TG93 SixFlags Great Adventure PTR
DaveStroem replied to TOPGUN1993's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
We rode GASM a little over a week ago and it was much smoother then I remember it from last year. KICoasterGirl staid at home to work on the PTR. I doubt that she will make it through SFGAdv today though. -
I Am Taking a Great Adventure
DaveStroem replied to KI Kevin's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Superman is often a long wait because it is a slow loader. When you get to the station row 2 is often a shorter wait since so many people go for row 1. El Toro's station is a nightmare. It always seems to be a bottle neck getting onto the station platform. Keep heading to the back, it is almost always a much shorter wait for the back and when we were there was walk on while the front half was 2-3 train wait or more. Single use lockers are good for 120 minutes, but the timers were screwed up when we were there. They would time out early. Make sure you get back at 110 minutes. -
Coasting for Kids is coming to Kings Island July 29th

What are the rest of you doing to get the word out about this event? I just sent out a press release to my local newspapers and radio stations. I am also putting up a poster on my counter at the shop with a donation jar. I am making up some business cards with the donation website on them so I can hand those out to people that want to donate online. -
Derik, I know we got lucky. It was great riding it once with it working but not having to endure it for every lap. The volume the time we did hear it was not too loud at all. Maybe they turned down the volume.

Millennium, the POVs don't show the whole story. Bizzaro is incredible, yea,but their Cyclone is now one of my top ten woods. Batman was a blast. Pandemonium was wicked awesome and much more intense then the other 3 similar coasters I have been on. SFNE has a great line up of coaster and Bizzaro by itself is worth the trip alone, the rest are just icing on the cake. PT we only head the sound track for one lap and it came on once just before the second tunnel. The fire was off both days which was fine since the temp got up to 102.

The restraints on Bizarro are quite tight. Not because of my belly though. Not even the size of my thighs. It is because of the length of my lower legs. The seats have you folded up a bit causing U-bar to sit on you thighs which are not tight to the seat. Even with being stapled a bit, we got masive ejector air.

After spending most of the day at Great Escape we got to SFNE at 8:30. We headed straight to bizzaro and got two laps in including the last train of the night. OMG this ride is incredible. IMO it blows away every other coaster I have ridden. Think the fast feeling of MF with the electors air of Maggie and the non inversion twists of Maverick. This coaster is perfect other than the station is a total cluster. We will be back to SFNE tomorrow for the entire day.

Holiday World Questions
DaveStroem replied to CincyMan98's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
One other thing to consider is that the coaster club price is $26.95. If you look at the cost to join some of the coaster clubs that they honor, you can save $$$ and belong to the club. -
Holiday World I-Phone App
DaveStroem replied to Colonel_SoB_fan's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
I am hoping that they get this full function app for Android. I have a feeling that in less then a year, Android will be much bigger then Iphones. -
Holiday World 2011
DaveStroem replied to Diamondback96's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
It seems much smaller when you compare that to $10.5 million for Shoot the Rapids. -
Yes they are a bit painful, but they are so interesting to look at. As Terpy said, they are NOTHING like Firehawk. Comparing the two would be like a baby being rocked in it's mothers arms and mosh pit.

When I click on a link, it opens in in the current window. Is there a way to set it so it opens in a new tab? I know that I can R-click and open it in a new tab, but I often forget to do that. Thanks.

My wife got her very first ride on The Beast a couple of weeks go. Last year she wouldn't even ride racer and now she has even taken multiple laps on Voyage (her 50th different coaster). Our up coming trip has over 80 coasters that she has not been on.

The link I posted above http://www.gktw.org/howToHelp.asp?a=3&page=currentPromotions which takes you to this http://www.firstgiving.com/process/raisemoney/default.asp?did=1785&skip=home. -
On the original topic for anyone else going, go to Flight Deck and Time Warp (if you decide to ride it) first. Most everyone will be heading to Behemoth. I have also been told that BLSC can back up pretty badly too. We will be there this coming Sunday.

Just got news, that the $50 is not needed to get registered, but is the minimum that is needed to be raised for participation. I would give them a day or so to make the changes if you can't put up the full $50 up front. -

DaveStroem replied to DaveStroem's topic in Kings Island
Nope, not at all. It started last year with Jeff from CoasterBuzz working on a lot of the details, but like last year, everyone is welcome to register. We had about 30 people last year (would have been more, but it was held after school started) and raised over $10,000 for Give Kids the World, I would love to see the total event raise over $100,000 this year. -

This is not an endurance test. You can ride as much as you want during the day. Last year on Gemini, I rode 88 laps while some rode for all 129. They provided breakfast and lunch for us too. Please remember this is about raising funds for a a charity. -
Details here I participated in Coasting for Kids in 2009 at Cedar Point. We marathoned one side of Gemini for over 8 hours and had a blast doing it. This year Cedar Fair and Give Kids the World have expanded the event to include all 11 of their amusement parks. The registration is $50 per person and includes admission to the park. Participants can set up a fund raising web page and encourage others to pledge additional funds. The details are still a little light as to which coasters we will be marathoning, but my guess at KI would be Racer since they can close one side of the ride for the event and keep the other side open for the public. So what is Give Kids the World anyways? Give Kids the World Village is a 70-acre resort complete with over 140 Villa accommodations, entertainment attractions, whimsical venues, and fun specifically designed for children with special needs. Organizations like Make-A-Wish send their wish kids here as they are set up to handle the needs of these families and allow them to concentrate on having fun and making memories. As fans of amusement parks, what better charity could there be for us to get behind. The fact that we get to ride coasters is just a bonus. There Mission is As I get more details I will post them

I used to only shoot kodachrome. Now the only kind of slides these kids know about are the type you put your butt on.
-
Not as bad as last year at Coastermania, but yes you could still feel them hitting your arms. We never did a front seat ride for that very reason.

I was OK with it. I wanted to lap TTD, but there were probably 4-500 people at the TTD queue. With almost 100 people per cycle of the trains I figured to have gotten 3-4 more laps in, maybe a few more. I have done Maverick ERTs many many times considering that it is an ERT every morning and a favorite for the events. They may reschedule a TTD ride night or combine it with their next one. I wish that KI would do a few of these.
