Buy or Sell
SonofBaconator replied to SonofBaconator's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Buy- 10 years is a long time for a park like theirs to wait to add something, especially if it’s to replace an attraction that was retired the way it was. Buy or Sell?- At least one former Cedar Fair park will get “Six Flags” put in front of their name by the end of the decade: Six Flags Valley Fair, Six Flags Worlds of Fun, etc. -
Similar to Airtime Thrills’ “Buy or Sell” videos combined with the concept of the “This or that” thread. I’ll start off by saying “Buy or Sell” followed by the topic. The next person has to reply with either buy or sell and explain their answer then they continue the thread with the next one. Buy or Sell: at least one pre-merger Six Flags park will abandon the Six Flags from their name.

To think we used to have 4 dark rides: FoF, Action Theater, Boo Blasters, & TR:TR and now it’s cut in half.

I just finished watching Beetlejuice (the first one) and an episode from Tales of the Crypt. I’m convinced those two were the inspiration for Phantom Theater. If you click the first two links, you can hear what I mean.

If they’re operating one train, you won’t see collision issues. Even if they went to 2 trains ops, they could space the trains out enough to minimize the chance of rain affecting the breaks. This could happen with any coaster that’s exposed to the elements.
-
I wonder if taking it to two train ops during rain in future would be the move as it would leave more space between trains.

Pleasseeeeee take this with a grain of salt….. The only reason why I’m bringing it up is because now with the new merged chain, the new six flags, and more importantly, former Cedar Fair, now own two of the tallest coasters in the world with one of them getting a complete overhaul. It makes you wonder if Cedar Fair’s desire to cut down on maintenance heavy rides will spill over into Six Flags parks. https://www.reddit.com/r/rollercoasters/s/DnU6eYeLjU

That was kind of the intent behind the color choice, that, and the former wildcat coaster that sat in that same spot had the same colored track. -

If it’s still possible, I think it should be repainted purple. There are already 5 coasters with red track at that park. -

From a PR standpoint, I don’t think the word “disaster” is inappropriate. The ride was SBNO for a while and when it finally reopened under a new design, it closed again shortly after. It doesn’t matter how much of it was “in their control“or not, it’s about responding to issues that appear and using different solutions -

That’s right! Down the road, there might be a project that’s in the works for Six Flags Great Adventure but might make more sense at Carowinds. There might be money budgeted for Valleyfair and Michigan’s Adventure improvements that might be redirected towards Fiesta Texas, and so on and so forth. I think this new, larger chain presents an interesting opportunity to see how corporate will move assets and money around to where it might make sense at the time- like giving CP a relocated coaster to makeup for Top Thrill Dragster/Top Thrill 2s downtime. -

I hope that with getting this last minute coaster that they add some theming to make it more unique to CP. More parks will add coasters like this down the road so it’s always good to add theming to help us stand out. -

Personally I’m happy Kings Island didn’t get this. I’d rather get something ground up that was designed specifically for our park as opposed to getting a relocated project- especially if it’s to replace something as iconic as Vortex. With 40+ properties to maintain and life being unpredictable, it’s likely that a project might be diverted to fit another park…Heck it’s already happened with Cedar Fair pre merger: CP got the Dive coaster project in 2016 instead of CWL and built Valravn, KI got the B&M project intended for CGA and built Orion. This will more than likely happen again down the road. -

A few things: Holy crap that came out of nowhere Impressive that CP is getting a “large scale” Vekoma Good use of space but it’s weird that its right next to an existing dive coaster that more or less does the same thing minus the tilt track. Looks like the trains will be lit, change color, and feature onboard sound 3 coasters back to back to back is crazy. Granted the first was a family coaster, the second was a modification, and the 3rd was a thrill coaster but still. Seems kind of a “small” addition for CP in terms of capacity- at least that’s according to RCDB. -

Personally, after looking back all these years later, I still think this was one of the poorest decisions CF ever made to a ride. -

I think a lot of people put stock into these tombstones because of what we saw with Firehawk a couple years ago, where it was blatantly obvious that it was going away but they still had fun with it. Now you have a tombstone placed near an old ride, as opposed to the graveyard, with quite a bit of detail in it. Pair this with the former ride building/haunted house seeing some activity last year and you have a good amount of speculation to have fun with if you’re a fan.

I always remembered them closing at 7 IIRC. It did create an unfortunate overlap because kids would still be in PS when the monsters would come out and families would have to walk past them if they wanted to leave. I know the park lets out warnings before Haunt begins but when you close your kids rides right when the monsters come out, you’re going to have overlap. Personally I think the PS rides should close at 6-6:30P at the latest to remove that overlap entirely. On a side note, I do like how in the past they had part of the kids Halloween event in Soak City so families could park on the water park side of the parking lot and avoid the monsters entirely by walking between PS and SC, though I’m sure staffing and logistics was a good reason why it didn’t return; one less side of the park to staff.
