DeLorean Rider
I hope they fight it with everything they've got. Tourism is already bad enough with the price of gas where it is.
Cory Butcher
This could be the tax that breaks the piggy's back. Hopefully this tax is implemented at a friendlier economic time than now.
KI-ORIG-EMP
http://news.cincinnati.com/apps/pbcs.dll/a...EWS01/306250106 I think this is a ploy to finance their pet projects. Seems strange they made the new community center expansions plans public and then put across the plan to raise the admission tax.
CoastersRZ
And, what about all the rapid increase in housing going on in the Mason area? Are they going to tax those new communities as well, in order to help recover some of the infrastructure costs these new communities place on existing systems? And keep in mind that Kings Island is part of the reason that this area is continuing to see massive growth (Warren County is one of the fastest growing counties in the state of Ohio). Personally, I think that an admissions tax in concept is fair. Charge the visitors to the parks so that the community can recoup some of the fees associated with police, fire and road maintenance. Those are services that these tax payers can benefit from. But what happens when the collected money is used to finance the new community center, or to develop Mason city parks? For the most part, the people that frequent Kings Island are not going to take in these local community spots. And don`t forget that all residents within the city of Mason have to pay a 1% earnings income tax, which includes all the workers who work at Kings Island. So Mason is already getting some money from the park (not to mention the neighboring Kings Local School District which benefits from KI`s property taxes). If this new tax is passed, I`d be KI wishes that they never would have seeked to be annexed into the city of Mason from Deerfield Township. iChase
Like RZ said, in concept it's not that bad. I just think they could wait for a more economically friendly time. Now is the absolute worst time to try to impose taxes on a tourist-based destination.

Browntggrr
It does not appear that Mason's mayor is looking at the big picture. Sure it may be difficult for KI to go back to Deerfield Twp. But what kind of message are you sending to potential entertainment venues considering Mason? If Mason is growing at such an alarming rate, why would you even consider biting the hand that feeds you? Also, does this tax include all admission priced entertainment? Or is it just KI and The Beach?
Erosarrow05
While i think it only pertains to The Beach and Kings Island, I would agree that it should encompass anything where an "admission" fee is charged. Movie Theaters, Night Clubs etc...
XGatorHead 8904
There have been rumblings about this for years, even when Mason first annexed KI. At the time I was there, we always knew that there was a potential for Mason to do this, and we were opposed to the idea then. We had discussed it and even back then if Mason had proposed this the park planned to fight it, which I believe in all honesty they should, especially at this time in the economy. I know I didn't like the fact that when Mason annexed the park, I had to then pay city taxes on my earnings. I live in a small section of Sycamore Township that is not within the boundaries of any city, and I loved not having to pay city taxes there or at work. I know I was lucky then, now I work in Blue Ash so the Mason annexation prepared me for working in a majority of the region. But on the other hand, it is a great way for the city to earn money. However, it should be earmarked specifically for police, fire and infrastructure needs that arise due to the attractions being there. It should not be used for items such as the community center, which I refuse to believe is "outdated, becoming obsolete" as Eric Hansen, the city manager, claims. While I've never been in the community center proper, I have been to Corwin Nixon park there, and attended events at Mason High School. From the outside of the community center, I would think that other areas around here would LOVE to have what Mason currently has. Unless the money is earmarked like I specified, I am opposed to this, especially since I now go there as a visitor. That 3% tax on my $89.99 season pass will buy me a half gallon of gas!
