Amusement Today Readers Award Kings Island with Golden Ticket for Best Kids’ Area in the World

Legendary Beast voted one of the 10 best wooden roller coasters in the world

Kings Island, Ohio – For the eighth year in a row, Amusement Today readers awarded Kings Island with the prestigious Golden Ticket Award for Best Kids’ Area in the world.

Expanding over two exciting neighborhoods dedicated to SpongeBob SquarePants™ and Dora the Explorer™, Nickelodeon Universe features more than 18 attractions and more kids’ roller coasters (four) than any other park in the world!

In addition to receiving the award for the Best Kids’ Area, the legendary Beast roller coaster was voted the eighth best wooden roller coaster in the world. The Beast made its debut in 1979 and still stands today as the world’s longest wooden roller coaster at 7,400 feet.

The Golden Ticket Awards are the result of a survey conducted by Amusement Today, a respected amusement park trade publication. Every year, hundreds of well-traveled theme park enthusiasts are chosen to share their expertise to determine a winner in each category. A list of all the Golden Ticket Award winners can be found at www.amusementtoday.com.

Kings Island is owned and operated by Cedar Fair Entertainment Company, a publicly traded partnership that is listed for trading on The New York Stock Exchange under the symbol “FUN.” In addition to Kings Island, Cedar Fair owns and operates ten other amusement parks, six water parks, one indoor water park resort and five hotels. Cedar Fair also operates the Gilroy Gardens Family Theme Park in Gilroy, Calif. under a management contract.

I have a feeling I might be the only one to debate this...

But are you serious?! There's so many better 'kids areas' out there in other parks. Umm...Disneyland and Disney World! The Magic Kingdom! Sure, Nick U is an above par section of KI, but it's most certainly not the best. Odd Coaster is rough, Reptar's one train ops SUCK, Wild Thornberry's is boring, my experiances with Scooby Doo have proved it's very frustrating to play, and Avatar is NOT a coaster.

Maybe it's just the blue ice cream freezing their brains. Hey, it's the Golden Tickets...boring boring boring, CP wins best park, Voyage gets the best woodie, SFFT gets best shows, Schlietterbahn gets best water park, and Busch gets prettiest. ACE doesn't have the balls to give the award to something different than CP or Superman. These tickets are just something a park can flaunt around to the GP. Yay for KI, I guess...

Purely political.

Bought and paid for awards.

I am not sure I would agree with some of the results but that that would be just my own opinion.

I really do believe though, if they gave a Golden Ticket Award for best Promotional Entertainment, I think Kings Island would win that award hands down this year.

What? Have you not experienced a Gravity Group creation yet?

And the reason that Wooferbear said that they awards are bought and paid for is because I believe that the parks have to pay Amusement Today in order for the right to use the award that they have one in marketing material. Not to mention that it is nothing more than a popularity contest in which the selected judges vote on the categories based on the parks that they visit every year. It is open to the opinions of the judges (some of whom are coaster enthusiasts and not necessarily park enthusiasts).

And not even to the public as a whole.

There are just so many flaws in this type of thing.

It's no secret that I completely detest popularity contests. I see no worth in the Golden Ticket Beauty Contest. What's with this obscene need to rank everything at a park as #1, #2, #3. Anyone that goes to a fair amount of parks should be able to point things out at any park that is to their liking. What a novel idea it would be to actually laud a park for advances and actual accomplishments. But really, that would not generate some of the funds that Amusement Today were really looking for. But hey, it is a business.

ACE has exactly NOTHING to do with the Golden Ticket awards. Not a single thing. Period.

Sigh.

Many of the voters are members of ACE, but that's the closest correlation.
