  1. #8 doesn't make a ton of sense...Yuengling has only been sold in Ohio for what, 5 years? It's far from a long-standing Ohio tradition.
  2. Impressive GIF. I wonder if there's any stills out there that could be used similarly to demonstrate how different Coney Mall is...I mean when I see pics from opening day and the mall stopping roughly half the length of The Racer tracks and think about how far beyond that it extends now. It's somewhat mind boggling how much the park has grown over the years.
  3. Not been to Cedar Point in ~30yrs, but GF and I are considering a visit this summer. We're also considering a day at Put-in-Bay. Any suggestions on a conveniently located hotel to facilitate a relatively quick trip to/from the park and the ferry? edit: my horrible autocorrect making a vacation destination read like a bay named after a Russian politician
  4. I hope they update their app with that sort of map and wait time data. Who am I kidding, I'd just like them to update the calendar in the app to this year (and not 2013)
  5. hmm...guess I just never noticed the cars on the webcam before
  6. So long as that one company isn't Caesars Entertainment trying to branch out from gaming...their track record of (not) maintaining their properties in Vegas would not bode well for any park they aquired.
  7. Man, I used to *LOVE* LaRosa's, but wasn't impressed with what we got in the park in October (first time having it in years). Hopefully it was a fluke thing and not the norm.
  8. Is it just me, or the Soak City (aka parking lot) one now shows several cars in the lot when it days/weeks past there really weren't? Is there something going on at the park?
  9. October was my first visit in 15yrs, but the front gate only 'needs' some cosmetic update, IMO. I mean, it's a park entrance. I'm not sure how much different it can be made (granted, it's not changed as far as I can tell since my first visit ~1980). An upgrade to the fountains would be cool...I think a Ballagio-style water show would go over very well with park visitors and add some entertainment for folks grabbing a bite to eat in the area. Why limit it to during fireworks? Let it run every 30min or so. edit: i was half asleep, I think, when I posted the first time
  10. While I am not a fan of resurrecting a thread from October, I see that this thread has experienced a resurrection spanning a much longer time period, so...so be it. I remember two flume rides before Amazon Falls (now Congo Falls) was installed, and honestly before White Water Canyon. I don't remember what they were named, though. I was a kid and for me it was "Big Log Ride" and "Small Log Ride". I believe Kings Mills was the "big" one. As a kid, the thrill was getting wet. Now, I think I would welcome a calming ride like I remember riding through the woods on a flume and then a drop that splashes riders (and cools you off in the summer). Regardless, they're both gone, right?
  11. The only thing The Racer is missing is the backwards train. I know it's not original, but it ran for how many years? This used to be my favorite coaster, largely because of its legacy. While iconic, the ride hasn't aged well in terms of thrill/fun for me. I don't want to see it go away (hey, I love legacy and tradition as much as the next person), but I imagine I'll ride it once per visit at most, just because I always have, not because I really want to.
  12. I don't understand why it only allows one entry per day. I mean...yeah, I could go in, get a stamp on the way out, give my pass to a buddy, go in with stamp and him go in with the pass, but...(I'm a new passholder, so I'm just going on what KI told us) isn't my photo on the pass? edit: Wouldn't it actually be easier (or faster, or both) to just show the stamp on reentry, anyway?
  13. I'm aware it's a two-day event. I'd probably make the drive down from Columbus for Saturday (all day) and pick up the last half of the day Sunday (the agenda for Sunday morning doesn't seem overly interesting to me)
  14. I still REALLY want to go, but don't think it will happen this year. Does anybody know if you have to be there for every part of the event, or if it's possible to miss the morning portion and pick up with the event/group at lunch? It would save some cash to not have to get a hotel and, frankly, not sure I want to see *all* of the stuff.
  15. When you spend 30min watching front seat POV YouTube videos of Beast, Banshee, Vortex and Diamondback
  16. The 'preview' day is only for renewals, correct? Us lowly folks who are new pass holders don't get in?
  17. I wondered about this on my visit in October (my first in 15yrs). Everywhere we bought ANYTHING, we were asked if we had a Gold Pass. Just how much is the 'discount' for Gold Pass holders?
  18. Not sure there were any 'great' ones in terms of entertainment. Surely some thought provoking ones with the Nationwide ones about child safety, the anti-sexism (can't think of a different way to describe them - ones about 'show me what it looks like to throw like a girl) and domestic violence awareness. I wonder if it's just me getting older (and hence nostalgic), but it seems every year I'm less impressed with the commercials compared to X years ago.
  19. Guess that's my 'problem'. I work in IT. I've been involved in merging the infrastructire of two of the largest banks in the world, then again for two of the largest electricity producers in the country. My mind is blown that a company can't read/recognize a barcode/magstrip at a location other than the origination. One wonders if it's actually a training/education issue for the staff and not a technical issue... I hope it's something that gets figured out sooner rather than later. I'd love to be able to drive 90min to KI, 2hrs to CP and not have to worry about parking/admission to either, but will probably refrain from upgrading for the time being after reading some of the posts here.
  20. UGH, this is making me reconsider upgrading to Platinum after this season. Granted, we'd most likely use it at Cedar Point and not a major road trip. I'm hoping we'll see reports (either success or failure) on these forums this season on folks' success at other parks.
  21. I'd say the park is more busy keeping the gated community away down the street right now. I don't follow. Could be because I'm new here, don't live local to the park (in Columbus area), or that I spend 8 of the last 9yrs living in TX and I'm out of the loop...
  22. I think I found the right thread...there were a few threads that came up on search results because the original got removed (not sure I was actually reading the original, TBH). Regardless, the one I was reading was a good diversion for while I was eating lunch lol.
  23. I love speculating about this sort of thing, but I follow a lot of video gaming news (where fans specualte ad nauseum). It's pretty tough for game developers to totally surprise the hard core folks because they always have to file for trademarks etc. Wouldn't Cedar Fair (or KI, depending on how the business is structured) have to file for, and be granted, construction permits? Not to mention trade/service marks for the name of the attraction/ride? USPTO filings for trade/service marks usually happen a month or two before an announcement (sometimes much longer), not sure about construction permits etc.
  24. I asked here because, prior to purchasing the passes my mother made two or three different calls and wasn't given consistent information about the process (of buying them as a gift) and almost just gave me the cash to buy them myself to avoid potential confusion later.
  25. My family were given a Gold Passes as a Christmas gift from my parents. I was hoping folks here could clarify some things. I know I could call the park and ask some of these questions, but I'm looking for actual customer experience type of feedback rather than someone on a phone reading a script. Do I have to wait until opening day to pick up my pass or can I drive down (from Columbus) earlier and pick up our passes? I really would like to avoid a mass of people (not to mention actually get ERT on my first visit to the park) and my better half really likes Ikea and it's not far from the park (two birds, one stone). Are the Bring-a-Friend discounts restricted to certain days/dates, or is it a straight up perk of the Gold Pass? If we upgraded from Gold to Platinum between this season and next, would it be considered a 'new' pass, or would we qualify for the renewal price? Thanks in advance!
