IDK if this is really the right topic for this, but IDK where else to put it. I was at Carowinds this week, sporting my classy Beast T-shirt, and one of the locals asked me in line for Hurler, "Hey, isn't The Beast the one that had a loop, but they had to take it out when it got stuck at the top and someone fell out?" I chose to tell them the truth, that no coaster fitting that description has ever existed at Kings Island, but that the Son of Beast was a wooden coaster, which did have a loop that was later removed after retrofitting the ride with new trains. I also informed them that nobody has ever died on a roller coaster at Kings Island (unless you count the guy who had an aneurism on Firehawk, but even he died after getting off, and the ride likely had nothing to do with it - article here http://www.daytondai...=rss_local-news ). In short, I think it's time to accept that we will likely need to say our goodbyes to Son of Beast. When it's hurting the daddy's reputation, that's when it is becoming a serious issue to the park. Beast is one of the most special things about Kings Island, and ol' Sonny is scaring people away from it.

Like I said in my last post, this is not at KI, but at Carowinds. But I think it's relevant enough to belong here, and I think the picture is far too priceless not to upload. And if you don't get what's so special about it, think really hard about it, and you may find yourself in the Fast Lane for spotting the irony.

It seems fitting though that he would want to ride a Kings Island classic while at Carowinds. I was there yesterday and I experienced this great ride for the first time (and yes, I managed to make it snap. Mission Accomplished). Definitely a fun ride. Much more enjoyable than the impossible basketball game we got in its place.

Not to derail the topic again, but my earlier claim was to exemplify that the deformation on the brake run was not one of the issues that makes Son of Beast unsafe. Whether it is unsafe or not (personally, I side with safe, but not enjoyable for everyone) is up in the air, but that is not a factor in it being unsafe, if it is.

I will be at Carowinds next week, and I was wondering if there was a good order to ride things in order to more effectively hit everything. My hotel is on the South Carolina side, so my original idea to hit Nighthawk first (since I know that flying Dutchmen have very low hourly capacity) would involve going to the other side of the park. Is this still recommended? Also, on Nighthawk, is there a bin for loose articles, or is the policy the same as Firehawk? Thanks in advance for your help! I should add, I'll be there on a weekday, and I'm assuming that as a general rule, crowds are comparable to KI. Is this a good assumption, or is it heavier or lighter typically? I'm referring of course to averages, disregarding weather differences and special events.

I think it's possible that there are people who are terrified of coasters, but have no fear whatsoever of Drop Towers. I've seen stranger things: one friend of mine loves loves loves Delirium, but is absolutely petrified of Viking Fury. Go figure. I will say that while Viking Fury gets me a little bit queasy every time, Delirium does not bother me at all. Doesn't stop me from riding Viking Fury, but still...

I like to get on the first row of Backlot and flail my arms about whilst screaming as if I were about to die as I come out of the billboard tunnel. On many occasions, I have gotten people on the bridge to laugh hysterically.

Being a computer-controlled system, there has to be an algorithm as to how it calculates rewards. Keep in mind, however, it's also possible that a random number generator is involved in some way, perhaps to determine a multiplier of some sort or even to determine if an action in the park counts toward rewards at all. They are keeping it vague on purpose - it keeps us coming back, in the hopes of getting new rewards. However, I think a predictable system could work too. Speedy Rewards are the reason I almost always go out of my way to go to speedway for my convenience store needs, and that system is very predictable (And very good about giving you lots of points).

I vote for the claim that it's new. I've ridden hundreds of times, and I can honestly say that was the first and only time I've felt that. THe ride was only about half filled at the time. Maybe it has something to do with weight distribution?

I was at the park on Wednesday of this week, and I noticed something off about Delirium. I noticed that at the apex of its swing, at the point where it changed direction, it seemed almost like the ride was "skipping" if that makes any sense. Like, instead of changing direction smoothly, it seemed to jump a few times. And I don't know if it's related or not, but for the first time ever, I left the ride with a headache after that cycle. Has anyone else noticed this phenomenon, or am I just crazy?

But in all seriousness, the bees are worst in line for The Beast I think. But as it's been pointed out, those are just carpenter bees, which I don't believe sting. I just have to tell myself they won't hurt me and make myself deal with it. I hate bees, almost as much as Nicolas Cage - and that can be interpreted two ways, both of which are true. Agreed. Whoever decided to erect the ride with the lift hill facing East was a sick, twisted person, especially since most enthusiasts ride it in the morning (when it's open)

Please ignore this if it's already been said, but almost every time I was at the park last year, the metal detectors were unplugged anyway. They were maybe, MAYBE, a possible deterrent, but they would not have stopped anyone who wanted to bring in metallic objects, gun, knife, or otherwise.

I probably should have specified, Sunday is an impossibility, at least this weekend. But, I do appreciate the advice. And yes, Fairfield is a lot closer than Atlanta. My only issue is that I work minumum wage and drive an SUV, and will be temporarily jobless Tuesday. (Wow, this makes it seem like I have no priorities at all... I live with my parents and got a full scholarship to school, that's why being jobless isn't a big deal for me) But I can probably get my parents to cover the gas for me, as they always have as long as I'm in school, haha.

I know it's difficult, if not impossible, to predict crowds, but I'm going to ask anyway. Historically speaking, assumming no rain and normal ride operation, etc, how does the second weekend of the season typically end up crowd-wise compared to opening day? I know opening day is usually incredibly crowded, so I typically avoid it (also because I'm in college up by Zanesville). I will likely be headed over for my first trip of 2012 this Saturday, and I want to know if I should wait for weekday operation. (I'm a guy who hates waiting in long lines). I know that in May, as a rule of thumb, crowds tend to be lighter, but my main question is, based on experiences from past years, would it be worth driving to KI from Fairfield for someone who doesn't really like lines but needs his adrenaline fix?

The pictures that they take when you enter the gate (despite your protests) do go online, and the piece of paper they give you tells you how to view them. I don't think they do that for ride photos though. But I've been wrong before.
