Kings Island. Excuse my ignorance, but why would he have not mentioned one of the parks Cedar Fair owned? -

My stomach can't handle the VR or motion simulator type experiences. I try, hoping that this time will be different from the last, and nope. Still makes me nauseated. This is not a experience that I will likely want to even try. As others have said, I too wonder about the logistics of adding this experience. The syncing of the video with the coaster. The sanitation after use against germs and bugs. How are they going to keep something attached to the person's head while the coaster is in motion. The time for adjustment of the headpiece to each person. I'm sure these are things taken into consideration but it will be interesting to see how each are addressed when this becomes reality next season.

I wonder if for testing purposes, choosing a ride that they know is popular will better guide their decision? If a ride typically sees a fair number of rides, seeing the number stay stable change drastically either way, could let them know if it's worth a larger scale adjustment of a lesser performing ride? Edited to finish my thought. Not sure how I managed that!

Cedar Point 2016 Talk
electricsun replied to Bansheeback's topic in Other Amusement Parks & Industry News
Or the bachelor party? One of my best friend's is getting married in August and she wants to repeat our CP trip from a few years ago. She said that we should just make it her "bachelorette" party. Works for me! I'll happily add that to my list of MoH duties. -
Bkroz - why am I suprised...but not really? I'm scrolling up and up and ...hey! These are really great! Can you share some more, please?

Smurf's Enchanted Voyage is a favorite. I have very distinct memories of the nervousness I felt before climbing down from the rotating platform into the boat. For some reason, it always made me nervous. It was one of a few rides I remember going on with my mom. The darkness, the music, the colors, and characters, being with my mom...it's just one big happy memory. This isn't going to be a popular opinion but I was on Phantom Theater once and didn't care for it. Summer after Senior year in high school, a huge volunteer group I was a part of visited the park. It was my first visit since the late 80s and I was sad and disappointed that the Smurfs were gone. A group of us rode it and ...eh. Not my thing. edited earlier to fix my typo - I know it was Phantom Theater and not Phantom Voyage - just reminiscing and wishful thinking...maybe if it was a voyage, I would have like it better?

Hotel Advice for Kings Dominion Visit in 2016
electricsun replied to PGalati's topic in Trip Reports
I'm not going to be of use if you want a hotel there. If you wanted to camp, the KD Camp Wilderness was nice and pricing was on par with the other park owned campground I've camped at. They offer a discount for AAA and have a free shuttle over to the park. It's super close but not quite close enough that you would want to walk there and back. I second Steph88 on the bedbug thing. With how much we travel for work, that is a must to look up. Steph 88 - I didn't realize that La Quinta had upped their game that much. It's been a few years since I stayed in one but then, I compared them to a Comfort Inn - at least for the ones I've stayed at in Ohio. I personally love Comfort Inn/Comfort Suites - their beds are so comfy and they have a really great rewards system. -
I think it really depends on the events and groups they have in the park. It's used during Education Days as a teacher green room. For one of the camps I chaperoned, we were up there for our lunch (packed lunches) and to listen to an engineer speak about his job and the industry. I will say that this summer it looked as though the walls and booths of the main room were recently painted.

If you are short like me (I'm 5'2"), I discovered that the back seats of The Vortex cars work better. I can plant my feet on the floor just under the front seat and brace myself so my head and ears aren't hitting the OTS. It allows me to ride without too much pain for my 1-2 rides a season.

I'm sure it will. That made me giggle. Thank you. I needed that! (electricsun who may be slightly slap happy from staying up past her bedtime to bake.)

2015 KIC Off Season Poll Series Week IV: Thanksgiving Traditions
electricsun replied to BB1's topic in KI Polls
A friend posted the cake she made for her husband's birthday and it looks amazing - http://smittenkitchen.com/blog/2008/08/chocolate-peanut-butter-cake/ Like a massive buckeye. Yum! But the caramel apple cake looks perfect for fall - http://www.honeybearlane.com/2013/09/caramel-apple-cake-recipe.html See the dilemma? They both look very good. I made this apple cider spice cake two years ago. It is a nice light cake with a slight richness thanks to the icing. http://birdonacake.blogspot.com/2012/09/apple-cider-spice-cake-with-apple.html?m=1 If you want to do something a bit silly for kids, I've done the peas & carrots and mashed potato cupcakes to great success - http://ourbestbites.com/2013/03/silly-cupcakes-for-april-fools/http://ourbestbites.com/2013/03/silly-cupcakes-for-april-fools/ Sorry...just sharing in case anyone else wants something other than pie for Thanksgiving. -
2015 KIC Off Season Poll Series Week IV: Thanksgiving Traditions
electricsun replied to BB1's topic in KI Polls
For the last 12 years (except for one), I've gone to one of my aunt's for dinner. Sometimes it's an open house where everyone gathers and visits throughout the day and I get to see most of my cousins, their kids, aunts and uncles. Sometimes, like this year, it's a smaller gathering. Either way, lots of stories, laughter, and family time. It's fun to sit and listen. I'm frequently tasked with bringing dessert. This year, I'm debating between making a chocolate peanut butter cake or caramel apple Bundt cake. Such a hard choice! -
YES! This, please. A Whip would look great next to the Carousel. I didn't realize the joy I was missing until I rode one. Now I know. And I would love to see one at KI.

If they have a system in place similar to the early 2000s, they also have to consider alternate performers in case something happens to the primary performers. Having previous alternates audition again if interested and seeing if their availability matches with the schedule for the season. A work friend was an alternate singer for a few years. He would have to go and sing again as well as make sure his measurements hadn't changed. edited to change "previous years" to 2000s...geesh, that was more than a few years ago.

I haven't decided whether I'm heading west or NE for my June trip. So many choices to be made and things to consider. I was only at SFA for about an hour and a half. So, unlike my miserable KD trip, I don't have much of an opinion about SFA beyond the mess of a parking lot. But it will likely be at least two years before I want to redo those visits.

I don't keep track of my individual rides. Instead here are some silly stats this season *4 KI visits that I was paid to be there by my employer. *3 times I drove a vehicle through the park (with permission). *1 KI visit where the drive there and back lasted longer than our visit. *9 KI visits with at least one niece or nephew. *9 1st time rides/coasters that I experienced with niece/nephews. *9 nights camping during amusement park visits *2 park affiliated campgrounds: Hershey & KD *1 KI WindSeeker ride during fireworks. *4 blue ice-cream cones *1 s'more Hershey funnel cake *1 ride photo purchased *0 items lost on a ride *7 park related magnets added to my fridge *4 parks I've been to before: KI, CP, Carowinds, BGW *5 new parks: Dorney Park, Hershey, KD, KK, SFA *2 parks that I need to give a "second chance" visit: KD & SFA *Numerous sunsets viewed from a ride *Too many to count - times I laughed/giggled/sighed happily during a ride

This was so fun to read. Congrats! I may not share your love for Vortex but I do appreciate it. Your enthusiasm is refreshing and it sounds like it was quite contagious. That is a great thing to share and spread.

2015 KIC Off Season Poll Series Week I: Last Ride of 2015
electricsun replied to BB1's topic in KI Polls
The Beast. Whipping through the forest with giggles and happy sighs. But my last rides throughout the park before my final two rides on The Beast had me dropping, flipping, twisting, and lifting out of my seat. Perfection! -
A guy I used to know would purposely purchase strange cars, fix them up, and drive them. From what I remember, he at least had a hearse and ambulance. He loved telling stories about people's reactions. The pictures were priceless.
-
Oh, for the love of science.
-
The Beast was about a 35 minute wait. The Fast Lane line was down the stairs and around the corner. They were letting people through pretty evenly.
-
We haven't hit the rest of the park yet but Planet Snoopy is busy. Boo Blasters has a full queue. Edited to add that FUNTV is showing no wait to 10 minute waits for the roller coasters.

Tropical Plunge - NEW for 2016!
electricsun replied to Italian Job 2005's topic in Kings Island Central Newsroom
I stayed at that exit Tuesday night. The difference in construction along the road from Sunday to Wednesday afternoon is pretty impressive.
