  1. Yes, it's a helix, but that specific helix is referred to as the Rose Bowl.
  2. That's Steve Hill. I saw him at IOA when I was there Dec. 9. He worked at PKI all the way through 1999, my first year.
  3. I don't know about Vortex, but roller coaster chains can break and have broken before.
  4. Yes there is more to the ride program than just the show, but the current show and ride sequence are designed around each other. You can't just change what the ride does without changing the show. If you did, the show would make no sense. Now, changing the show lighting shouldn't be extremely hard; PKI's entertainment department could probably do that. Changing the audio would be a different matter. The entire thing would have to be reorchestrated and that wouldn't be easy or cheap.
  5. Hmmm...the day I found out Philbert wasn't coming back......oops. Not nice. Let's see, my last day fighting to keep the cooler from being dumped over my head. Heh.
  6. "Is the Tomb Raider a ride?" (while sitting at TRTR greeter next to the big TOMB RAIDER: THE RIDE sign.)
  7. Typical PKIU mods. Someone tries to make a comment in a civilized manner, and what happens? One of them gets their little kick by editing someone's post. Yeah I know what's coming......"If you don't like it here, go somewhere else." Well, if you don't like hearing people who don't think exactly the way you do, why the hell run/moderate a forum?
  8. So people get excited about a sign. If you don't care, why take the time to write a reply about it? Saying they have no life or calling them "gay" or "stupid" doesn't seem to be called for. I ADMIT...I AM A LOSER
  9. A first-time ride on Tomb Raider is a much better exerience if you don't know what the ride's like.
  10. Look harder at the arms. They are not the same. Also, ever notice the far end seats haven't been used in a while?
  11. So she was topless? Because they can ride with just a swimsuit top.
  12. Scooters = Flying Eagles
  13. That would be the price of having walk-ons. With less mass on the train, the force the magnetic brakes exert on the train slow it much easier. Full trains go much much faster than near-empty ones.
  14. Nobody said any of your info was incorrect. He was saying that your statement that there are more effective ways to do things is pretty presumptuous<sp?>. There are no arbitrary reasons for the way things are done, at any business. Things are thought out and planned.
  15. If no one is allowed to talk about it, why mention that no one is allowed to talk about it? Saying that it is for safety reasons is sufficient. Incorrect. The triangle is supposed to light up, turn a few times, spin to line up with the door pattern, then fade out. The operator should open it when it lines up. Right now, it lights up, turns a few times, sits for while, then fades out AS it moves to line up with the door. It's completely faded out before it even gets there. And if the operator waits until it's faded out, THEN the timing is messed up. The sound of the door sliding, the fog, and the lights on the other side will be off-cue. The problem is the light gets stuck for too long after the initial short spins, and is already fading out by the time it goes to line up with the door.
  16. The lights not going out in Tomb Raider immediately is intentional, not a malfunction to be fixed. The lights will NEVER go out immediately again. Also, the weather forecast said the temperature was going to be cold today for several days. Having steel coasters closed in the cold is nothing new at any park. I'm sorry you didn't enjoy your day at KI. But you of course have the freedom to not go there anymore if you're not satisfied.
  17. Those cables are always swinging. Even if there is a light wind at the top of the tower, it blows through the top of the shaft faster, making the cables move. It's like walking through the woods at night: every little sound seems creepy or scary.
  18. Yes, it's so the winch can handle the weight. The cables would be fine.
  19. Apparently not enough, Josh. It's actually a "temporary" delay. How about: "All right now, remember. Remain seated throughout the entire ride, and for goodness sake keep your hands, arms, and legs inside the boat at all times!.........and thank you." "Caution! Keep your hands down and inside the car. Please remain seated at all times. Thank you!" "The go-cart has two foot pedals. The red one is for the brake, and the green one is for the gas. Please do not press on the gas pedal until you are instructed to do so. Before entering the track, please notice the traffic lights located in the station and around the track. Green means go, red means stop. Please do not bump the car in front of you, or you will be removed from the track. Thank you and please drive safely." Let's see....some from the good old days: "Ladies and gentlemen, the handrails are our friends. We do not sit on your friends, so please don't sit on ours." "Ladies and gentlemen, unless you are on fire, you should not be smoking." ...and my personal favorite... "Please do not run through the line. If you run, you could be mistaken for deer and shot."
  20. There is no weight limit for individual riders on Skyflyer, but the combined weight of a flight can't be over 850 lbs.
  21. Top Gun's track changed from red to silver between 1998 and 1999. It was also repainted in 2001 when Gillette began sponsoring it, however the color remained the same.
  22. It's not just that Face/Off is fading (which it is), but there are chunks of red paint missing from the supports. It looks pretty bad up close.
  23. Perhaps it would breathe new life into it, but two new trains would be very expensive. It would also require a redesign of the station platform and the queue gates. Also, Vekoma isn't the only company to make unenclosed suspended cars. Arrow themselves had a "bodiless" suspended train.
