if they take the same amount of speed out, take a look at how far up the second lift hill that video shows a train going and compare it to what happens now (it's about the same - just past what I assume is an evacuation area).

Sparky - I'm glad that you decided to return to KI and have respect for you that you posted the original thread and this one. The thing that struck me in your post is the BLSC comment. As I think about my trips to the park, I often skip BLSC when I do the round trip - yet I can't say as I've made a decision that I don't like it (in fact I do think I've enjoyed it the couple of times I have ridden it). Could it be subconcious bitterness that some old favorites that used to sit in its place are no longer there or listening to the haters? Either way, I'll have to make an effort next trip to try it again.

And while at KI on Saturday, I was thinking how empty it was for a Saturday since so many people were at CP. Not that I was complaining.
-
No - I still get the site and webcam to show up.

Sorry I didn't get specific enough for you! Seriously, what makes the right side and the brown train better for you. I've noticed no difference in train color (except random seats that seem tighter at the line than others), but actually prefer the left side as I think it feels more forceful (especially in valley between the second and third hills).
-
I'd be interested to know how you only waited 10 minutes for the very last car of the day - I'll assume you were excited and lost track of time (I was but a couple of trains ahead of you and the wait was longer) Thanks to you and the rest of the hard-working crew. Keep up the great work. This is so true - the line never stops and the crew works hard to get the trains out full and fast.
-
Actually, the correct Terpy answer is ... Yes.

I'm with you Indyguy - there have been several times when I've started the hike with every intent to ride Flight Deck, but stopped and ridden something else instead because it is just so far away - and I like the ride.

A couple from today: - Beast: the two ride ops at the front of the train this evening were doing a "seat belt, lap bar" dance (hysterical) to try and help folks get the idea of buckling the seat belt first. They even threatened to have a rider dance along if they screwed it up (one person did, but I think he actually volunteered). They were having fun, especially the one on the mic who was interacting with people all the time. - Diamondback: while not necessarily funny, during my first ride today, the ride op on the mic was trying to get people to help ensure faster releases. He would start with the 35 second countdown and would keep encouragin people to move faster. Reason I liked it - it was working well.

While eating dinner at Juke-Box Diner today, my son asked "why do they have targets on the wall". I responded with "no, those are records" before the obvious "what are records?" question came out. I started to respond before saying "never mind" and spent the next several minutes thinking about how many songs I have or had in all of the following formats: 45, Record, Cassette, CD, MP3.

Haven't seen a poll on this and wanted to see what everyone was thinking. For me, my favorite is row 16 (airtime and the pull plus getting wet), but when I'm not there, I can't tell the difference between inside and outside seats. In addition, I think the ride has some great experiences in all seats - the view down the first hill from up front is great and the smooth airtime you get in the middle of the train rocks also.

I think KI and the Diamondback ride ops are really starting to make the SRL work well based upon my experience today (a not too busy Saturday at the park). During my 5 rides (4 from SRL), I saw: - A security guard roaming the queue often and stopping two separate line jumpers - SRL take longer than the main queue as the seat assigner was following the stand-by only protocol (25 min line) - Ride ops looking for a group of two from the main queue before assigning Single Riders to the last rows of a train when there was a large group I think they are learning and improving - got to give them credit!

So after reading this thread yesterday, I decided to be more friendly and get my picture taken with the kids today! I'll have to go look online for it though as I forgot to check before leaving.

I'll say it again - what should be added food wise isn't a new restaurant and isn't better/healthier food (although I wouldn't complain about that either). What should be added is ACCURATE and UP-TO-DATE food allergy information about the food currently available at Kings Island. When I ran into Don Helbig last weekend, he told me they are working on it, so I'm optimistic, but won't be spending many nickels until I see it. Other parks can do it (Holiday World and Silver Dollar City are good examples) - I'm hoping KI will too.
-
And it is even longer (time-wise) this year with the incredible slow climb up the first hill. I know its the blocking scheme, but it drives me crazy.
-
Maybe KI could pay the Gold Pass lot attendant based upon how many non-Gold Pass cars they turn around to wake some of them up.

Well - I see we all listened well to the first post in this thread! So here are my thoughts. First, I agree with Gator - before lurking on KIC, I don't think I worried as much about trims as I do now. I blame the infamous 2008 Trim Brake Debate (Featuring Dare-to-Fly, Gordon Bombay, and The Interpreter) for this but don't hold it against any of you.The big issues for me are: The impact that magnetic trims have on the ride experience versus what the old skid trims had. It just didn't feel as bad when you were slowed down over a longer distance. I know magnetic trims are more efficient, lower maintenance, and more reliable - it doesn't make them better The fact that trims are "always on" - the technology exists that could trim a ride only if a "safe" speed was being exceeded versus trimming every train. Ride Ops will tell you that without any adjustment to trims, speeds can vary wildly on The Beast depending upon day/ time/ weather/ other factors. Why trim if the speed doesn't require it? The use of MCBR as trims. Some people seem to give a pass to the MCBR being used as a trim because MCBR's are blocking devices necessary for Safety. If this is the case, use them as such to either stop the train or let the train fly depending upon whether the preceeding train has cleared the next block I feel better now, but would feel even better if I could get some trims detuned on The Beast (2nd hill and old MCBR shed).

Really - they work on commission? Wow - that really surprises me.

Going to Holiday World
KIfan1980 replied to McSalsa's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Hmmm - I had been wondering why in other posts you seemed to like Holiday World, and the park, and the rides, and Pat Koch, but also seemed to indicate you'd not go back. -
Strickers Grove's Teddy Bear
KIfan1980 replied to ZosoBeast's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Awesome video - some of my favorite amusement park memories are captured in the photos of the kids (currently 5 and 3) enjoying rides (first FOC on-ride photo, FOC photo taken from JN Atom Smashers line, Swiper's Sweepers). Your post also reminded me that I wanted to confirm the opening dates of Stricker's Grove so I could get one on the calendar (I haven't been and was hoping to make it this year). The following link takes you to their website, but the interesting things was it shows 3 public open days this year - 4th of July and 2nd Sunday in August as usual - Also Labor Day. The normal 3rd day has typically been in October from what I understand which leaves the question: have they moved customer appreciation day or will they have 4 Public days this year? http://www.strickersgrove.com/Events.aspx
