  1. Dippin' dots man told me they were finally installing the stair scene effect thru the tunnel.
  2. Someone quoted mr O at the gate keeper media event, that theyve already agreed to another b & m; with no other viable signs of construction at their other parks I'd say safe bet that b&m is coming to ki, where the footers are being dug.
  3. Concrete is incredibly strong when it is compressed (being pushed upon), its relatively weak when its in tension (being pulled upon) Since the nature of a roller coaster (or bridge or many other similar applications) is such that the forces applied to the concrete will be compressing the concrete one moment, then stretching the concrete another, or even more specifically, compressing one side of the concrete whle simultantiously stretching the opposite side of the concrete, rebar is added to give the concrete strength when it is being pulled. I hope I explained that easy enough to understand.
  4. I can't remember which map program it was on, but the current "close" satellite view shows a lift sitting outside of Delirium during the middle of an operating day at some point last year, for anyone that wants some visual proof that the ride has hasn't always acted with little interuption.
  5. Bumping to give Brian the credit for the prediction that I mentioned above. Whip him w/ a wet noodle should he be wrong (edit: got page bumped, wish they would have strong together so my post went w/ brian's prediction/observation.
  6. there's a picture floating around somewhere like on page 6 of this thread the highlights that person's guess as to the transfer station and loading station. As another week has gone by, it appears that person's guess was pretty spot on. Loading station, somewhere behind Sling Shot, entrance between the little gap that used (perhaps still does) hold seating behind delirum, just past the ice cream place, right by the old water tower. We used to sit there and catch the fireworks while eating an ice cream, my guess is that the line start there, wraps under the track and comes up to the station w/ a set of stairs just behind Sling Shot (which would be a similar path to how the entrance que works at Diamondback. If that is all correct, than that would still enable them the use of SOB's loading station down the line, if they decided.
  7. I got, loved it, wish it were possible; perhaps the rumored wing rider at carowinds could be called Zuel.
  8. Assume Mr O isn't trying to "throw off the scent" and a new B & M is indeed coming to a CF park, I think you're statement moves beyond speculation. Connect the dots: tear down SOB, clear a bunch of additional land, install footers, footers appear to indicate a coaster, more specifically a steel coaster, B & M has been hired, there are no reported signs of coaster construction going on at any of their other parks. If it quacks like a duck, walks like a duck, tastes like a duck, it must be a duck. It would be wise to leave room that B & M could be hired for the next project beyond whatever is going on at KI right now, but in his short tenure, Mr O seems to be a straight shooter, not one to mislead w/ his statements, and he obviously knows that the construction at KI has been noticed.
  9. Because, like I said, it never hurts to ask, besides with the number of new posters recently, I thought a bump of a thread with don answering a bunch of random questions might be worth while if was still willing to respond to some questions
  10. Its pretty easy to see why english is everywhere, its essentially the only international language. No matter if you grow up in spain, germany, japan, brazil, etc... if you're in a situation where education is important (obviously in many parts of the world, traditional education is either not important or economically challenging), and a 2nd languague (and in many cases a 3rd or 4th language) is taught, English is viewed as the most useful language to learn beyond your natural tounge. I'm surprised there's not Japanese as well, perhaps they felt it would be too cluttered, and left the most univeral language for a park that is going to serve mostly well educated people from many different cultures.
  11. I would assume so, today's a good day for pouring footers. Of course, significant change in construction to a formen running the job might be different than significant changes to a park visitor taking pictures from the Eiffel Tower. None the less, I'm looking forward to the updates as they come.
  12. Oh I don't actually expect an answer, but for does anyone else venture a guess based upon past information? I doubt they want to take away from the opening of Gate Keeper or any other rides that have recently opened up across their chain in recent weeks, however it seems like an August announcement, leading into season pass renewal time would be ignoring the obvious work going on in front of our eyes. However, I'm sure they'd like to build up the suspense. How long was the work on Diamondback obvious before an announcement was made? Of course, this is a different management group, which seems to be a bit more open about things, so the time table for Diamondback doesn't automatically tell us anything about the timetable for the current development. I feel sorry for the Eiffel Tower operators. On the way down last friday, she went thru her speal then asked if there were any questions. My only question was "how many times have you been asked what they're building over in the cleared lot". She smiled and said "a lot" w/ the implications that she's already getting tired of the question she can't answer.
  13. even though he stoped answering questions some time ago, file this under the 'it never hurts to ask' section: When does KI plan to announce what the current constrution is for?
  14. Problem is, most people don't stumble onto a Dave Ramsey or Suzie Orman until they've piled up $30k+ in credit card debt, multiple car loans, a mortgage they can't afford, etc.... I believe the point behind Dave Ramey's plan to initial save up $1000 emergency fund before paying off your debt, is that in case an emergency comes up, you don't have to go further into debt. I don't know all of Dave's teachings, but I'm going to assume once somebody has paid off all their debt besides their home mortgage, he'd advocate having 3-6-12 months of liquid savings built up in case of a job layoff, medical issues forcing you to miss work, etc... From what I know of Dave's teachings, he can be extreme, and cut people off from otherwise financially sound practices, however you can't get into any "trouble" following what he practices.
  15. Considering that Steel Dragon quickly stole the thunder of MF, I doubt Cedar Fair would feel all that bad about it.
  16. If they do put in a Giga, and considering how much land the cleared out beyond SOB's footpring, I wonder if they've considering building the world's longest coaster, bring the title back to KI
  17. My guess, is that if you're spending $2,600 on a carnival game to win a $100 XBox kinect, you don't have much of a life savings nest egg built up. On a side note, many would be surprised how few a % of people over the age of 30 couldn't scratch up $1000 on short notice to cover an emergency expense. I remember seeing some 60 minutes (or perhaps another news magazine show) story off people looking for work and how some had tapped into their 401(k). One person said they had exhausted their entire 401(k) and was still with out work. Biggest problem was that the person was in their late 50s, maybe even 60s and their value of their 401(k) prior to taking out early withdrawls was like $70,000. For those unaware, $70,000 isn't much of a retirment nest egg, at least that late in one's working career. I'm close to 30 and I rarely have over 1000 in my savings. Its just hard to save up sometimes with my mortgage, 2 car payments, and various other bills. I haven't done it, but I've thought about it plenty of times to tap into our 401(k). Back on topic: I think this guy does have a serious problem, whether it's gambling or not. How do you not know when to draw the line and stop playing the game?? If I spend 20 dollars on a game, I felt like I have over done it. Maybe the banana was telling him to do it, I don't know. Haha Trust me, I know what its like to feel like every dollar coming in, is already going out for the next car payment, child care, mortgage, etc.. didn't mean to come off preachy. Financial discussions are often best for other boards
  18. new footers (in case nobody has mentioned on this thread) and a whole heck of a lot of land clearing.

  20. FWIW, this thread made me think to see what the funperks.com webpage looked like. I wasn't expecting any differences, but turns out it takes you to the KI home page now, similar to typing in pki.com.
  21. I'm not a structural engineer, but I would think the size and shape of the footers largely depend on 2 things: the conditions of the soil that the footer is sitting in. the forces exerted on that footer from the steel above. I doubt the specific type of coaster matters to the shape of the footer, ie just because a wing coaster in illinois has square footers, a wing coaster in ohio could have round ones, or vice versa.
  22. Was up in the tower later last night, pictures don't really do justice to how much work has been done, land cleared beyond sob. Pure speculation, and I think it's contradictory to what theyve said, but it wouldnt surprise me to see a hotel at the far back of the park as part of the long term expansion
  23. I was going to say, WindSeeker was sitting at the top of the pole this morning on the way into work, obviously testing, but as mentioned above, it is open today.
  24. Heard this on the radio, thought it was a great idea. On top of that, I'm guessing they're going to have season passes on sale.
  25. Mary Ann...err... wait, what was the question?
