  1. Well since no one has said it yet how about a Huss Delirium. To my knowledge not a single park has ever put one in but the video looks good on the Huss website. Don't know if it would be fun to ride but I think it would be interesting to watch.
  2. Except the price is missing. Looking forward to driving down to pickup a Cedar Fair Maxx Pass. Wish it included admission for the rest of the 2006 season at the other Cedar Fair parks though.
  3. I don't think its possible for Kings Island to get a B&M next year. Cedar Fair has said that they are just going to put in what CBS already had planned for next year. It is my understanding that in the past it was unable to purchase a B&M because Cedar Fair has a contract that prevents the sale because of the proximity between Cedar Point and Kings Island B&M cannot sell coasters to Kings Island. Its a basic non compete agreement.
  4. I would think that you could remove the anti-rollback devices from higher up the lift hill. Then move the train up to where you removed the anti-rollbacks and remove all of them from below where the train is sitting. Then it should be no problem to get it to roll backwards down the hill. I have no clue how easy it is to remove them from the track though.
  5. Just thought I would post an update. Universal has raised their price to match. A single day single park ticket is now $67 at Universal which started on Saturday. Seaworld is still $61.95 and no word yet on if they plan to raise their price to match.
  6. Now there is a ride that has had problems. 3 accidents in less then a year. The first had one death and 10 people injured. The other two were minor.
  7. The issues at Disney were not because the ride malfunctioned, but because of pre-existing health problems with each person. The poblems with SoB and the issues at Disney are completely different. No I think he is talking about on Screamscape it was reported that during the Stitch show the animatronic apparently exploded and hydraulic fluid flew all over the audience. Disney kept it from the news by giving them more comps than a Vegas casino probably, I guess they don't really need anymore injuries on the news that happened at WDW. This has been discussed and someone who was there has even posted on a Disney forum. It was not the stitch AA but Sarge who is part of the preshow. Second no one was actually hurt. There is not enough hydraulic fluid to spray over the entire audience. A line burst or came loose which ruined some clothing but thats it. Unless your allergic to hydraulic fluid which is VERY rare the only way it could hurt you is if it is heated (which is common with hydraulics), you get it in your eyes, or you swallow some. How the story got blown up from replacing clothes to hush money I have no idea. Also where screamscape got the idea there was injuries I have no idea about either.
  8. Walt Disney World has over 42 million guests a year between the 4 parks. When you have that many guests there is bound to be people who have medical problems.
  9. I have been wondering if they could reuse the wood... Have gravity group come in and build dueling wooden coasters. You could still go with the animal names calling it The Pack or The Hunt.
  10. The problem with the $15 dollar parking is that its out of line with the rest of the industry. At Disney World parking is $9. Other then Six Flags are there any parks with parking that is more then $10 in the US? Lets look at food. This is the menu from one restaurant at Epcot Cheeseburger - Served with French fries. - $5.89 Bacon Double Cheeseburger - Served with French Fries. - $7.39 Double Cheeseburger - Served with French fries. - $6.89 Tossed Island Chicken Salad - Made with mango, pineapple, raisins, and coconuts in a Honey Mustard dressing. - $6.99 Whole Wheat Turkey Wrap - Served with Orange mayonnaise and Pineapple coleslaw. - $6.89 Roast Beef & Provolone Sandwich - Served with Mesquite mayonnaise and Pineapple coleslaw. - $7.09 Chicken Strips - Served with French fries. - $6.69 Drinks are $2.39 for a large and $2.09 for a regular There is a reason why people spend so much money at Disney. Instead of eating at a counter service location (like above) they go and eat at a sit down restaurant. When they look at the souvenirs they actually find something they want to take home. You have to pay for tickets and parking (unless you are staying on site). Plus you have a hotel room, and maybe even a rental car. You need to also think about how your going to get there. It all adds up. This reminds me of the reason behind the fast pass at Disney. First it helps drive guests to rides with a shorter line and it also gives them more time to shop. From what I read it did work and souvenir sales did go up. Every park it seems has something that seems too expensive. Look at Universal if you stay at an onsite hotel the cheapest room is $199 during the off season. They just started charging the hotel guests $12 a day to park. You stay onsite at Disney you get free parking and you can drive yourself to the parks and park there free as well. For Kings Island it seems to be the food prices this year. Six Flags its parking. Looks like for Disney its ticket prices. In the past both Universal, Sea World, and Disney all match each other a few weeks after one raises their prices. I expect a similar price increase will be announced in a few weeks from Sea World and Universal.
  11. Disney only recently started providing an airport shuttle and it has always been free so far. Other companies including the one who Disney contracts out the shuttle service to (Mears) have provided pay shuttles for years. The goal I believe is for people to stay on site and not visit the other parks in the area. Although they do have a car rental agency on site that makes it easy to just get a car for a day or two if you want to visit other parks. The Walt Disney World parks are starting to get crowded at all times of the year now. I would hate to see what they are like during the really busy times since I try to always go during the slower seasons. I think that a 5th park or MAJOR expansions of the existing parks is needed. I don't even want to think about how long lines would be if the tickets were cheap. I agree that they are trying to move people away from the single day tickets. Last time I went (October) I purchased a 10 day ticket which still has 7 days left on it which I will use on my next two visits to Orlando. That same ticket today is much more expensive.
  12. Even if Cedar Fair management has already given up on the coaster and is going to tear it down its in the best interests of the park and the chain to finish the investigation. Its very important to prove what caused this accident because of the current and future law suits. Also you have to consider the view of the park in the eyes of guests. Accidents at parks will drive down attendance they may be able to improve the image of the park if its found to be due to bad wood or something else beyond the control of the park. I have no idea how insurance is handled on the park but I doubt accidents like the one on Son of Beast can be good.
  13. The theory behind this on Disney fansites is that the new 2007 packages come out soon and they are just trying to time everything so it all comes out together.
  14. I am looking at the 2007 season pass and I like the BOGO offer going on right now. That makes it $32.50 each for two people. (Although I don't know of anyone who would want to purchase one with me off the top of my head and the offer ends the 6th) Plus and I really like this option they have a Platinum season pass. Free Drinks Free Parking Bring a friend free on Mon, Wed, Friday Plus early admission at 9:30 AM Even though its $60 thats a nice upgrade Shoot the deals are about to work on me and I have never owned a season pass to The Beach. You pick one up now its good the rest of this year all of next year and you can go to the holiday fest.
  15. On average 4 to 5 people die on coasters in the US every year. Mostly due to preexisting medical conditions. So far though this year does seem worse then normal. But I will have to check I believe it was 2001 that was a very bad year for injuries in general. Don't know about deaths but it was well above average for the number of people who went to a theme park and was treated at an emergency room. That does include all the idiots who injure themselves and the people who trip over their own shoelaces though.
  16. Shoot if you want a LOT of alcohol in a park go to Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Studios. The park puts in temporary metal detectors before the gates (which are not used during the day). Then inside the park I have never seen as many drunks at any park. But when you get a nice plastic glass that flashes different colors you have to purchase some alcohol just to get a souvenir... The Food and Wine festival at Epcot is another great time to get alcohol. Not as many drunks but tons of people walking around with alcohol.
  17. There's a VERY simple reason why they can't do that. They don't know what is going to happen to SOB yet. Until the state and engineers finish their reports Cedar Fair has nothing to base a decision on. Once the reports are finished they will then know what the problem was and how to prevent it in the future. Its possible though that the investigations will find other problems its just too early to say. For all we know it could be an easy fix or it could cost millions we do not know and neither does Cedar Fair. I bet CF has preliminary reports but we are not going to hear anything at this point until the final reports are finished and as it says in the article that's is expected to take several weeks. Plus preliminary reports can change as they find out more information. What if they announce that they are going to repair the ride during the off season and plan to have it open first day next year? Then a month from now a major problem is found that is too expensive to fix and Cedar Fair decides to just close the ride? It's better to wait and give out correct information then say something now and have it turn out to be wrong.
  18. Do not assume Cedar Fair is on the hook for this. They have insurance for a reason. I think it would have been better to wait until the state releases their findings though.
  19. The thing about The Beast is that its a VERY big wood coaster. Its common for it to not open at the same time as other rides. Every morning the entire track is walked looking for problems. This can take hours and can take longer for a large number of reasons. It does not mean the ride is "broke down" it just means that the park wants to be sure it is safe before it opens.
  20. As I remember the original plan was that one of the "islands" in IOA was going to be the Simpsons. Universal was unable at the time to get a license its possible that Fox has changed their minds. From what I have seen so far the plan is to reuse as much of the original building and ride as possible. The good is that this should be pretty cheap to change. The problem is that the Universal Orlando parks need more rides and shows. They need to worry more about adding then replacing existing attractions.
  21. Inspection ending does not mean that the ride will just reopen. If something is found that needs fixed or changed it could take a while. After the changes have been made the state will come through again to reinspect the ride. The only way that it could just reopen once inspection is over is by assuming that there are no problems or only minor problems found. Its too early for ANYONE to guess when the ride will reopen. Once inspections are over the park should know what needs fixed and will then be able to say how long it will take.
  22. Its from April at that point there would have been no point to talk about Cedar Fair...
  23. Cedar Fair does not own Bonfante Gardens they have the same deal that Paramount did all they do is manage the park. Star Trek is partly owned by the hotel. Not sure what percent that Cedar Fair controls. Plus it may not be very big but its two of the best walk through attractions ever built.
  24. I took a look at the satellite view on Google maps and it looks to me to be possible to keep the park and build a stadium still. If you look across the canal there is a second parking lot, a soccer field, 2 football fields, and a building or two. No idea what the buildings are or if the fields are public or not but its enough room for a parking garage large enough to service a stadium and could easily handle the park as well. It looks to me like if this is where its decided to put the stadium it should be possible to keep the park. No where in the article does it say Great America would close it just says if the current plan does not work out they will try to use the parking lot as a backup.
  25. There are things that can be done at Cedar Point to build new rides. Shoot they can use the parking lot and just bus people to the park from an off site lot if it gets bad enough. But I don't think its going to come to that anytime soon. They can even do what Disney did in California build a parking garage. California's Adventure was built on top of the old Disneyland parking lot. Cedar Fair did say that there was no big installs for next year at any of the Paramount Parks so I suspect at most we are getting a flat of some sort. Its a little late to be planning anything new that has not been ordered yet either.
