  1. (Breathes huge sigh of relief) PHEW. Well, that's good to know. (Notices someone trying to set Son of Beast on fire with matches) Uhh, that's not going to work dudes! PS: As for the trim brakes, it depends what kind of trims you are calling for...if it is to slow a coaster so it can do a loop/corkscrew/helix without excessive G forces, then fine. But if it's just to save a few pennies on maintenence...those I call bull. Though I actually thought stopping on Flight of Fear ADDED to the ride experience, because if I remember correctly, they played a sound effect when it happened.
  2. I meant all rides visible from SOMEWHERE in the park, and a good portion of the ride must be visible. The 3 that aren't selectable don't qualify for this. Hope this clears that up.
  3. And McSalsa returns with yet another poll. This time around, we are rating the coasters based on their looks. Face it- before you ride most roller coasters, you LOOK at them from afar. Perhaps from the Eiffel Tower. This poll will determine which of KI's coasters looks the best, and leaves you starting in awe (well, if a coaster can do that...). Quick FAQ: "Where are Beast, Flight of Fear, and Adventure Express?" Those rides are not visible from "normal" locations within the park, save Beast's lift hills. I decided to exclude him because we need to see more of a coaster than that. Adventure Express is buried in trees and Flight of Fear is INSIDE A BUILDING. If you don't like polls...you know the drill. My Pick: Sorry folks... Son of Beast Never rode it, but seeing that much wood stacked so high in the air is simply impressive just to stare at. Vortex is second, it looks great with its new "black-ish" and orange paintjob, and Diamondback also looks amazing. Racer comes in 4th, though it would be the winner if I were judging them from afar (it loses a LOT of points when you look closer and see the condition of the paint).
  4. OH NO NO NO!!! YOU'RE GONNA BURN IT DOWN (The WHOLE ride) YOU IDIOT!!!
  5. King Cobra closed end of 2000, Delirium opened 2003- two full seasons in-between with empty space. Bat closed sometime in 1982, Vortex opened 1987- a bit more than four full seasons. Wrong...King Cobra's last season was 2001. I knew that, just wasn't thinking and typed the wrong number The last year The Bat ran was 1982- it was closed mid-season: Article Wow. They left it standing until 1984 though. Wait a minute... 2010-Son of Beast...SBNO...to "make up" for this, Racer is turned backwards again... 2011-Son of Beast...SBNO... 2012-Son of Beast...finally removed... Assuming world does not end... 2013-Nothing there 2014-Construction on a new ride begins mid-season 2015-Gravity Group/Intamin Pre-Fab/CGI wooden hypercoaster opens 2020-People begin talking about "The Legend of Son of Beast"
  6. Make Son of Beast pre-fab, with steel supports, re-install the loop, add tunnels, and then erase everyone's memories of it and claim it as new for 2010! BWA HA HA HA!!!
  7. Wow, first I copy Terpy, now he does the same to me! The coaster I have ridden most, in spite of 2 trips to KI and only one to Indiana Beach, was the Hoosier Hurricane @ Indiana Beach. I was little kid and really enjoyed that coaster. I think I rode it 3-5 times in a row that day. That was a good day. I do hope, however, to get more than that in in the future. 100 Diamondback rides in a single hour...BWA HA HA!!! (Even though that's probably impossible, It would probably take at least 3 to do that!) PS: I REALLY need to visit more theme parks...look below. My numbers SUCK. But they can only go one way from here...up!
  8. King Cobra closed end of 2000, Delirium opened 2003- two full seasons in-between with empty space. Bat closed sometime in 1982, Vortex opened 1987- a bit more than four full seasons. Wrong...King Cobra's last season was 2001. Bat did not close in 1982. It ran from '81 until '84, and was removed before the start of the 1985 season (though it was closed most days while it ran). Vortex did indeed come 3 years later, in 1987. As for Delirium replacing King Cobra, that came a lot quicker, as King Cobra was actually still standing when the 2002 season started (not 100% sure, 90%, and it was not not shown on the park map that year) and was torn down during the 2002 season. Probably confused people who didn't know KI or visit it before. ("Mommy, why isn't that big green rollercoaster that's half buit on the map?" "It's probably what's new for 2003, honey..." Always tear rides down DURING THE OFFSEASON.
  9. I also looked up Cedar Point, and found it on a 2002 web page.
  10. That would be ironic as R.L. Stine, writer of the goosebumps books, wrote a book about a certain wooden roller coaster in the woods...do I even need to state its name? So, in a way, we already have one. PS: Terpy's gonna be mad because I just did something he would do...
  11. I have a video... Kings Island 2009 by Coasterimage.com They have a lot of good roller coaster videos and images. You should check out their web page.
  12. Well, 3 posts in a row...but I found something Gigacoaster 2k (aka Angie) might like. Someone please redirect her to this post for this image: I have a weird feeling this will be her new avatar...
  13. Oh! For all the Backlot Stunt Coaster fans, here is its promo page: http://web.archive.org/web/20041204222339/...ianjob/ij3.html Enjoy.
  14. I searched for web archives, and looked up Kings Island. This is what I found. http://web.archive.org/web/20000621120648/...://www.pki.com/ (Note: Some of you may be angry with what ride is just opening on this page...) For more... http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.pki.com Enjoy.
  15. Ouch. Never good when a park closes. Big-time parks seem safe for now, but what about the "little guys"? One newspaper headline I NEVER WANT TO READ: "Holiday World closing for good after 2011 season" or "Indiana Beach forced to close after 2010 season" or "Giant Tidal Wave oblitherates Cedar Point, Mean Streak somehow survives...everything else destroyed" OK, the last one was a bit of a joke...
  16. Ah, yes, the big finish. The last few seconds of your ride. Some coasters have it, giving one last huge thrill (or sometimes even a better one than the rest of the ride). Some don't, they may have great sections before the finale, but then they just get lame at the end. And thus we have this poll. Enjoy. As for me...while I loved the endings for Vortex, DB, and FOF...one coaster simply kills them all when it comes to a big finish... Beast's Helix! Especially at night. In this fairly recent KI Documentary "Riding History to the Limits" (you can look for the link around here somewhere), before Beast opened it was "test rode" (without brakes!) before the finale, and were so scared by it, that they had brakes installed before this point because they were afraid the train would explode out of the tunnel. Though the original brakes they had installed in '79 were less noticeable than what they have now... Makes me wonder...what that might have been like... Enjoy the poll. And if you don't like polls, why did you click this section!?!?
  17. Diamondback is so far ahead in my eyes as far as quality first drops on KI roller coasters go, it's ridiculous. It's such a mammoth drop and then add the feeling that you're gonna fly out. Second, would actually be Vortex's first drop thanks to its sheer size (I assume had I been able to ride Son of Beast it would have easily taken second place in drop status). Beast is third, only because we are using first drops and the legendary helix is at the end of the ride(and gets best finale in my book). Hmm...me gotsa an idea...
  18. And you now cannot ride it again, because Hydra showed up and killed it. McSalsa, rippin off Terpy...not because of hate, but...for no reason.
  19. Decent front seat rides with super high speeds? Just a suggestion...there are plenty of crazy rough coasters out there that hit all the "low marks" for roller coasters: "Hi, I'm freakishly rough, slow, and boring!" (McSalsa heads off to get TNT and Rockets...) At least SOB isn't slow...unless someone considers 78mph slow...
  20. LIMIT OF LOL ICONS SO... LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL!!!
  21. I haven't rode a coaster I dislike yet, but if I had to pick one, among those rides I can remember, I would have to pick...hmm, tough call between Flight Deck and Vortex, both at KI. Yet I would easily give both a 8/10. I have, however, only ridden about 10 coasters total...so...yeah, perhaps that explains why I haven't found one I dislike just yet!
  22. All right, my two cents on this matter- I think Cedar Fair made the correct move here. Nick simply wanted too much money. Imagine, for a moment, if they had paid that extreme amount of cash to re-sign? Son of Beast's removal would be a clear no-brainer(no money for an overhaul), or worse yet, they might not have the money to remove it (and it would be SBNO for a year or so, and a SBNO coaster can be an eyesore). No new attractions at all for 2010, and even 2011...then, the rides all start to rust & decay and there is not enough money to fix them all up and more rides are lost. Signing Snoopy, who were already with Cedar Fair's other parks and were charging far less, was the right call. I just hope they spend the money the right way. Now, kicking Scooby Doo out is a different matter. He was on ANOTHER deal, that DID NOT expire in 2009. Just so Snoopy can run without any competition (I would have loved to see Scooby & Snoopy share the park, for various reasons, though mostly irony). And there goes one of the last pieces of the original 1972 KI, and one of the characters who helped make the park popular. Losing Nick-U doesn't anger me, but this does...because if Scooby can go, what else is in danger? Are we going to see them tear down Racer? Eiffel Tower? Heck, even Beast (though it came 7 years later) might not be safe...although if they were going to tear this stuff, half (or more) of their fans would show up with weapons to defend it...or get it declared a NATIONAL landmark so they couldn't tear it down. (Actually, let's do that now...Dear Mr.President... ) Just my opinion.
  23. On second thought it does...NO SEASON PASSES FOR YOU!!! (And by you, I mean EVERYONE) JK
  24. Season passes would be custom made under my plan. Decide what you want, and add it up: -Gold Perks ($20) -Platinum Perks ($50+Must Have Gold) -Ride Roller Coasters ($40) -Ride Flatrides ($20) -Waterpark ($30) -Ride Everything ($80) (Replaces above 3 options if chosen) -Unlimited Food ($60) -Unlimited Parking ($25) You can also customize the image of your season pass, ala like a Capital One Credit Card (which I don't have)! A "fully loaded" Platinum Season Pass, with all perks, would be $235. But remember, you get UNLIMITED FOOD, UNLIMITED DRINKS, AND UNLIMITED PARKING ALL SEASON LONG! And for EVERY Cedar Fair park...Cedar Point, Kings Island, Kings Dominion, Canada's Wonderland, Michigan's Adventure, Knott's Berry Farm, Carowinds...etc etc...
