Kings Island and Cedar Point opening Mid-May
brenthodge replied to BoddaH1994's topic in Kings Island
I have never seen the whining and entitlement like the some of the season pass holders on FaceBook posts from the park. Good lord, I’d feel like giving them NOTHING at this point. -
So, one shot with sun on the supports looks brighter than one WITHOUT sunlight on the supports. Proving what? Sunlight makes things brighter?

Flight of Fear the good bad and the ugly

I agree. The colored floods, while better now as LED than a few years ago with old cracked gels and almost no color, do little to create an experience. Even though it didn’t relate to the old story, a complete star field with moving sparks of light in the darkness would be more disorienting and could tie into the new theme. -
I Throw them out as soon as the season is over. Why the heck do I need to hold on to more crap?

Not at all. The drop off in numbers and spending probably made it easy to justify closing an hour earlier. orion and Carnivale will more than compensate for the few people who stayed and spent that last hour people complaining “I’m not renewing my pass because of getting less hours for my money” will still renew because they just like to complain. my thoughts.

Wow. Impressed. I don’t remember the “in park” launches last New Years. Definitely brings a new level.

I think it’s fine to vary price, but I do think they need a more consistent “schedule” for the pricing just to be fair. Like “from 6-8 is premium pricing. From 8-9 it goes down 10 and from 9-10 it’s even 10 bucks less. If people knew they could wait and pay less, you might drive more business to the later hours to the point that you wouldn’t need to drop it as much.

Yep, it’s a shame, because the other night they were heading back to the animal area in PS and coming up the hill and around the Eiffel Tower. It looked so cool and romantic. That longer path would make it worth more. I know the logistics on a busy night would make it neatly impossible to go down IS, and around the tower back to Coney, but imagine the kinetics of that! Plus if there was any way to start them in river town, it would be more more thematically appropriate to have horse drawn cartridges in a “country Christmas” area.

And within moments the entitled masses are *****ing!

They REALLY need more signage to explain this. When you know about it, it’s super charming. When you don’t, it’s super odd and “looks like something a high school made” because...well, they did. I had to explain to a few people tonight who were VERY confused and once they heard the whole story they were super in to it. I just feel like they stuck it there with no backstory about its creation.

Free Coca-Cola bottle sweater day, Friday, Dec 20th

Yes. They do. There’s an entire promotion based on it. -
Dated stuff should never be resold. Either mark it WAY down last night if two, or write it off and trash it. There’s nothing “special” about limited edition stuff a year later. That’s just the “cost” of this type of product. It’s gotta sell or be gone.

Check out the new show at Knotts this year. THAT is what needs to be in KI Theatre. Move snoopys silly spectacular to festhaus and change it up a bit each year (like the Christmas pop show at the handstand, just keep it more “traditional”) but it couldn’t be that hard to restage a few numbers each year. Get rid of the “snoopys missing” bit and just make it a “Peanuts Christmas Review” Then spend sone $$$ partially enclosing (heat, extend the roof, maybe some temp side walls) the International Showplace and put Timkers or some variant of that there.

Opening night the tree lot wasn’t lit and didn’t even look open.

Awesome. I think you captured the spirit of the event EXACTLY. glad you had a great time!

Anyone think tomorrow will be a wash-out cancellation? They only closed one night last year due to weather and it was a weeknight before Christmas. Assume it will go on since it’s probably a “prime night” being the day after thanksgiving, but be interesting to see if there’s a rain cancellation or reduction in hours.

Tons of them. In fact a lot of the seating was almost unusable unless you like to sit in a bubble bath. Soap snow is cool, but when it’s blown at a lower height like they do, it really doesn’t dissipate before it hits the ground. Would almost be better if the machines were on the rooftops of the buildings pointed up to get greater height.

They need to be just a WEE bigger. The bases of the “fountains” hang over a bit, but yes, I’m impressed they went to the effort of doing this instead of just plopping the fountains in the entrace or in a random flower bed.
-
I also liked that all of I street lighting was integrated with the show. It really makes for an immersive environment.

So impressed all the images in coney BBQ have been changed to past Winterfest pics. They are upping the details big time. Quite a few technical issues with lighting thus eve in coney and on I street, but opening night always has a few glitches. Seeing kids have a great time interacting with the 4 drummers makes the “oops” moments fade. And the queue house trim on mystic looks great. Nice new addition. and it looks like EVERYONE had a great night. Love the characters - official or otherwise- that come out for Winterfest!

I think when they add that next year (hint) they will either have to open a hour earlier and push everything forward, or eliminate the last performance of all shows since essentially all of the casts become the parade performers.
-
Since they are starting to announce dates for this at carrowinds and valley fair, anyone know when this will be at KI next year? If they are still rotating the two sets of floats and costumes, it’s going to be tight if it’s still running at the original 4 parks
