I would just like to know what makes Star Trek nerdy? You may know many people who don't like it, but I probably know just as many that do. Each person has their own tastes, so let's not resort to labels for people who like this or that just because you don't like it. I know many "Nerds" whom like Scooby Doo as well. So, be careful how you label people. I am glad that they themed it to Star Trek and from what I understand, there will be some good theming to it. I've never been to Carowinds, but I'm planning to make a trip there this year since they got a flying coaster. Back in my school days, students who used computers were considered Nerds, now just about everyone knows how.

I remember my first looping coaster too...The Screamin' Demon at KI. That ride used to have the longest lines for it. Now, it rusts in my hometown park...Camden Park.

I have heard somewhere that PKI was fixing the theming with AE, which is in disrepair.

I would like to see Eiffel Tower get a new coat of paint too. I don't see how someone can pass by and not notice how horrible it looks. But, at least they are taking steps to do the little things that would spruce up the park like painting Vortex, updating the fountains, and, I believe that someone has already stated somewhere on this board that Adventure Express is being worked on. Kudos to PKI. Yes, the main reason I go is to ride the rides, but I am pleased that they are fixing the minor eyesores within the park. Maybe it will get closer to the former glory days before Paramount.

Sorry, my mistake. I wonder when they'll rename TC'sTJ? I don't really think that too many kids these days even know who Top Cat is.
-
Actually, Beastfreak, The Scooby Zoom is not Top Cat's Taxi Jam, but The Beastie. Scooby Zoom was a woodie.

My first coaster was the Little Dipper at my small town homepark of Camden Park in West Virginia, shortly followed by the Big Dipper at the same local. The first coaster to really scare me was The Racers at KI (before PKI). A also liked the Bavarian Beetle at KI. (Yikes! Giving away age on that one!) And, the Scooby Doo (Now The Beastie) The one that got me hooked for life? The Beast. And, as I recall, I did not ride it until after about 2 or 3 years after it opened. Funny thing is, I'm not sure what initially scared me about riding this one except for the name. You really can't see that much of the coaster itself, so that couldn't have been the reason.

How cool! To have the #1 and #2 flat rides. I liked some of the others that I saw like Sledgehammer and Powersurge. Anyone else notice that the majority of the top ten flats are located at Paramount Parks? Maybe that's the new record that they are going for...to have the best flats at any of their parks.

Actually Chef, if you get the Boomerang Network like I subscribe to, you can still see the Jetsons, Flintstones and other HB greats on that network.

I am glad that this crew has taken upon themselves to do something not only to break the monotony, but maybe get a few laughs in the process. If only more ride ops and crews would do this same thing. This reminds me of a trip that I made to CP last year. My friend and I went to ride the Cedar Creek Mine Ride. I can imagine since this is not one of the major coasters or rides that it could be quite boring. We also joked that this guy must have been turned down for the Dragster coaster. Anyway, in his spiel in a very monotone and unthrilled voice he says, "Welcome to the Cedar Creek Mine Ride. We are going to take you up a whopping 40ft., not once, but twice." It made us laugh immediately, and we couldn't help but talk and laugh about it all day. That is some of the difference I think that ride ops and crews can do to make standing in line more enjoyable.

Exactly how is TTD not a new creative coaster? I do believe it is the only stratacoaster in the world. Never mind it's the tallest, fastest, and most extreme coaster in the world. Anyway, I still think PKI needs a new coaster. Doesn't have to be record-breaking, just a good steel coaster. The best they have to offer in steel is FOF or Vortex. Seems they are overdue for a new steel. And yes, PKI came right in behind CP, but let's not forget who cleans up in other categories other than attendance. Like CP's ability to win consecutively the award for moving the most people thorough their rides. And, friendlier workers, and better accomodations located on their premises. The only award for PKI...Best Kid's Area. Craptacular!
-
I don't know about jumping any bandwagons, but you have to admit, with the way that steel coasters have become much smoother these days, the argument that Arrow coasters are too rough is legit. Granted, back in the glory days of The Vortex, it seemed really smooth compared to a woodie, but not now. You have rides like Millenium Force out there that just plain ride like a cadillac. Actually, all of the Intamin coasters I have been on are extremely smooth.

Actually, The Beast is considered a terrain coaster, not an out and back. The Racers are out and back coasters.

SOB Rider says, "B&M's don't age well when they're not maintained" and then blames B&M instead of the park. One question...What coaster could possibly hope to stay in good condition if the park doesn't perform regular maintenance on it? Do you think that The Beast would still be standing if not for the regular replacement of wood and parts?

What about a screaming squirrel family coaster?
PKI Homey replied to PKI Homey's topic in Coming Attractions
I hardly think that lying down on the couch and then suddenly getting up is anything but comparable to Dragster. It is 17 seconds of pure glory. I have never ridden anything quite like it. Granted, it is not my favorite coaster, but it is a furious ride. I agree with browntggrr in that if you have not ridden it, you can't really have much of an opinion on the experience of it. What I want to know is, why did no one here blast Wicked Twister? It's a short coaster as well. But, worthty of my top ten. I still think I would like to ride the screaming squirrel. Looks interesting and is quite innovative as well. -
How about a new B&M standing coaster called Kobra's Revenge at PKI? I still like the idea of a standing coaster. From an historical standpoint, it is a shame that Kobra no longer exists. It was my first standing.

You could put one in (like TTD) at PKI. Why? According to many sites, there's some strong opinions that say PKI does not compete with CP. I, on the other hand, strongly disagree seeing how they are not that far apart. Anyway, Amen browntggrr. With me, you're preaching to the choir. TTD is all that and more. Sounds like there's some anger and possibly jealousy because CP likes to build high quality, intense coasters often, whereas PKI, you just never know when and if they will put in a new coaster. -

For the record, it's a two trick pony. One trick, 420 ft. tall hill. The 2nd, the spiral on the way down. . Anyway, I don't think that Hypersonic XLC could be all that great of a ride. That truly seems to be a one trick pony. The screaming squirrel on the other hand, even though it is an ugly structure, looks like it could be fun. -
What about a screaming squirrel family coaster?

Ok, I'm confused here. We are talking about a ride that virtually few people have had the chance to ride it and someone says they're so...eh. How were you able to determine this when you've never ridden one? I'm tired of hearing CP goes for quantity and not quality. Anyone who has ever been there would not say this, so my guess is those people have never been there. TTD is definitely a quality coaster, and a new generation of launched coasters that obviously the amusement parks are taking seriously. Now, there's a rocket coaster being built for next year at Hershey Park, bringing the total to three. Yes, I know Cedar Fair owns two of the parks that built one, but it seems there will be more to come with longer versions that do more including inversions. -
Sometimes I watch roller coaster video specials from the Travel Channel, Discovery Channel or whatever. I also like to daydream about what I would do if I were in control of the park. I agree offseason stinks. You know, I passed up on several occassions to go to PKI for one reason or another, but now that the offseason is here, it really sucks that I don't have the option of going to PKI. Need coaster fix...bad. Maybe I'll buy the new K'nex Rippin' Rocket coaster to ease the blues.

What about a screaming squirrel family coaster?

Actually, I have ridden both Intamin and S&S towers and prefer the S&S because most of the time you can get a double experience on them. One tower shoots you up while another blasts you downward. Intamins only have one...down. By the way, how can you tell from that screaming squirrel video that it has low capacity? Nothing in that video tells me that. You haven't even seen the specs yet on that coaster, which will tell how much hourly capcacity is possible. -
You could be right about that coasterfan. My question is...if a food stand that is leased by say Bubba Gump's Shrimp, who takes care of its daily operation, i.e. employee wages, stocking food? If it is BG's, then I could see where corporate sponsorship for a food stand could be a big plus to the park. PKI would not have to pay wages or stock the food for the stand. And you're getting a chunk of change for allowing them lease space in your park.
-
I think that Gilette still makes the Mach III razor. Although, there's a new red one out there. I agree with an earlier post that said that corporate sponsorship is ok if it is not overdone (ex: Top Gun). I think that we will see more corporate sponsorships in the future at least in the way of food if not rides as well. Bottom line is it will help the bottom line in $$$.

Do you know where I could find a picture of this larger S&S coaster that is located in Japan? How tall is it? How fast does it go?
-
Sounds to me like SFMM has no one to blame but themselves on the problems that they have had with X. I hope that one day, S&S can figure out how to correct those problems and come out with a reliable version. I would like to see more of these types in different parks. Here's another S&S question. How reliable is Hypersonic XLC? I figured that if it had become more reliable, then more amusement parks would be interested in getting one with a different design. I'm sure that they could make one that is much taller.
