Dvo
I'm just basing that on this article... nothing like a good beat-down after you get off work. http://wsbradio.com/news/071207sixflags.html
WooferBearATL
I'm just basing that on this article... nothing like a good beat-down after you get off work. http://wsbradio.com/news/071207sixflags.html Incident occured off park property and outside park hours. So is an employer to be inherently responsible for their employees when they act independently of the employers direction & off of the employers property? I would say that within the last 3 years that the service within SFoG is nothing but top rate. (note - further than 3 years ago, this was a different story)
The Interpreter
Yep, Six Flags is a very different place than just a couple of years back. I've had very good experiences at Six Flags this year and last. The parks are cleaner, nicer and the people operating them seem much, much happier. Vortex
I heard that the voters are asked to vote for their local them parks. Looking at other peoples trip reports from around the world it makes you really wonder about the Golden Ticket Awards. Looking at the awards not a lot of people get out of the state of Ohio. Now if some one has been on both coast and rode a lot of different type of coasters I would call them well traveled.
Browntggrr
^ Voters are also subscribers to Amusment Today as well. How can the magazine know if their subscribers are "well traveled" or not? The Golden Ticket Awards are just as bad as Tainted Bowl XL. (for those non-Cheaters fans out there!)
The Interpreter
Or Motor Trend's Car of the Year...where the winner just so happens to buy a huge spread advertising said award. What a coincidence! How much publicity does Amusement Today and Gary Slade get from these awards? How many people subscribe just to vote? Seems like a happy coincidence of vested interests to me... CoastersRZ
The Golden Ticket Awards are the only annual awards that are given out to the amusement park industry. As with any voting scheme, it is essentially a popularity contest. There is no scientific method about how the awards are determined. Parks like to use the Golden Ticket Awards as a marketing strategy. For Kings Island, that means saying that they`ve had the best children`s area in an amusement park for seven straight years. For Cedar Point, that means saying they`ve been voted best amusement park for ten straight years.
WooferBearATL
All marketing and advertising. Little substance and basis for the awards. It's worse than the Miss America contest.
Browntggrr
^ But not nearly as bad as the wooden coaster poll that ranked Mean Streak in the top 10 a couple years ago. Yet, CP decided to actually put up a large banner stating this ranking. After seeing where they put MS, I completely dismissed the poll. I actually forgot which one it was. The Interpreter
Inside Track. A publication that eventually started coming sporadically, then stopped and never did honor its obligations to subscribers, advertisers or the industry. Mark Wyatt ran it. He would not want me to say his name. It got so bad, he was the subject of a spoof: http://www.absolutelyreliable.com/2002_10_...morarchive.html
welchce
Speaking of new awards... I wish there were the "Brown Ticket Awards" that highlighted the worst rides/parks in the industry... I'm sure if you started that yourself you'd get tons of emails from enthusiasts giving you their 2 cents about rides/parks. And it's not really that bad of an idea and like I said you really wouldn't have to look too far for votes.
