Does CP still do this policy?

Here it goes my rant on how stupid this is. I was at Cedar Point in line for the Mantis. The line was maybe 20 minutes or so. We got about half way threw when it was spitting out. The rain was so light it wasnt even hitting everyone. The ride still closed and no longer than 3-4 minutes the ride was reopened and running test. They had to re do a block test and what not and ran about 7-8 cycles which took about 10 minutes. How freaking stupid.

Paramount didn't have an incident on Magnum XL200 that precipitated (bad pun intended) the change in policy. I doubt any amount of guest complaints will change it. It is for safety reasons, and I'm quite sure that guest complaints, though important, will not outweigh the concerns that caused the policy to be created.

It still sucks; Cedar Point and Kings Island are two differnt parks, So what they're coaster collided with another train. I still think the policy is a load of crap. So what its sprinkleing, I like rideing rollercoasters in the rain! its an awsome ride experince.

I had almost the same thing happened to me. The rain was so light that I didn't mind having my camera out. We decided to stay in line since we figured if Mantis wasn't running, no other major coaster would be. Eventually it started to rain pretty hard and we had to wait quite awhile while they added another train to the track and then ran tests for quite some time. That pond fills up pretty high when it rains...

We also had a snake crawl up from the water and into the mantis queue line, although I was already up on the stairs at that point, I was not at all happy about that.

Hold on.

There is an accident, and it is determined that the cause was due to wet brakes.

One park adds magnetic brakes, which pi$$es everyone off.

Another park shuts rides down, which pi$$es everyone off.

So what do you suggest? Obviously each park has tried something. If they had not changed something either mechanically or changed some policy dealing with weather and the same accident would have happened, then what? There are injuries, lawsuits, bad press for the park. Not to mention the premium for their insurance goes through the roof and the guest either suffers from higher gate prices or less expensive rides being built to compensate.

This is a great example that you can't make everyone happy.

You are absolutely correct. I totally agree.

I wouldn`t say that the magnetic brakes on The Beast made everyone unhappy.

And with regards to the rain policy. Obviously, safety is a prime concern. Where to draw the line when it comes to rain is the question. Obviously, Cedar Fair has decided to heir on the side of extreme caution. If they let the rides continue to run in a constant rain, it would be hard to determine when they crossed a line in which it is unsafe to operate them. Granted, if they are also shutting down indoor rides like Flight of Fear and Scooby Doo and the Haunted Castle for a light rain as well, there is certainly something not right about that. But keep in mind, the park has your best interests in mind with regards to safety.

It's funny how policies change. I can remember way back in the day when rain wasn't really considered an issue, only lightning. I've had many rainy rides on The Beast. Of course, everything changes, especially in this litigious time. It reminds me of these new "booster" seats for young children. When I grew up, there were only the belts.

I have rode a many of coasters at KI in the rain, it really wasn't all that fun anyway, the rain hurts. But If it's only a light rain or a sprinkle I don't think they should completely shut the rides down. But if what happened at Cedar Point on Magnum earlier in the season Cedar Fair would have never adopted this policy.

What all of you have to remember is that if it is raining, there is a possibility for lightning or static in the air. It does not have to be raining either. Static can destroy a ride in milliseconds, and grounding does not always help. Static (lightning) will strike where ever it wants to, inside or outside. All it needs is a source, path, and destination. So my opinion on the matter is, I would rather wait an extra hour for a slight rain delay than two weeks for them to fix some thing that could have been avoided.

There is no doubt about that.

I was at CP for Raptor's opening day. Not only were there numerous downtime issues (which i should have guessed there would be), it was cold and raining.

We went on Magnum in a light- steady rain and man did it hurt. Like cold shards of glass piercing your skin.

I can only imagine what rain would feel like on MF or TTD.

In 2000 I made it to CP for MF's opening year, and my first ride was on a chiilly rainy day in May. It was not a pleasant rain, but that still goes down as the best roller coaster ride I've ever been on. I'll never forget how scared I got when I was at the top of that lift so fast and I looked straight down the structure on the left side. Best in the business.

Well, I don't think many people will know what a rainy TTD feels like, since it goes down anytime rain is in the area. And I really don't think I want to know how it feels, either.

MF, on the other hand, is a totally different ride. I went on it during steady rain, but nothing really heavy. It didn't hurt too much, but it was definitely a different experience. Going down that first drop in the rain was like nothing else in the world. ;)
