Captain Nemo
In 2009, S&S Power will build the world's fastest coaster. Built at the Nurburgerring in Germany. The 2009 coaster will have a length of 3937 feet, The launch will be from 0 to 135mph in just 2.5 seconds! Which means the acceleration will be 2.46g. Layout of ride In a nutshell, you blast off (Which is launched by air pressure) to 135mph in 2.5 seconds along a straight track. At the end of the launch you go into a 180 turn back to the station and into the breaks. Here is the link to the article. http://www.parkscout.de/artikel/neues_fahr...st_weltpremiere Here's the translation (kind of hard to follow, translation was not the best): More authentically it could hardly be. The strain before the start, the adrenalin, which ascends, if the traffic light jumps on green and the body, which is pressed under acceleration into the seat. Thus a running driver must feel - and so also the visitors of the Nuerburgrings will feel, if the spectacular roundabout, in the specialized jargon "Coaster" mentioned, which catapults guests on 217 km/h. To the comparison: A Formel-1-Bolide creates this not in 2.5 seconds, but needs from the conditions nearly twice as for a long time. Along the starting and goal straight lines of the Nuerburgrings this travel becomes direct the unique, genuine and lasting experience. Anywhere in the world passengers cannot let themselves be shot direct beside a racing course at such speeds. After the entrance of the passengers, which takes place in a station in the new indoor Attraction, the Coaster heads for its starting point parallel to the starting and target line on the material Grand Prix distance. The car accelerated from here on 217 km/h, drives 480 meters along the racing course and turns then in a sharp link curve. The route leads back by the boulevard and ends again in the station. Eight persons find thereby at the same time in two four-he cars place. Altogether 1.2 kilometers are put back. A quantity adrenalin including. Manufacturer of the roundabout is the company S&S power, which became generally accepted in a world-wide public bidding procedure. "S&S power is in the area of compressed air world-wide one of the prominent enterprises and had claimant Coaster very much experience", explains Dr. Walter Kafitz, managing director of the Nuerburgring GmbH. "the production of of the particulars components (among other things car, wheels, steel) is subject thereby to the German doing V standard, the German industry standard (DIN) as well as Europes standard (EN) and almost exclusively by enterprises to Germany and Europe is transferred." Acceleration with compressed air makes the highest speeds possible, is reliable, and uses little energy. Until 2009 a new experience world develops around the engine haven of the Coaster is approximately a component of the project "Nuerburgring 2009" in the Eifel, which is up-to-date in the building phase. Thus a boulevard along the starting and goal straight line, which unites weather-independently and all year round usable several offers under a roof, develops: Mark worlds of prominent car manufacturers and accessory specialists, a new indoor attraction (as mixture from Science center, museum and experience world), a Kartbahn, an indoor arena as well as a Eventhalle and a Welcome center. Additionally a modern main grandstand with 5.000 places and Business-lounge develops. A new four-star hotel with 160 rooms, the "Motorsport Resort" in the proximity of the Offroad park as well as the experience catering trade "village the Eifel" round the total offer in the region off. Up to the spring next yearly becomes in this way from the most successful racing course the world an all-season leisure and Business center approximately around engine haven and mobility. The Nuerburgring lures already now annually approx. two million visitors into the Eifel, who visit approximately 100 engine haven meetings and 200 other Events. KIBeast
It's cool that it will be the world's fastest coaster, but, I think it would be really boring considering that there's nothing else to the ride.
flightoffear1996
While its sweet its the worlds fastest coaster there is nothing else to it which would make everything after the launch suck.

Cody
Sucks, The Layout just stinks! I bet I could design something better =P
TheKlockster
Something like this would be 100% about the intensity of the launch. Would kind of let you experience the type of thing a drag racer experiences. Top Thrill Dragster sort of has the drag race theme to it - but the point of the ride was not to thrill you with the launch - but to break a height record. Didn't the ride break both height and speed when it opened? I think the theme of TTD is more consistant with the launch rather than the height. Browntggrr
Top Thrill Dragster sort of has the drag race theme to it - but the point of the ride was not to thrill you with the launch - but to break a height record. TTD was built for both record breaking speed as well as record breaking height. CP's obsession with a record breaking speed can be seen with the large sign at the end of the launch signaling how fast the prior train was going. TheKlockster
Ah yeah it did set the speed record. Still it is a record breaker. I know someone who races his souped up car at Edgewater and he found the launch on TTD to be boring. 135 mph in 2.5 would sure pack more of a punch than 120 mph in 4 seconds. italianchef
Wow! I hope that one of our people can ride this new coaster and do a trip report. I've always wanted to visit Germany, but have never gotten there. The closest I've been to there was the Germany Pavillion at Disney's Epcot. The food, music, and many of the staff were authentic German. Germans are great engineers, but the first roller coaster was created in Russia. That's another country I'd love to visit for its history. And I'm sure it has some pretty good roller coasters, too. Best regards, Italian Chef
jzarley
^ in fact, the original "roller coasters" were of Russian design. They started out as ice slides, but the royals enjoyed it so much they wanted to "slide" in the Summer too, so wheels were added to the sleds. (Of course, we've come a long way since then! )

Best regards, Italian Chef I'd be willing to go to Germany, photograph the coaster, ride it, and create an ultra super duper trip report with video and such if you all wanna fund it! Let the "SEND GORDON TO GERMANY" fund drive begin!
