IheartKI
I was at the park on Wednesday...needless to say it was pretty tame. The park closed at 8:00 PM, there was obviously no fireworks display that day, and Boomerang Bay was closed. Here's my question: Is it fair that Kings Island charge full price admission? I have a season pass, so it doesn't really affect me. But for the people who just went down for the day, and were planning on being there all day and doing everything, is it fair that they pay full price admission? Has Kings Island ever thought about giving a discount to patrons on the days when they can't run the park at full operation? THe reason why I am wondering is because there was a person at Guest Relations complaining. I didn't stick around long enough to hear the outcome, but it just got me thinking. jondrewfoo
boomerang bay closes promptly at 7 every day i believe... and the park never has fireworks unless it is open until 10 pm or later, that is a known and posted fact...
fcbaseball
Well, if it was not displayed that boomerang bay was closed and it was expected to be open, and the park closed before the scheduled closing time, then they might have had a case for this complaint. But, because I highly doubt that either of the two things happened, I would have to say you get what you pay for on that day. If they were wanting to see a fireworks show, stay at the park until 11, and go to boomerang bay, then they should have picked a better day to go. For all I know that's the way the park has run for 30+ years and I don't see them changing it anytime soon. They have to remember that its just a business that is trying to maximize profits and thats the best way to do so.
KIBeast
If they don't like the hours, they can always go on a day when they are open later. At that specific time of year and day, that is their full operating hours, so I don't see a discount for that.
DeLorean Rider
If it were me, I'd rather pay full price on a day like wednesday because of the lack of crowds. The way I see it, the people that go on days like those this past week are getting far better bang for their buck as they can ride most everything with very little wait. I would easily pay more for a day at the park with some closed attractions for part of the day and NO lines than I would a Saturday where the park is PACKED, closes at 11, but has all the rides open. Besides, pre and post season weekend days have 8:00 closes and no Boomerang Bay. People will pay full price to get in this upcoming fall just to have to leave the park at 6/7PM (if Cedar Fair does indeed make Halloween Haunt an upcharge. BoddaH1994
Actually, the scrolling marquis at the entrance to the park always display this info. Off the top of my head, yesterday's message was something like, "Park Open 10am-8pm. Boomerang Bay 11am-7pm. No fireworks display tonight. Modified ride operation." Delirium33
I was surprised on Wednesday that they didn't open Boomerang Bay-- I thought it was supposed to be open memorial day weekend to labor day. It was posted on the scroll, but there were a lot of people with swimsuits at the park, so they obviously expected it to be open.
flightoffear1996
With the low pay the operators get there main draw is proably high school students who most of them are in school. Less workers means less rides open. What the point of having the park open to 8:00 when hardly anyone would stay past then?

According to VisitKingsIsland.com, it opened daily on May 24th and doesn't have an operating calendar to say otherwise. I wonder what's up with that... Outdoor Man
actually the online ticket price is for sale at a reduced rate until sometime in June. So, i think technically they do have a discount for these early operating days.
BoddaH1994
I think the price goes up to the $34.99-ballpark area... I'm not 100% positive on that, though.
jondrewfoo
it is good to note, that while you cannot buy those tickets for the same price after whatever the set date in june, you can however buy them now and they are good any public operating day this year.... if i didnt have a season pass, id do that... The Interpreter
It's also interesting to note that Dorney Park has always had steeply discounted tickets for the dry park before and after Wildwater Kingdom is open for the season....
CincyDeb
You know what sucks...Kings Island isn't open until 11pm anymore (outside of Halloween Haunt) like it used to be. Back in the day (I'm 36), our parents would drop us off at Kings Island at 8am. International Street opened at 8am and the rides opened at 9am...and we would stay until 11pm when the fireworks were. Now its 10am to 10pm. Sucks. Luckily, I have a season pass, so we go up only for a few hours at a time...but it's still a bummer. All this changing ownership has really brought down KI. The park can only be open while there are enough employees to run the park. I don't agree with the statement you made about the changing ownership. The park is in great shape, and obviously CF is putting money into the park (swan lake mystery construction). Times change. I also wonder about the closing time being changed due to the City of Mason not wanting fireworks going off late at night. Just a thought. Gordon Bombay
Not to mention that labor laws for minors have changed over the years, and KI employs a lot of those affected by that type of law.
The Interpreter
And if you think Kings Island has short hours, you should look at parks like Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom, Carowinds or even Six Flags Over Georgia.
KI-ORIG-EMP
I lived in near by Kings Mills and trust me, the fireworks always went off at 10PM, even when the park used to close at 11PM. The rides always opened at 10AM and I-Street used to open at 9AM. KI is very strick on the enforcing of the minor labor laws.
