italianchef
I miss the Hanna-Barbera characters walking around International Street and what was once Hanna-Barbera Land. After SDATHC is removed from Kings Island, there will be nothing left of H-B's historic influence.

After SDATHC is removed from Kings Island, there will be nothing left of H-B's historic influence. Since Scooby is still around, then KI must be able to use H-B characters, am I right or wrong? Then in addition to the Nick characters why can't some of the popular H-B characters be added again? In addition to Scooby, what about adding Shaggy, George Jetson, Huckleberry Hound, Yogi, and maybe Tom & Jerry. Combine Nick and H-B. There isn't alot of characters that are popular on Nick anyways. I would hate to see H-B characters die at KI, so what about combining them. I think alot of people would agree with me. I'm sure if the coasters can be renamed, some of the childrens rides can be renamed also, to accomodate combining them.
CoastersRZ
The only reason that Kings Island still has Scooby Doo, is because the licensing agreement for that came with the ride through the manufacturer, Sally Dark Rides. So no, there is not a possibility that you will see other HB characters return to meet and greets anytime soon. However, remember that both Scooby Doo and Yogi Bear were featured in Endless Summers on Ice last season! No Nick characters popular with kids these days? I beg to differ with that statement. Dora the Explorer, Jimmy Neutron, and Spongebob Squarepants are pretty big among youngsters today. Nick is certainly bigger right now then the old HB franchises. Discodude3737
The park converted to Nick characters for a reason. I'm pretty sure they have very little interest, other than for the sake of nostalgia, to return to HB. To say that NU is popular would be an understatement, it has quickly become one of if not the most popular sections of the park.

Regardless they will NEVER be as popular and last as long as H-B!!!
CoastersRZ
I didn`t name all the characters from Nick that are popular. Fairly Odd Parents (I still hate that name for The Beastie/Scooby Doo), Danny Phantom, are among some of the other more popular Nick franchises. Regardless they will NEVER be as popular and last as long as H-B!!! You know, I really don't understand why so many older people on forums like these fail to realize this....and by older i mean as in HB was to you what Nickelodeon is to kids today. Sure, HB was great for you, you have lots of memories, yeah yeah yeah but thats what Nickelodeon is to todays kids. HB just isn't as popular with kids today, trends emerge, fads change. It has been made clear that Nickelodeon is obviously much more popular with kids today than HB, although some think HB is making a come back. I just don't see why people can't get past the "HB is better than anything" mentality, kids are different these days, things change. I really don't think parks like KI and Mall of America would do as well if they dropped their Nickelodeon licensing. Yeah there may be boomerang, but Nickelodeon is easier to get on cable and seen by more than boomerang is. Even Cartoon Network created Boomerang to make room for newer cartoons to compete with Nickelodeon. Scooby Doo is obviously an exception as it had its own separate "comeback" and revitilization, even with that, its failed to keep up with Nickelodeon. I'm glad everyones got such great memories of the HB characters and what not, but things do change.

Charles
I wouldnt mind see Yogi Bear & George Jetson walking and greeting guests in fact I hope they do bring in the HB favs. My friend works for KI, dressing as Scooby Doo. He told me that in the cast dressing rooms, they still have all of the old Hanna-Barbara costumes, of which they've tried on before. He also told me that they were even allowed to wear them for a day when the park was only open to company picnics. It's possible that we just might see some Hanna-Barbara characters! Ohh, how I miss it.

I'm pretty sure they have very little interest, other than for the sake of nostalgia, to return to HB. To say that NU is popular would be an understatement, it has quickly become one of if not the most popular sections of the park. Yeah because paramount parks wanted to use characters that they OWNED i.e.Nick and Nicktoons characters.Gordon's right kids of today are different however I'm sick of hearing that Nick is 1# and thats what kids know and adore..I mean kids also watch Disney and visit Disney Parks and Cartoon Network they visit six flags as well...Cedar Point has Snoopy for crying out loud! I read the news over at ToonZone.net that for the past 3 months Disney had been beating Nick in the ratings for children ages 5-15! Hell,I have a 7 year- old nephew and he would rather watch scooby-doo & Tom & Jerry than watch spongebob half the time.I agree with gordon 100% all kids are different these days some of the younger set have no clue who Fred Flintstone is but WB does promote his image (I know Junk Food Tees has Flintstone & Jetsons shirts coming out here soon) ...also it wouldnt hurt the park to mix it up and have the popular HB characters greet guests on International Street. The Interpreter
I think you miss the point. The park's HB license has expired, except for Scooby and The Haunted Castle, which rights came through Sally, the ride's manufacturer. Some of the shows last year had HB characters, but those come with the rights to the show. To have the characters in the park, Cedar Fair would have to get a license from Time Warner, HB's current owner. I don't see them spending the money to do that, assuming that Time Warner would even license the characters to Cedar Fair, given their relationship with Six Flags, which Time Warner used to own. RaCeR
Did Hanna-Barbera ever have its own T.V channel?I liked Hanna-Barbera land better than Nickelodeon Universe.I hate it when they play the commercials for fruity pebbles because i loved Fred flinstone and Bam-bam and pebbles.I also loved scooby-doo and The Jetsons.I miss Hanna-Barbara Land.Even though i only remember some of HBL because near 2003-04 Nick started to INVADE!! Its to late for HBL. R.I.P
RollerNut
The license for Hanna-Barbera has not expired, Canada's Wonderland still has Hanna-Barbera Land, and Kings Dominion still has Boo-Boo, Top Cat, Touche Turtle, and more in Kidzville. The agreement is that the first four KECO parks have never ending rights to use the Hanna-Barbera characters. The license was agreed upon in 1984, and is still in effect at all four parks included in the agreement. Great America is not included in the agreement because it wasn't until 1985 that Great America was brought by Santa Clara, and KECO was brought in to run the park. Also, Wonderland Sydney was not included in the agreement either. Great America and Wonderland Sydney may have been added on when they opened, but I would imagine at a fee that was either really high or they were given a separate agreement for x amount of time. Wonderland Sydney used the HB characters for 19 seasons. I would imagine that if an separate agreement was reached for GA and WS(AW) that it would be for 10, 20, 25, 30, or 50 years. GA was passed the first two. With 25 coming 2010. Source: http://timelines.home.insightbb.com/taft.htm
The Interpreter
Yes, KECO had a never-ending license...but as I understand it, that license applied to KECO only, NOT its successors and assigns. Paramount Park executives pointed out many times that one reason why Nick Universe became such was that the H-B license that Paramount had was expiring. stremmefan
First of all, Nick today does not even compare to what H-B was, and never will. Nick is just a passing phase! Also when KI opened, it was all H-B. That would be from 1972 - what about 2004? Thats 32 years. Then somebody is gonna come in and change what KI has had for 32 years. Thats messed up! Would Disney be the same if their characters were changed? Granted KI is not Disney, and Disney will NEVER get old. I understand changes happen, and for a few years Nick will be popular with the little ones. Then what happens when they phase out in about 2 years? H-B has been around a LONG time, and children and adults of all ages still enjoy them. Sure, keep the Nick characters momentarily while their around, but don't phase out what KI has always been. You say the contract expires at the end of 2009? The costumes are still in the dressing rooms. So bring them out! Let us enjoy what KI has always been. BRING BACK H-B! Try it out for the 2008 season, and see how much your visitors still enjoy them. If it works out, extend the contract, and then rename rides. That part wouldn't be so hard, considering you are doing it now. In fact lets even make it a poll.
RollerNut
Carowinds does bring Yogi Bear out in Endless Summer for some odd reason. It doesn't make sense why when they don't let the HB characters walk around the park. I was told that Carowinds threw out all costume except for Scooby-Doo, but apparently not unless Cedar Fair brought a new Yogi.
The Interpreter
As I explained earlier, show licensing is separate from, and different than, walk around character licensing...
RollerNut
Which reminds me, I was also told that the Scooby-Doo walkaround license expires after the 2006 season. I may have been given false information however, but Scooby is still walking at Carowinds. Maybe Cedar Fair renewed the license for Scooby-Doo and the other HB characters. I remember this because it is the reason I took a picture with Scooby-Doo and almost brought the one the park took.
