JacksonPKI
In 1991, Kings Island Built the Adventure Express with the help of Arrow Dynamics, as we all know. But the rumor is, Arrow Dynamics had plans for it to be longer, with more drops and turns, but, Kings Island had budget Cuts, and was forced to have it end right after the Second Chain. Is there Any Truth to This? (This topic may also be used as a topic for all AE rumors)
KIBeast
That would certainly be interesting if the rumor turns out to be true. I have never heard that one. The way it is now, I can't imagine it being much longer as it is a pretty long ride as is.
JacksonPKI
The park website said 2:30, which is decent. But the rumor says more feet of track, so yea, who knows. I was wondering if the "shortened Track" was somthing on Arrow's end. It was made in 1991, and by then their demise had started. Look at Top Gun! IT was made by Arrow in '93, and it's as short as all get out!
flightoffear1996
Top Gun is short yea but not much else could fit into that area. Its a nice little ride and as short as it is I still love riding it. Adventure Express is a great ride for the entire family to enjoy. There really isn't much more room back there to have any more drops and trun plus the station is raised and I would be willing to bet a 3rd lift would have be required. Why would arrow worry about the fall of there company so the shorten a ride that makes no sence to me at all when the longer the ride is the more profit you could make from it. JacksonPKI
^ O.K., You take ALL the fun out of rumors.
Outdoor Man
it would be nice to have reason to think that there is some plausible reason that the 2nd lift/tunnel would lead to something much better than the station. I remember riding it for the first time in 1991 and thinking to myself that maybe there will be a drop at the end, or a turn, or "something" other than........... the station. It is a classic poster-child example of a list of "good" Kings Island rides that fall just short of being 'great.'
XGatorHead 8904
I always considered the 2nd lift hill to be a funny social commentary on life. When the audio worked, it said something like "You have entered the forbidden temple. NOW YOU WILL PAY!!!!" The punishment for entering the temple, of course, would be having to get off the ride and living your life. Kind of a pessimistic view of life, but that's why I always thought it was funny. JacksonPKI
If I could I would spend my life on a roller coaster. The Dissapointment in my heart when I see the station ahead is just undescribable. That's why the AE ending is a let-down to most people, And I'm pretty sure that there were plans for more. I've took the liberty of circleing some likely areas where it could be lengthend.
KIfan73
Didn't AE used to have an on-ride photo?

PKIVortex
When the Audio worked? The audio worked all season, and they even finally fixed the guy at the top of the lift. Yes AE used to have an ORP, it was located on the second drop right before you go into the first tunnel.

JacksonPKI
if you look at all other Arrow mine rides, none of them end right after the second chain. Arrow doesn't end mine rides like that.
The Interpreter
Arrow did whatever the client wanted. As has been stated, Adventure Express was built as designed. The blueprints so indicate. Nothing about the design of the coaster even hints at more coaster to come after the second lift. Nor is it the only coaster that has a lift at the end to get back into the station. JacksonPKI
If that's how you feel, o.k. It's just a rumor I hered. But the rumor said, that the ORIGIONAL blueprints were longer. But, who knows.
The Interpreter
It's not how I feel. It's what I know. And yes, I have seen the blueprints. Have you?
JacksonPKI
I'm just saying, there's a rumor that the origional blueprints for AE were longer, but KI didn't have the money and a shorter version of blueprints before it was released. Over the past dozen or so posts I have been saying all the ways that the rumor could be true. You have been saying all the ways that it's wrong. That's fine by me, I'm not offended that you don't beleive me about a rumor.
The Interpreter
We aren't saying we don't believe you heard a rumor. We ARE saying that the rumor is simply not true. Like many others, from Vortex sinking to Kings Island owning nearly every independent park within 200 miles (from Holiday World to Camden Park...I've heard it and so have others). WooferBearATL
Well said Interpreter. What Interp was trying to say was that the plans for AE were left out in the rain. The paper shrunk when it dried out and thus..... the ride ends at lift two.
The Interpreter
Well, you must admit that Mr. MacArthur does make the announcement. And I remember the yellow cotton dress, something is melting in the dark...All the sweet, green icing flowing down and the old men playing checkers by the trees.... odettekitrigisele
Well, you must admit that Mr. MacArthur does make the announcement. And I remember the yellow cotton dress, something is melting in the dark...All the sweet, green icing flowing down and the old men playing checkers by the trees.... "I recall a yellow cotton dress foaming like a wave on the ground beneath your knees birds like tender babies in your hands and the old men playing Chinese checkers by the trees... MacArthur's Park is melting in the dark...all of the sweet green icing flowing down I don't think that I can take it cause it took so LONG to bake it and I'll never have that recipe again.......OOhhhhh no!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" LOL!!!!!!! I love that you quoted that song!!!!!!!!!!! Mr. Interpreter, I did want to ask you something... I recall you mentioning that you were at KI on opening day in 1972 (lucky) so I was thinking you probably have ridden new rides as they came along? If this is the case, do you think The Bat was a better ride than Top Gun? Was the Screamin Demon sold because it was unsafe or did KI just want to get rid of it? And finally, do you know why the Skylab disappeared? I never found this out. I am fond of your insight and I thought I could ask you and you would not think I was joking around.......aside from the Donna Summer song. I hope I did not offend you, it was not my intention. Thank you for any information that you may hold. Sincerely, Odette.
The Interpreter
a. I never got to ride The Bat. Each time I was at the park while it was there, it was not operating. Sigh! From what I have seen, it is my considered judgment that The Bat probably WAS a better ride than Top Gun, but Top Gun is very, very reliable! In perhaps an odd turn of events, I, unlike most locals up in New Jersey, got to ride Evolution many times while it was at SFGAd. And I got to ride each of the three US Deja Vus. Again, quite the accomplishment, given how often those things are/were down and not up. b. Screamin' Demon was sold to Camden Park in Huntington, West Virginia...where it operated for many years. It would still be operating today, had that park taken care of it during the 'dark years' when that park was owned by Bev and John Roberts. Sigh. c. Skylab, like many Huss Enterprise rides, was becoming a maintenance headache. Its near twin at Six Flags Great Adventure was also recently removed. Witches Wheel still operates at Cedar Point. I recommend it highly! Thanks for recognizing my goofy attempts at humor! That truly is one of my favorite songs. It has the same serendipity and deep, dark humor to it that I find helps me get through life!
