I wouldn't say 5 times better. Bizarro at SFNE is by far my #1 coaster. Voyage and El Toro are #1 & #2 woodies and #2 & #3 overall. I still have to give the edge to Voyage though. My front row night ride on the Ravage train sealed the deal. I also think I give the edge because of my size and the tight restraints on El Toro. While I fit (barely) the intense airtime throws my body up and then back down with my belly slamming on the top of the lap bar. I guess that I have Dunloplapbar Disease (Where your belly dun lops over the lap bar)

Glad you had fun at Great Adventure. Nick, if your going on your great adventure in September, you might consider going for Riding of the Bulls on Sept 18th. I am considering it this year.

We were at MA recently as well. My first ride on ST was just meh. Later in the day I guess the ride woke up and delivered some excellent air time. We never got to ride the mouse as it was closed all day long.

TIME IS RUNNING OUT! Give the Kids the World
DaveStroem replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Kings Island
Well it was supposed to have rained all day yesterday according to weather.com. I think that the weather.coms and the like have seriously hurt amusement park attendance. If you look at those to plan your trips they seem to wrong more then they are correct. -
We meet him in Rivertown. He was just there with his family like anybody else. I was very impressed with how friendly he was. He posted on my wall for us to meet him at Drop Tower, but we were at Wendy's and missed the opportunity to ride with Bert.

TylerRider, Yes make out checks to Give Kids The World. -
Sounds like fun. My favorite at the park is Lightning Racer. I find it amazing that it is also the coaster that has the shortest waits.

As Terpy mentioned, We all have Six Flags Season Passes and I have Parking on mine. We also have Cedar Fair Platinum passes which get us into all of those parks. Kennywood we got tickets from AAA at $22.95 ea Waldameer evening wristbands were $16 Canada's Wonderland CF Platinum Pass LaRonde SF Season Pass Great Escape SF Season Pass Six Flags New England SF Season Pass Lake Compounce $26.95 at Costco Coney Island Cyclone $8 for the first ride and $5 for a re-ride Luna Park came out to be $12 worth of tickets. For that we rode both coasters and Air Race. Elizabeth & I also rode Brooklyn Flyer and I still have $5 on my Luna Park card Six Flags Great Adventure SF Season Pass Morey's Pier $45. We were there for Coastin' by the Ocean enthusiasts event which got us wristbands for 2 days, $10 food voucher, T-Shirt, MANY sessions of ERT including extreme rides like Sky Coaster, Sling Shot, Extreme Swing, Sky Scrapper & Go Karts, all you can eat buffet with Shrimp, Fried Chicken, Chicken Tenders, Vegi Lasagna & Roasted Corn on the Cob etc..... Dorney Park CF Platinum Pass Knoebels about $12 worth of tickets which got us on all the coasters, Flyers, Looper, Satellite, Skotter Bumper Cars & the Carousel. Del Grossos $3 for the 2 coasters. So we got all of these in for $151 per person. Of course this did not count the hotels, food, gas, souvenirs etc......

McSalsa, just for information sake, Great Escape it in Northern New York not far from the Canadian boarder. As we headed south after our Great Escape, we went to Six Flags New England and Lake Compounce before heading farther south to Brooklyn and the Coney Island Cyclone.

I am sorry you thought that Canyon Blaster was boring. I quite enjoyed it. I would even go so far as to say it is the 2nd best mine ride I have been on. BTMRR at Disney is by far the best. Mine rides for me are not about the thrill as much as the theme. It is easy to pick on parks. Sure Great Escape does not have the top thrill rides, but a park can be much more then just thrills. This park had a lot of charm and made for a fun day. My favorite park from this trip (PTR to come) just has average coasters and most of the flats were nothing special. The vibe at the park and the surrounding area made me feel like a kid.

Lemon Chill vs. Pink Thing
DaveStroem replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Fun read, I will have to remember to get a pink thing when we go to SFOT. -
Nice PTR. Mamba and Steel Force for that matter could be so much more if it weren't for the mid-course biting so hard. When we rode it last year the bunny hills that I would imagine could be like Magnums, were little more then a kiddie coasters.
-
Nice PTR, I wish I could have been there with you...............Oh wait I was there. KICoasterGirl mentioned our lunch at the park. While still expensive, it was quite good and the pasta was cooked to order. It took about 5 minutes to get our food all of that time we could see them preparing it in a some what open kitchen. It was also a lot of food. The 4 of us split 3 entries and all were well satisfied. I really liked Le Monstre especially the left course or Parcours 2. It had some decent air and incredible head choppers. I rode it alone for the last train of the night and got a bonus re-ride. Half of the female crew of the ride took off their park shirts and rode with us. While Goliath may not be over 200 ft, it was still a blast. It was missing a helix but had a turnaround unlike any other B&M that I have ridden. On Ednor, I was hoping for the newer style restraints like one of the other SLCs that we rode on this trip. This one though required you to wear your shoes/flip flops.

I wonder if they could pull off an amusement pier? When we were at Morey's, Jack Morey was talking about how they were noticing that other parks were adding boardwalk areas. They have a real board walk, there is no comparison.
-
At Morey's Pier they have a flume ride that part of it goes beneath the boardwalk. It is themed and has music playing ... you guessed it "under the boardwalk" it was perfect.

You don't need a GFP to have a good time. If you watch the time that you go you can avoid a lot of crowds. If you have to go on weekends, the ones that fall before or after a holiday seem to be lower crowds. We were at SFGAdv on July 9th which was the Friday following the 4th of July weekend. Most things were a 1-2 train wait. Last year we went to Busch Gardens the Saturday before the 4th of July and just about walked on to everything. I was told that by noon they only had 5000 guests in the park. Of course predicting how crowded a park may or may not be a year in advance it pure craziness. If the economy gets better you would think that the parks would be busier too.
-
No, it is an electronic device that you rent for the day. You have to leave your license or season pass to check it out. When I looked at them at SFNE the price for the 5 of us would have been around $300 or $60 each. Luckily we didn't need them at any of our park visits.
-
I still am undecided about the Ka vs TTD. Ka's launch felt so much more powerful then TTD. I like the rest of TTD better and the hump didn't even give me an uplift let alone airtime. As to the GFP, we have done it both ways. On our first trip I cherished it just like you did, on our trip a few weeks ago it would have been a total waist of money. Toro's line never made it past the stairs. Most things were station waits. IMO those that are going in the future and are considering buying a FP should try to get a fell for the crowd before putting down the cash for the FP. Some days it is not needed. Glad you had a Great Adventure.

We were on that ride the day before. As to the statement, what is a ride op supposed to tell a 12 year old boy? Aren't the park employees trained to basically shut up when it comes to ride issues? I think any further comment by the op, would have been above her pay grade. The story doesn't say if she contacted her ride manager, but I believe that she took the issue seriously enough to call maintenance and have the ride shut down the rest of the day. I am glad that everyone was OK.
-
When we were there a few weeks ago, many of the employees didn't even know that the park was closing at 9:00. My guess is that it is a cost cutting measure. If you take all the employees that would be normally working till park close at 10:00 PM and cut 1 hour a day from their paychecks you would save a decent amount of dollars. I doubt that any of the GP would cancel a trip because of that hour. They many not be happy about it, but not so much to stop going. What does baffle me though is closing the shops and food stands right at 9:00 pm. Even the ones by the entrances. There are still tons of people in the park at closing and many want something to eat or drink before they go home. I wanted to get a T-shirt on my way out so I wouldn't have to locker it all day long. But the shops were closed and I guess no longer wanted my $$.
-
Yes you do. Imagine Diamondback's long floater air feeling like Magnum's ejector air. The only down side to the ride is the audio. When we were there it only worked a few times and even then it was intermittent. I have been told that in the past it was also much louder.
-
Nick, I think Nancy only sat out 2-3 coasters the entire trip. Her count is now 145 including the 2 tallest & fastest operating rides on the planet. She is now demanding that we go back to some of the parks we did last year so she can ride the coasters there. What ever you say dear
-
I agree that it is as close to coaster perfection as any ride I have been on. It too is my #1.
-
You didn't mention that on Lil Phantom that our trip took over the ride for the 2 laps. There were 5 of us and 5 cars. Everybody rode by themselves. There is a certain joy in riding kiddie coasters for me. First that they let me on and second that I still fit.
