Six Flags Great America or Holiday World
WindingSon replied to WindingSon's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Looking like I have a few more financial burdens this month that I didn't foresee. Holiday World it likely is. Anyone have tips for best deal on tickets? Hoosier AAA offers tickets at $41, which is only a $3.99 discount. -
Whither Conneaut Lake Park Now?
WindingSon replied to The Interpreter's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Not to worry, that article was about Conneut Lake Park. -

Hotels, campgrounds, out-of-park restaurants, etc. Any money spent out of the park. KI doesn't have much... or any of it, I don't think. -

Ohhhhhhhh. Yeah, I get that. My stance is mixed. While I think it is possible for a screen or virtual things to help enhance a coaster or ride, I hope they're not thinking people will buy into these things as "good as the real thing" because that's not going to happen. If I wanted to watch a screen, I'd play a video game at home. I go to parks and ride roller coasters for the real-deal experience that cannot be emulated. Don't bring what can be emulated to the park. Probably getting ahead of myself since we don't know what this actually is, but that's my stance on "virtual content" at amusement parks. If I want virtual rides, I'd never leave the mall. Mine still has this (no joke): But hey, it may be the only way to ride Mantis anymore. -

I think you're right. Wonder Mountain's Guardian is a coaster, and would make the most sense to do this with. -

So what woodie at Kings Island would you want to get an RMC treatment?
WindingSon replied to Oldschool75's topic in KI Polls
Adventure Express does not roll on wood track, and therefore is not a wood coaster. It's a steel coaster with wood supports. Just like Gemini and other coasters just like it. You probably could rehab Adventure Express in certain ways, but it'd probably be better to just replace it altogether if you're going to go that route, since that's basically what you'd be doing anyway. It's the same conversation as Vortex. Anything you could do to "fix" it (outside of replacing trains) is basically replacing it with something new entirely. And yes, the RMC "hybrids" are steel. I think many call them hybrids just because most are conversions of old wood coasters. The concept of steel track on wood supports however, is very old. -

I found Mantis to be the worst roller coaster I had ever ridden when I rode it last year. I felt like I had been in a fight for about an hour after riding. It was terrible. I'd gladly give Rougarou a chance though. -

The park inches closer and closer to the guillotine. Except the body doesn't realize it lost its head long ago. -

Though what's almost always more interesting is what they leave out of the calls. Nothing about Rougarou. Sounds like the public didn't buy it as a new coaster. -

"We are going to test virtual reality on an existing coaster..." "Aggressive season pass renewal offering with Fast Lane..." "Amateur sports stadium overlooking Cedar Point..." "All of the parks are going to announce their new for 2016 attractions over the next few weeks..." Those have been the most interesting things said on the conference call so far. -
Cedar Fair reported record net revenues of $424 million for the six months ended June 28, 2015. This 5% increase over the same period last year reflects the Company's continued success in all areas of its business, including attendance, guest spending and out-of-park revenues. Cedar Fair is on track for a sixth-consecutive year of record results. Net revenues through this past Sunday, August 2, 2015, increased 5%, on a 2% increase in average in-park guest per capita spending, a 3% increase in attendance and an 8% increase in out-of-park revenues compared with the same period last year. I am heading out for a trip this month and I have never been to either Holiday World or Six Flags Great America and may need some help choosing. They are both within a half an hour difference in driving time, so location is not a big issue here. Let me list the pros and cons of each park to me. I also have no interest in the water parks so those do not weigh either. Six Flags Great America pros: Big selection of thrill rides and family rides. Goliath, which would be my first RMC. Close to shopping Offers Flash Pass, allowing me to maximize time Six Flags Great America cons: May not be able to ride Whizzer (single rider) Not well themed (just my impression) Not many "classic" or highly praised rides. Chicago traffic Will cost more. Holiday World pros: Always wanted to ride The Voyage and The Raven Thunderbird is new Free parking and drinks Interesting theme. (This matters a lot to my significant other) Cheaper of the two options Holiday World cons: Not much else to do in Santa Claus No fastpass option for maximum timing Not as many rides to choose from Emphasis on water park (?) Decisions, decisions...

Will things be busier on National Rollercoaster Day (8/16)?
WindingSon replied to chadcf's topic in Kings Island
I'm still trying to decide between Holiday World or Six Flags Great America for my trip this month. Never been to either. -
I really should make a thread for this stuff.

Surely enthusiasts will skip over Kings Island when KK gets Storm Chaser! This will surely happen! KI needs something big to compete!!!! Mr. Hart will own Kings Island unless they do something! -
Whither Conneaut Lake Park Now?

The plan is to somehow con more money into keeping the park open. Let's face it, that's all it is anymore. -

It was all a red herring. The track is headed to Kings Island for their giga. Gotta compete with Mr. Hart. That is, if you listen to CoasterRadio. -
Please keep in mind the tweets I linked to are from 2013 and pertain to Banshee's announcement. We still know nothing as it pertains to 2016.

It was no trouble at all.
