"Gg COO" Maybe he was thinking of Vortex and drew the loops. I can't be the only one that draws little roller coaster looking designs when I sign my name, right? (At least on cash register machines, not official documents or anything)

One of the Fun Facts on the Kings Island site is: "To build The Beast you'd need 650,000 feet of pine and 37,500 pounds of nails." If you are saying a foot of wood costs $2.50: 650,000 x 2.5 = $1,625,000. If each nail is steel: 37500 pounds = 18.75 tons of nails = $5250

According to some random stranger who said they asked the park, it is because they want to take absolutely no chances of a collision.

Carowinds 2013, do's and donts?
kblanken replied to BB1's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
-When riding Thunder Road, do not ride in a 3rd row of any car...if you thought The Racer was rough in a wheel seat, it will seem smooth after Thunder Road in a #/3 seat. (based on 2011 experiences) -On Hurler, don't let your back touch the seat behind you, and you will be fine. -When looking for the flying scooters, keep in mind that they placed it in the kid area. You aren't riding it properly if you don't scare away at least one parent from the line with the way you fly. -
According to rcdb.com, only 5 of the Arrow coasters from 1999-2002 were new (X2-2002, Psycho Mouse-2001, Mad Mouse-1999, Mad Mouse-1999, and Tennessee Tornado-1999.) The other five had been built in 1971, 1972, 1975, 1977, and 1995 before being relocated. Any lack of S&S coasters being built doesn't necessarily mean they don't want to build them, there needs to be somebody asking for them.
-
Why do you say that S&S isn't too interested in building coasters? There aren't a huge number of them in our country, but since starting in 1994 they have built an average of more than one a year. Right now there are 4 under construction. (http://rcdb.com/r.htm?ot=2&co=6930) They are using the Arrow magic to build fourth-dimension coasters if I understand correctly, and otherwise doing their own thing.

http://www.visitkingsisland.com/media-center/ride-record-book: Total Riders: 97,825,493 2014 is the likely year for the 100,000,000 rider. People seem to care about special numbers like that.

As the headline says on the page linked in the first post, "Yep, we really count every ride". Thunder Alley included. Thanks. //While using a mobile device, Kings Island is nice enough to force you to the mobile home index page, whether you want to or not.

Did Thunder Alley ever have a ride count in the record book?

Without any sort of "best if used by" date, if somebody loads up on water and lets it sit for too long, they may drink it and think it tastes terrible, causing them to contact the bottler/retailer to seek a refund, or more. It's not because of refunds and taste. Plastic sinking into your food and drink can be deadly, which is also the reason why people should never microwave food with products like saran wrap over it. While it is true that plastic can do some terrible things, the FDA states that shelf life of water, when produced in accordance with the set standards, has an indefinite safety shelf life. It goes on to explain that bottlers may voluntarily use expiration dates on the label. http://www.fda.gov/food/foodsafety/product-specificinformation/bottledwatercarbonatedsoftdrinks/ucm077079.htm

Especially if the S is s. Perhaps tomorrow I'll go towards Kings Island if they plan on bringing it down at a set time. I'd like to watch.

Over a long period of time, water in a plastic bottle can develop unpleasant odors and tastes. Without any sort of "best if used by" date, if somebody loads up on water and lets it sit for too long, they may drink it and think it tastes terrible, causing them to contact the bottler/retailer to seek a refund, or more.

They are also opposed to letting civilians use a restroom without crossing borders.

This sounds like a fun way to ask yourself a question. You could do it for other parts too, like: Nose, why do you struggle to maintain an air passage when you have a cold?

Regarding seasonal merchandise in a retail store, what is your suggestion for between halloween and thanksgiving? The stores have a dedicated location for whatever the current holiday is, and there is very little non-food thanksgiving related merchandise. The other options would be to leave it empty, or fill it with something that is wasting valuable selling space. It makes sense to put christmas junk out as soon as possible after halloween.

Cedar Point doesn't have one.

Knott's Expansion
kblanken replied to dudecoasterman's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
From knotts.com: "a harrowing journey down the 1,339 feet of track" and says 52 feet high. rcdb.com lists KD Ricochet, Fly, and all the Legoland versions with a length of 1312' 4", and considers it the "Wild Mouse (large park)" version, and these all have a height listed at 51' 10". It looks to me like it will be very similar, but with perhaps a longer station unloading area, or 27 feet longer due to a slightly different dimension on a different shaped footprint? -
Not that I noticed. I don't even think I saw any animals in the gardens at all.

Knott's Expansion
kblanken replied to dudecoasterman's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Considering that Knott's already has Sierra Sidewinder, it would be strange to get a Mauer Sohne spinner too. -
A few weeks ago, somehow I ended up near Salt Lake City. I had a few spare hours, so of course I went to Lagoon. My quick way to describe the park is: The Utah version of Rye Playland in New York. -Both parks are between 40°57′ and 40°59′ North. (about 2 miles difference) -Both parks assign seats on the roller coasters -Both parks have a dragon themed coaster -Both have large grassy things running through the midway (I can't think of what they are called, not really gardens but they have plants and things in them) -Both parks have several dark rides -Both seem to have Yankees fans everywhere Roller coasters: Spider - A fun spinning ride, just like the dragon at Waldameer. This is the ride with signs in the line asking to not sit on the fence. (The purple fence that would really hurt to sit on, you can see it by searching for images) Wild Mouse - Mouse Bombora - Newest coaster, I'd say it is a like Spider, but without any spinning. They play beach music through speakers in the car, and it is a nice family style ride. Roller Coaster - Wood coaster designed by John Miller 1921, which makes it one of the oldest anywhere. A double out and back style ride, and still very enjoyable. Colossus the Fire Dragon - Schwarzkopf double looping, with a big helix after the loops. I don't want to explain just how much more awesome this ride is compared to most coasters that have inversions… it might be too insulting considering Arrow Dynamics was located so close to here. Wicked - Tower Launch coaster, and similar to Eurorfighters, and have only lap restraints. They have booster seats if you are between 46-50", or above 50" rides without them. The restraints do clamp down tight after the blast over the tower, and there are too many bugs attacking from the little lake inside the structure, but it is still a nice ride. Bat- Clone of Runaway Reptar. It had a long line, so I didn't end up riding. Jet Star 2 - did not ride Puff the Little Fire Dragon - did not ride Other things: Flying Aces: Bisch-Rocco 10-tub Flying Scooter, and it runs clockwise. Definitely High Snappability. They also have a Herschell Merry-Go-Round from 1906, a double shot from S&S about 200 feet tall, and a bunch of other rare and common flat rides, kiddie rides, and attractions. I would like to go back someday and enjoy the park some more.

Oh, that sounds like a good time. In 2011, I was able to visit Holiday World on the last day of the season.

I'm hoping that for 2013 Kings Island has talked with Baynum Painting, and is asking for a lot of white paint. The paint company that does most coasters, they have a neat page with Invertigo photos: http://baynumpainting.wordpress.com/2012/03/01/roller-coaster-painters-kings-island-Invertigo/

Most of us would give advice based on our own experiences, but I doubt anyone else has lost their 2011/2012 pass and then renewed a pass that we no longer physically possess. This really is an ask guest services or the season pass processing people when you go to the park question.

I can't make it to Kings Island this weekend, so I won't get a chance to redeem my free Funnel Cake or to use my discounts. 8-(
