IIRC, they typically don't run the two coasters at the same time, taking away from the High 5 element, presumably due to safety concerns of one patron grabing the hand of another patron on the opposite train. Its definently a cool concept, unfortunetly its not idiot proof.

Concrete is concrete, no mater if your pouting the foundation for a home or pouring the footers for a rollercoaster. My guess is they mostly do home construction b/c that is the largest kind of construction in the area. There is nothing particularly complicated about the pouring and setting of the concrete for this rollercoaster.

anyone have a good face palm? Don perhaps? If you use reading comprehension, Don's pointed out the list of their 14 coasters, just not directly. He's clarified the only rides that would have questions on them. Don's word is 1,000x more official than anything you see on Wiki. Not everything in life is going to be pointed out directly to you, sometimes you have to use reading comprehension to find your answer, this would be a good thread to start.

oldiesman, that's a fair point, but those attractions, specifically the sight lines from 71 is my general reference point over the last 10 years. There appeared to be a few more people yesterday. Now for all I know, perhaps several of those slides aren't ready yet, which could explain a lot, there could be a ton of activity in other parts of the park, which is why I asked. I hope the park works out and remains a staple for a long time as a nice alternative to Soak City and KI.

^ as well as the entrance sign (and the tunnel they added when they renamed it in honor of ther grande new roller coaster)

Take breaks. Don't know how much you rode, how quickly, but the only time I get affected is when I ride a bunch of rides in a row with a short turn around.

Actually, I believe Don said "There may not be a day this summer we make an announcement" which leaves room that there may indeed be a day this summer (or night)..... May leaves room for change, or uncertainty, which I'm sure was done on purpose.

I was wondering today, ifvdonsvtweet about being on the wall, then shortly followed up by the tweet being on the other side is a hint that he's back there filming teaser videos similar to the one he did for DA.

anyone been to the beach this year, how does it look, how are the crowds? I haven't been in some 20 years I'd bet, but I pass it on the way home from work. Traveling along 71N, I can see the slide they painted red, the new volley ball courts, and the line for a couple of other rides. Despite having perfect weather a handful of days the last week for a place like the beach (hot and sunny) the lines appeared to be non existant, while in the past, there was always people stacked up riding for their next ride.

FUN is the stock ticker for Cedar Fair, LP. If you're not sure what that is, all companies traded on the new york stock exchange or NASDAQ exchange are given a stock ticker symbol to make the trading of these companies easier (its far easier to write a ticket to purchase 1,000 shares of FUN than to write the same ticket saying you want to purchase 1,000 shares of Cedar Fair, LP. Some tickers are fairly obvious (general moters ticker is GM), some are a play on the company's operations like FUN or TAXI.

Just wait until you see the videos they show you in birthing class, or your own child pops out. Reality is most definently not the nice clean baby you see pop out in a movie, however give the nurses a few minutes to clean the child up, and your heart will mealt quicker than ice in the sahara.

Kings Dominion and BG Williamsburg Tips?
medford replied to beastrider97's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
stupidly annoying feature. I took my sone on his first White Water Canyon ride a couple of weeks ago (and my first ride in probably 20 years). We had a blast, but barely got wet (I wasnt' complaining). He wanted to do the log flume next, so I took him on that, and made the mistake of granting his wish to sit in the front, which got us both properly soaked compared to the 2 of us sitting in the back. If that wasn't enough, I forgot about that evil snoopy as we came around the bend, he spit all over me. -
I'd wager it's the same person. I thought the same thing.

Somewhere last year, presumably at the annual shareholders meeting, cedar mentioned a specific target number for the % of revenue they would target for capital expenditures. I would think it would be safe to assume, that the overall % will be divided up more or less in relation to each indivual park's revenue. Considering the cost involved in major coaster installations, obviously not all of their parks are going to be able to get their share of capital expenditures each season, but they'll be spread around. With the new regime in place, if someone took the time, after about 4 seasons or so, there is a good chance that an expenditure pattern would develop w/n the chain so that one could predict what scale of project each park is going to get in any offseason.

yes, someone knows.

perhaps KI is looking into a Wizard of Oz theming with on board music synced up to Dark Side of the Moon.

Well there you go, Son of Firehawk has been born, ready to grow into a full invert just a handful of steps away from his father. Seriously, generally speaking: When a women's water breaks, they have ample time to get services before the baby arrives. There is a hospital just up the road that she could get to in under 30 minutes. If the women did in fact deliver in line, it would be all over the news, you think a 15 minute delay, escort off The Beast or Adventure Express is newsworthy? This blows that away; would probably even make a footnote on several of the national news programs. If we assume this alleged women was at full term, most women that far along in their pregnancy are so uncomfortable, that the last thing they'd be looking to do is walk around Kings Island on a hot, humid June afternoon.

Disney has several rooms located w/n the park. Well, you got me there. But even then, we're talking about individual rooms, not sprawling campgrounds or massive resort hotels. How many rooms does it take to make a hotel???? One some TV program, it seemed like there was a good handful of rooms avaialable at one of their "hotels" in disneyland. of course not just anyone can reserve a room, so I doubt I'm staying there anytime soon. it certainly wasn't a sprawling resort or campground, but I imagine that the charm of the rooms/location is the selling point for those best connected to Disney. One of the biggest problems, how many people would want to stay in a resort or campground directly inside an amusement park???? Amusement parks are typicall loud, brightly light places from early in the morning until late at night. A massive resort or campground is often aimed at families that may not want to get up that early, or may want to take a nap in the middle of the day, or may want to tuck the kids into bed early at night and don't want the fireworks waking them up. You limit your audience when you place something like that w/n the park, which in turns lowers your expected return on investment, not to mention all of the other hassels of getting guests and their luggage to the physical location, worrying about people sneaking out at night, etc...

They were Gingko trees. If they were of the male variety (at least I think its the male variety, but could be female, be sure to ask, then double check and get it garunteed prior to ever buying one for your property) there is a very specific reason why they would remove them, they produce extremly foul smelling fruit every handful of years. I don't know if that was the case with some of them or not, but if it was, there is little doubt they needed to be removed, or fear turning guests off.

I don't think one can expect a pizza at the park, considering how its mass preparred to taste the same as one made 'fresh' at a franchised store. I'm sure the LaRosa family realizes the downgrade based upon the limitations and is willing to "live with it". However, with that said, there is no reason why the pizza at KI can't be better, shouldn't be better. Its clearly an inferior product, I'd call it edible, but overall the food at KI isn't all that great (I haven't been to the Reds HOF grille, which is getting great reviews); its an area that I hope Mr O is looking to improve upon, given the reputation of Disney's culinary offerings. If the Reds HOF grille, and the reviews I've seen are a preview of what we can expect down the road, then I think its heading in a great direction. I'll add that Auntie Ann's is a great addition, we've had it each of the last 2 trips to the park, pretzels were fresh and excellant; considering how freshly they were made (I had to wait a couple of minutes for them to make them the 1st time as they were in a rush, which I was OK with) they were actually the best Auntie Ann's I've ever had.

When that one man is CEO, yes that one man can make a huge difference. Further more, it would appear that Mr O isn't the type of "hands off" CEO, just paying attention to the bottom line, but one that doesn't mind "getting his hands dirty", speaking to the general public, getting to know his product inside/out and figuring out ways he and his team can improve their product. Most great CEOs in the public service sector are like that, they try to get as intimate w/ their stores/parks/services as they can, they try to spot problems before those that work under them discover them, they look for way to improve things both big and small.

KK: How Twisted Twins Became That
medford replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
There's a lot of arrogance on French's part. Comparing the brand name recognition of Twisted Sister w/ Led Zepplin and the Stones is worthy of being flogged on the spot. But legally speaking, he has a point about protecting his brand, although one could argue that any risduals he gets from itunes is probably helped more by having his band's name out there on roller coasters, coffee shops, etc... than by anything the band has done lately.
