DeLorean Rider
Thank you for the tips but I know all of that stuff. Every time i go up beast or raceer, or even Vortex i look around for area's possable and I will state this again. Rivertown is geting a Dive COaster!! Thes is kind of a stupid question but what is a dive coaster??????????????????????????????????????????????? There is no need for that many question marks, even just one, yes one, would have shown that you were asking a question. A dive coaster is a B&M coaster that is either 8 or 10 accross that goes vertical. They are very larg coasters. Most notable coasters are Sheikra at Busch Gardens Africa, Griffon at Busch Gardens Europe and Oblivion at Alton Towers. Example: But Oblivion doesn't go vertical I never said it did, I just said it was a dive coaster.
Browntggrr
Not to mention, I'm sure that B & M would not like it if Intamin would use the term "dive coaster".
The Interpreter
Mr. Interp. Do you still have you paper Slip I gave you I actually gave it to a high ranking official of a park somewhere or other. I am sure she found it helpful!

DeLorean Rider
Huh, well would you look at that. Well I guess I did say that. But since I work for B&M and all, and Oblivion being the first coaster to define a dive machine, we've decided that we're going to continue labeling it as a dive machine. It looks vertical and to us, thats good enough. Plus we have a patent on the name dive machine so we can use it whenever we want. Infact we like the name so much that we're going to rename ALL of our coasters to dive machines, just because we're B&M and what we call them is what they are! And we say that Oblivion IS a Dive Machine! See just look at our website: http://www.bolliger-mabillard.com/products/diving_en.aspx DeLorean Rider wondering what came over him... Monroe
^I don't care if you are joking, I would watch what you say. Some of us on here (I know of one other besides myself for sure) that sub contract for several ride manufactures. The term "Diving Machine" is a copyright by B&M, they do not own a patent. Any one can make a "Dive Coaster", that is a coaster with a hill that qualifies as vertical (qualifying a hill is defined by the manufacture). B&M qualifies a "Diving Machine" at 89deg because of the configuration of the carriage (and no the seating arrangement has nothing to do with it). Believe it or not a 90deg drop is more harmful to a carriage than 70deg, you can not have as much play in the carriage to track contact for a 90deg drop, it would cause too much stress on certain parts. And yes 1deg makes a big difference with angles above 80deg. There is no real definition for "Diving Machine" or "Dive Coaster", as a matter of fact there are several manufactures that have hills on coasters that they define as vertical, I can assure you that they are all off by at least 1deg or more in either direction. Yes there is a coaster that is I think 92deg but I could be wrong, I know it does go over 90deg.
The Interpreter
Perhaps you think of Maverick, where the drop is 95 degrees? http://www.rcdb.com/id3570.htm The steepest wooden drop is on El Toro, 76 degrees. http://www.rcdb.com/id3183.htm
DeLorean Rider
A Dive Machine, is a coaster that B&M deems, a Dive Machine. Though I cannot be positive, I HIGHLY doubt that B&M does not have a copyright on the term "Dive Machine" in the amusement industry, and have a patent on the track and train designs for the coaster. Monroe
^It is not "Dive Machine", that is a device for diving in water. The term that B&M uses is "DivING Machine" and yes they do have a copyright on the term "Diving Machine". The only patents that they have are on the mechanics of the ride, such as the train, carriage, and track design (not layout such as a vertical hill), and several other design features. And no Interpreter I will not leave you out. Thank you for doing my home work for me, I was stuck in a hotel room because my flight was canceled. I have had a nasty summer and a lot on my mind that I did not realize that the over 90deg hill a friend of mine was talking about was on Maverick. I really need a vacation, may be Ceder Point next week.
DeLorean Rider
yes they do have a copyright on the term "Diving Machine". The only patents that they have are on the mechanics of the ride, such as the train, carriage, and track design . Well then it seems we're in agreement. Though I cannot be positive, I HIGHLY doubt that B&M does not have a copyright on the term "Diveing Machine" in the amusement industry, and have a patent on the track and train designs for the coaster. My mistake on the "ing". As for the post about working for B&M, yea, that was a joke. The bottom line of which being it didnt matter that Oblivion didn't go 90° it is still in the Diving Machine catagory. DeLorean Rider Hover Boarding away... Cormaster
I'd be down for a dive machine, gigacoaster, or floorless. Either way I since they just got Firehawk this year, I doubt we'll see a new coaster next year. I don't think they've ever put 2 new coasters in 2 years in a row. The Interpreter
Never say never. Many of us thought Cedar Fair would NEVER be silly enough to pay almost $1.25 BILLION dollars for Paramount Parks.
Raptor66
Well, Scooby's Ghoster Coaster was installed in 1998, Face/Off in 1999, and SoB in 2000. Of course, that was also under Paramount.
TOPGUN1993
2001 Reptar
Cormaster
Well I wouldn't count the kiddie coasters, as they are much cheaper and quicker to build as they are small. I didn't realize Face Off and SOB were back to back, I thought Face Off was 1998 but I guess I was wrong. Needless to say I know they announced SOB in 1999 and had a weird box that growled sitting by The Beast. You could get on-line and look at the whole track layout for the Son. Cormaster
I never rode it, as I could never ride any kiddie coaster. My first trip to KI I was 8 years old and i could barely fit on The Beastie (now called fairly odd coaster) then (I was like 5'5 as an 8 year old, always a tall one), so I know I couldn't fit on Runaway reptar or Scooby Ghoster Coaster. The Interpreter
You might be surprised. You may very well fit Reptar. As for Scooby's Ghoster Coaster, I was always a very tight fit on that. After I lost a great deal of weight (but not as much as I have now), I KNEW I'd fit much better. To my shock, I didn't. You see, I wear 11 EEEE shoes. And my getting my feet in and out of those very awkward restraints was about 90 percent of my fit problem on that coaster! Then I lost more weight, and couldn't wait to see how I fit. So what happened? They took it out, of course. Sigh!

Beast1979
There are only 2 drop coasters on the planet. Both at Bush Gardens. What tells you KI will get one? Rivertown Has little room to expand. Check The Map. I'm on board with the Idea of a B&M Hyper behind The Racer. And the box looks really cool. Moreover, B & M calls their version "diving machines." The original one, built by B & M, isn't even in the USA. Here's a hint. UK. There are four operating and one under construction. Plenty know about it. It's been talked about into oblivion.

I belive the only way you could put it there is take out TR:TR and use it as a station. B&M! B&M! B&M! B&M! B&M!
DropZone99
That box is awesome! There is a chance we could get a new roller coaster next year, in 1998 we got Scooby Doo's Ghoster Coaster, 1999 Face/Off, 2000 SOB, 2001 RR. Notice that the two biggest rides in that time period was Face/Off and SOB... Firehawk is closer to the size of Face/Off than SOB so we could get a bigger coaster next year. Doubt it, but there is a chance. =]
CoastersRZ
I`d say there is about as much chance of Kings Island getting a roller coaster next year as there is of Cedar Fair retiring all of its debt next year.

The Interpreter
Not to mention the fact the company intends to reduce the overall relative size of its capital budget, as has its chief regional competitor.
