I am not going to let CP get me this year. I will get excited or not only after they make their announcement. Lightning won't be striking me twice.

Millennium, I have never been able to see what so many find so endearing about Phonix. I have ridden it on 4 seperate visits to Knoebels and for me it only has a few pops of air but nothing more then Racer does. Can you explain what makes it good enough to put into your top 5? I am not trying to be antagonistic, just trying to understand what all the fuss that this coaster gets.

It has been over a year since I first answered this and things my list has changed considerably since then. As you can see in my signature Bizarro at SFNE is by far my favorite coaster. It is near perfection. So my current list goes like this Wood 1 Voyage HW 2 El Toro SFGAdv 3 Prowler 4 Ravine Flyer II 5 Cyclone SFNE Honorable mention to Thunderhead DW, Thunderbolt KW, Evel Knievel SFStl & Lightning Racer HP. Steel 1 Bizarro SFNE 2 Millennium Force CP 3 Maverick CP 4 Diamondback KI / Intimidator CarW 5 Raptor CP Honorable mention to Nitro SFGAdv, Mindbender SFOG, Goliath SFOG, Goliath La Ronde, Behemoth CanW, Afterburn CarW, Magnum XL200 CP & Fahrenheit HP.

SFGAd ChangING
DaveStroem replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I could see a green lantern theme for chang. -
Cincyman98, there are still 4 more parks to go.
-
We did ride Ka in the front row that morning. Not only did Elizabeth get to ride 14 coasters on her 14th birthday, but so did mom. She have become quite the ride warrior.
-
Terpy, you just a few more minutes to wait. Kevin, I use coaster-count.com and they do have traveling coasters. You have to know what company is providing the rides. At the OSF it was Amusements of America out of NJ and Belle City out of FL.

Naked Roller Coaster Record Smashed
DaveStroem replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I don't know what video you were watching, but there were plenty of women participating. A few were even good looking. -
I don't think we are disagreeing at all on the Re-Mix. I could easily see someone passing out on it. It was kind of like riding a blender.

Unlike most of our coaster trips, today we slept in and didn't leave the house till after 10:00 am. We could do this since we only had a short drive to the Ohio State Fair in Columbus. This was the last day of the fairs run and it was also Pepsi day. When you brought a Pepsi product to their booth outside the gates, they would give you vouchers to get in to the fair for $3. It had been years since I have been to the fair and figured that we would buy a few ride tickets for the coasters, do a few other fair things and leave early. When we started to look at how huge the midway was we quickly decided to splurge for the $22 wristbands. I have never seen such a collection of Hi Thrill flat rides gathered in one spot. I could also tell that they were not running in normal tame park mode but in full out crazy extreme mode. There were also over a dozen walk through fun houses and a few dark rides too. While these are not worth the $2 per person fee, they were a lot of fun when you have a wristband. We opted not to bring the big camera so all our photos came from my phone. It was quite difficult to shoot on this sunny day. Love me some Rock-O-Planes. Ring of Fire was a lot of fun but a little bit tight fit with KICoasterGirl and myself in one seat. This Re-Mix was called Extreme Adrenaline Rush and it lived up to its name. This was by far the most extreme flat ride I have ever been on. My legs were tingling from the G-forces for 10 min after we got off. I love the Top Scan (shockwave) at Canada's Wonderland, little did I know that Space Roller would be so much more extreme then the one at CW. Since we had wristbands we rode the kiddie coasters too. This gives you an idea as to how large the midway is. The area in front is Giant Slide and the kiddie area with the thrill rides extending from the large Ferris wheel way past the Drop Tower. This was my favorite ride of the day. The double Ferris wheel loads one wheel while the other is spinning on the top, then both wheels spin as the support arms spin. Wild ride. KICoasterGirl getting ready for Pig Race that would start in a Snort time. And there off. They had 3 races with different types of pigs. After the pig races we rode the last of the 4 coasters that were open. There was also a Go Gator kiddie coaster, but I don't think it ever opened. After riding the Dragon coaster we hooked up with Stalker Chick and Jack for the rest of the evening. Avalanche was once Firecracker at Holiday World and Cyclone at Geauga Lake. It was the best coaster at the fair IMO. The line was too long for Power Surge, but they are quite photogenic. I had never ridden a Zipper before. This too was running in extreme mode with a long cycle. Just when we thought we were done, they ran it in reverse for just as long. At this time my phone/camera was dying and we were just about done for the day. So we headed out and had a nice dinner with Stalker Chick and Jack at D&B. Rides in the Thrill Section Wave Swinger Ring of Fire Extreme Adrenaline Rush Avalanche x2 Tip Top Fireball Rock-o-plane Crazy Mouse Yo-Yo Space Roller Zipper Inverter Tilt-a-Whirl (epic) Rides in the Kiddie Section Wacky Worm Dragon Coaster Barrel of Monkeys Giant Slide (Katy & Nancy did this while Elizabeth & I did Inverter) Dbl Ferris Wheel x2 We also did most all of the fun houses Food: $1 hotdogs from a vendor that got the fact that you can make money selling something cheap and selling a lot of it. Cheese Sandwiches, Ice Cream & shakes from the Dairy Building Roast Corn MMMMMM

1 millionth ride of the season. -
SFGAd ChangING
DaveStroem replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I was not impressed with Georgia Scorcher. I thought that Chang was by far the best of those that I have ridden. (missing the Cali ones). It might have been that Chang was the best coaster at KK when we were there (twins were closed) and GS was just one of many good to great coasters at SFOG. Mindbender was the one that surprised me the most. -
Rye Playland Could Close
DaveStroem replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I have read on another site that Rob Astorino has been trying to get rid of Playland for years. The park has landmark status and is on the list of National Historical places. At least 5 of its rides have landmark status as well. I hope that it does not close. In the mean time, it has risen in my priority of parks to go to next year. -
Nick, I think your just burned out on KI. New parks that we have not visited often can have a much higher rating in our minds because of the newness.

Wow, I never thought about comparing these two parks, but they are probably the 2 that are the most similar of the 40+ parks we have been too. B&M Hypercoaster Diamondback vs. Raging Bull Flying Coaster Firehawk vs. Superman Ultimate Flight Racing Woodies The Racer vs. American Eagle Signature Woodies The Beast vs. Viper "Short" Inverted Coasters Invertigo vs. V2 Vertical Velocity Dark Indoor Coasters Flight of Fear vs. Dark Knight Compact Steel Coasters (I got this idea because the track style appears similar...) Backlot Stunt Coaster vs. Whizzer Looping Steel Coasters Vortex vs. Demon Family Steel Coaster (If only SFGA had a Mine Train...) Adventure Express vs. Ragin' Cajun Inverted/Suspended Coasters Flight Deck vs. Batman The Ride Drop Ride Drop Tower vs. Giant Drop Defunct Coasters King Cobra vs. Shockwave Didn't ride Shockwave The "Unliked" Coasters Son of Beast vs. Iron Wolf (I have heard people complain about B&M Standups...) Vally Fair Expansion for 2011
DaveStroem replied to LongliveKingsCobra's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
14 new rides is a bunch even if they are all kiddie rides. -
I enjoyed EK, but not as much as Prowler. We only got to ride Boss once last year, I hope to get back to SFSTL this year for a few more laps.
-
Can you bring in a tripod? I love night shots at the parks and the best ones IMO are long exposures of moving objects. While they can be done hand held, they are much easier to do with a tripod.

FUN 2010 Q2 Results
DaveStroem replied to PhantomTheater's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
On our 14 park trip, we ate at the car for most of our meals. The exceptions were the parks with reasonable food prices. When we were at MiA a few weeks ago it was like a tailgate party in the parking lot. -
Great PTR. I love going to parks with my kids just like I can tell that you do too. Thanks for sharing.

Darien Lake Ride of Steel CLOSED
DaveStroem replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
When we were at Darien Lake last year they only were running 1 train on ROS. I spoke with the ride manager and was told that they were using the 2nd train for parts. I was also told by another enthusiast that I trust that Parc has had problem getting parts from Intamin. Something about them liking to get paid for what the parts they have already been shipped before sending more. -
We were there on Sunday too. Everything seemed to have had trouble waking up. Maverick was about 15 minutes late opening. I think Millie was late too.
