A week or so ago, Son of Beast closed down and has yet to re-open, and will possibly remain closed for some time. The park is not responding and thus we have no idea why the coaster is shut down. So...of the choices above, what do you think caused SOB to close? PS: Some of the above choices are for comedy. But still.

Roller Coaster Tycoon is the easiest, but NoLimits is the best as far as realism is concerned. Almost any existing, or even former roller coaster can be built in No Limits, and then rode. I have seen some awesome coasters on youtube made with NoLimits. I also tried the demo and the recreations of rides such as the Crystal Beach Cyclone are amazingly well done. But I doubt I could ever make a coaster using the program. But you can create one in RCT then import it into No Limits.

Texas Giant to Recieve Overhaul
McSalsa replied to McSalsa's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Sorry, I forgot the date of this article when I made this poll, this is old news...but not that old, only a few months. -
http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dw...t.3f612dd1.html The Texas Giant as SFOT is getting some serious work after the 2009 season to both increase the ride's speed and decrease roughness. It will re-open in 2011. Bonus Poll Question : Son of Beast is known to be very rough. Will it also eventually get a total overhaul?

Oh, I can handle the Spider Rides. I like them a good bit. But why theme one to Paul Revere? That's kinda weird. But alas, weird can sometimes be good.
-
Hmm...I probably shouldn't overlook the flatrides either, though. Any of them at Holiday World stand out? I know of Liberty Launch, which looks fun. And they have a bunch of classic flatrides like the Spider Ride, Scrambler, Tilt-A-Whirl...wait, I just figured it out myself. I should ride some of those timeless classics. And that's NOT counting the water rides.
-
That is what truly matters. I doubt there is a ride in ANY park that has zero people who like it.
-
OK, 2 awesome wooden coasters in Voyage & Raven. Those alone justify the price of admission. Heck, Voyage alone does that. Sounds like Holiday World is going to be AWESOME. Could it get any better? (Remembers the free drinks) It just did.
-
Thanks for the advice, but I'm pretty sure we're going on a weekend...I'll see if we can go on a weekday, however. And if Voyage makes Beast a "snooze fest", It will easily become my new #1 coaster! I've seen POV videos on youtube and such, it does look awesome. I can't believe wooden roller coasters managed to go sideways! But what about Raven & Legend...

Hello everybody! I just found out earlier today that a friend of mine(yeah, I went to KI with him, rode The Beast at Night with him)is taking me to Holiday World with me later this month (June 2009). I simply want to know: -Are the 3 big wooden roller coasters as good as I have heard? -Will Voyage surpass Beast and become my new #1 coaster? -How long are the lines at Holiday World, compared to Kings Island? -What rides, apart from the coasters, are worth riding? -Where is the best food at HW? That's about it. Thanks for any advice. And I will post a trip report when I return!

Wow...I overlooked that. Silly me. I expected at least a few non-ultra thrill ride lovers...then again, I don't think anyone can ride mega-thrill ride after mega-thrill ride non-stop all day...can they?
-
My latest poll asks what level of thrills you perfer in your rides. Here are some examples for the levels, to help you out: Level 1- The gentlest of gentle, such as The Grand Carosuel or some of the weakest Nick-U rides. Level 2- Gentle Rides such as the Eiffel Tower, or some of the normal kids rides at Nick-U. Level 3- Thrill Rides that while thrilling do not induce mega-thrills. Monster, Scrambler, Shake Rattle & Roll...this category applies mostly to the classic flatrides. Level 4- Big Thrill Rides that deliver the thrills and could scare little kids. Stuff like Flight Deck, The Racer, etc. fall into this category. Level 5- The meanest, biggest, baddest thrill rides in the world! The Beast, Son of Beast, Vortex, Delirium, Flight of Fear, Diamondback...that stuff. Me: Before my May 16th visit to KI, I would have rode Level 3 rides. But after, I now seek as close to Level 5 as possible!

Big Dipper @ Geauga Lake
McSalsa replied to McSalsa's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Probably. Which is sad. Sadder still, one day, there will be no more roller coasters because we will all be gone. The ones we have now, even if left standing, will rot/rust and eventually collapse. There will be no Beast. No Millennium Force. No TTD. No Kingda Ka. No Incredible Hulk. No Voyage. No El Toro. No (Insert Coaster Name Here). Not even books about coasters will exist. That will be a sad day. Thankfully, that day is still years and years away...I hope. -
Big Dipper @ Geauga Lake
McSalsa replied to McSalsa's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
One beacon of hope for this coaster- in 2008, the ride suffered some minor damage. It was quickly repaired. Not something someone does to a coaster about to be demolished, that would be a waste of time and money. -
OK...here is the new section of Big Dipper. Now in correct area of website. What will happen to Big Dipper? Many are concerned. It will be hard to move. Most of GL's steel coasters got that treatment, including our very own X-Fl...I mean our own Firehawk, and KD's Dominator, to name a few. But Big Dipper is wooden. A classic wooden coaster in fact, which is why we are concerned. I can see Cedar Fair opening this ride as a standalone ride, charging $1 or so per ride, but am not sure if they even own it anymore. Or is Big Dipper going to meet all his old wooden (and some steel) buddies in coaster heaven? So many questions...

Coastermania: Kings Island in the Late 80s/Early 90s
McSalsa replied to McSalsa's topic in Kings Island
Just watched The Racer video again, and I noticed that there is no Vortex in it, yet a giant slide is visible. So this has to be before Vortex, 1986 or earlier. -
Well, I wasn't planning on throwing another one of these down for a few more days, but after viewing "What's Up On The Island Episode 4" I thought this would be a good time to throw down The Vortex poll. My Thoughts on Vortex? Good, Some Pain, Have Yet To Ride SOB for comparison...
-
Yes. More seriously, the ride was becoming dated, the park wanted something newer and more thrilling, it had a very low capacity, the steps posed serious access issues that would sooner or later need to be addressed from several perspectives, and, perhaps most of all, the then owner of Camden Park offered them a very nice price for it... And, correct me if I am wrong, but Congo Falls stands there now. A pretty decent replacement.
-
Wow. It is really raining hard here in Indy, and there is a tornado threat. Kings Island is CLOSED today. I hope the people make it out OK...and then hope the same for all the rides.
-
I'd love a wooden terrain coaster with a 200ft. drop, multiple airtime hills and tunnels, 2 helixes (both in tunnels, ala Beast) made of high-quality pre-made wood, but with just a hint of roughness so you know it's a woodie myself...and if possible, one great loop somewhere in there. If it means using some steel to re-enforce the track, so be it, as long as it doesn't ruin the "woodie" feel. But the loop is optional. My favorite coaster in-park? The Beast, especially at night. I just love the tunnels at night.
-
All 3 of the coasters at Holiday World are very good from what I have heard. Voyage is ranked #1 in the world by many wooden coaster fans, Raven is a Top 10, and Legend is just outside the Top 10. I would ride all three if I ever went to HW.

Just tell them to try and keep the fire under control. We don't want a SOB bonfire destroying both Racer and Beast too...though I want to ride SOB before it gets destroyed, simply to see If I love/hate it first... ride the dang thing then... You'll Love it but sit in the 1st, 2nd or 3rd seat.... I would have rode it but for me KI trips are somewhat rare, and last time I went, it was broken down. As for "burning SOB down"...I was just kidding, if there are people who enjoy the ride, and there seem to be a few who do, keep it for them. Shorter lines for The Beast, DB, etc... What's bizzare is Son of Beast gets the most mixed reaction of any coaster I have ever seen. It's on "Best Coasters Ever" lists, "Worst Coasters Ever" lists, and everything in between!
-
Mine were phenomenal, no pain, and the only B&M Hyper I've been on. By the way, I believe you either meant Titan at SFOT (Which was manufactured by Giovanola) or Nitro at SFGAdv. Just an observation. Yeah, I did...I also didn't realize they weren't B&Ms, though they resemble them in appearance...which is how I was tricked.
