Dismantling Geauga Lake...

Recommended Posts

I was over at GeaugaLakeToday.com (I wouldn't stop by there right now -- they ain't happy) and someone posted some photos of Thunderhawk being removed as well as what appears to be some flat rides and the Dominator and Thunderhawk trains being prepped for shipping.

Notice that the downhill part of the initial drop on Thunderhawk has been removed. This is almost exactly how they began the removal of X-Flight

Thunderhawk's trains being prepped for shipping?

Dominator's trains being readied for transport?

Dominator still stands untouched as of the other day...

What appears to be some flat ride and flat ride accessories ready to be shipped/sold/scrapped.

I would suspect that the removal/relocation of Thunderhawk and Dominator has been planned for sometime. I'd suspect the entire dismantling of the rides side was a more recent decision. At least that's what my gut tells me.

Actually, it obvious that they knew of the demolition of the rides side prior to the end of the season. Employees are on record for having taken significant final rides on the attractions... including the GM. Eyewitnesses say the GM was acting in a very melencholy manner when taking a final ride on the Big Dipper.

Good question! From what I am hearing PGA has sort of "turned the corner." Apparently the waterpark is a huge success for them.

However with a future new NFL Stadium looming by, who knows.

I will say this... I was floored when I saw Great America in CA a few years ago. It is literally in the middle of a million corporate office buildings. I never expected an amusement park to be located smack dab in the center Silicon Valley... but that's pretty much what it is. Obviously the park came first... but it was really unusual when I saw it.

If they don't plan on relocating Villain, I wonder if they could send one of the trains to KI, and actually set SOB up to run with a 3 train operation? It's possible, they could add another block out-side the station so they don't have to use the block brake as a holding area. Just wishful thinking. I doubt it will happen.

They seem to think on that site that CF just decided to do this last Friday, from the rate at which removal has started I'd wager to say they had this planned long before last friday.

Probably right...I suspect x flight was the first clue. It saddens me to see so many smaller parks being closed....the family type community venues are slowly becoming a thing of the past in this country.

How many roller coasters does GL have? I think around 8? Well most of them will be going to some other park.. and the rest will be scrapped. There is a possibility we could get one. I would either want Villain, Steel Venom, or Big Dipper. No i haven't ridden any, but Villain looks awesome ive rode WT and it is almost the same except one spike is straight, and i would want Big Dipper because it is a classic and all the GL fans wouldnt have to drive far to ride it.

I haven't been to GL, so take this for what it's worth -

SV is a no-go. Dorney will be putting that in for 2008 as Voodoo.

Big Dipper would be nice, but it's really hard to move an 80+ year old wooden coaster. Not saying it's impossible, but improbable.

Villain looks OK. If they do decide to relocate it, I guess KI wouldn't be a bad place, but again its not very probable. We just got X-Flight/Firehawk for this season, and other parks are in more need of a new coaster. The first park that comes to mind is Great America. They only have 1 woodie, and that's from '86. Another is Worlds of Fun, as they have 1 woodie too. However, they just got Patriot for '06, so that might be something to consider. If I were a betting man (which I'm not - I'm underage ;) ), my money would be on Great America to get Villain if a relocation is in order.

Yup Geauga had 8 rollercoaster’s and 10 in 2006. I would LOVE if Big Dipper could go to Kings Island that way a little piece of GL would be in one of my favorite parks and one that’s near by!

would like to see a coaster come over... and maybe this could be a HUGE cash in for the NU area. But other than add "Americana" (ferris wheel) to Coney Mall... i wouldn't want any of their flats.

i'm kind of disappointed. This site is usually right on top of things. Apparently this has apparently been "public" for going on a week now.
