CoastersRZ
According to Myrtle Beach Online, Hard Rock Park in Myrtle Beach has been sold for $25 million. The new owner, FPI MB Entertainment, hopes to be able to close the deal quickly with the hopes of reopening the park by Memorial day, of this year! Read the entire article from Myrtle Beach Online here: http://www.myrtlebeachonline.com/news/loca...ory/779327.html I have to wonder exactly who these new buyers are. Hopefully they can operate HRP successfully for years to come. What remains to be seen is if the Hard Rock name will leave the park or not, and whether it will retain its rock and roll theming. violakat03
That is really good news. I was afraid it was going to end up rotting away and sold piece by piece with most of the coasters going to scrap instead of new homes. If they can manage to close this sale and open it again, hopefully they will learn from what HRP messed up last year and make it successful. Cory Butcher
Today's story...an update to Robbie's posting: http://www.myrtlebeachonline.com/business/story/779547.html This is far from a done deal yet, note this line: The company, which is registered in Delaware, is asking the court to approve the sale of the property - free of liens - by Feb. 20 In almost all foreclosures, bankruptcies, and sheriff sales, liens and defaulted taxes ARE a part of the sale. In very few instances are properties sold free of the liens against them. While this is good news so far, let's see where this goes!
nhimes90
That is great news! Holefully they can restructure and make it through 2009. I hope they survive the current economy. I wish them luck!
The Interpreter
Actually, MOST property sold by the trustee in a bankruptcy is sold free of liens. The question is whether the deal is in the best interests of the creditors. If not, the sale will not be approved. See also: ...If another buyer emerges with a better offer at the hearing, the trustee will conduct an auction.... http://www.myrtlebeachonline.com/business/story/779547.html So, the park is NOT yet sold. But, it may be soon.
keiko_coaster
I'm going to myrtle beach in 3 weeks. I kinda wished they would be open because there's not much else to do down there LOL
RailRider
This would definately be a Functional Process Improvement for Myrtle Beach Entertainment. I hope for the sake of the MB that this is able to go through. Would be great for the park to open under new managment that from what little is known about them already seem to have a plan on what needs to be done to get the park up and running. tigellinus
^^i.e. NOT blowing through an entire LOC intended to last longer than 3 months!! I'm going to myrtle beach in 3 weeks. I kinda wished they would be open because there's not much else to do down there LOL Hmmm...I thought the opposite of this mentality is what partly casued HRP to close in the first place?! kittenpooh
That is great news! Holefully they can restructure and make it through 2009. I hope they survive the current economy. I wish them luck! It seems like a very nicely themed park. I hope it can make it threw the rough economic times also. Best of luck to them

BoddaH1994
This could potentially be a good sign - not just for the park but for the entire economy.

tubaman
Harry County Council Chair Reacts To HRP Offer: http://www.scnow.com/scp/news/local/grand_...rp_offer/32995/ Horry County. I think I should get a medal for catching a mistake made by you. It's a rare occurrence in my opinion. Anyways, I find this interesting. The buyers will be getting the park at a fraction of the original investment. Hopefully they can do something with it. It would be a shame to see it go to waste...well more of one. The Interpreter
At the time I made the post, the headline said Harry County. It has since been corrected. And yes, I saw it. I am glad you did. Perhaps I should have used a [sic] (as in thus it reads in the original, but that seemed a bit pretentious (pretendious?) for here!)

violakat03
There's a second bidder, though it seems the first bidder has a more solid plan and since they've already put in a down payment and secured full financing, I'm thinking they will most likely get it. It appears to me that the second bidder is more of a "feeler" bid to see if they'd actually be able to get the park, where as the first one is more of a "we want this and we've already done what's necessary to get it." http://www.wistv.com/global/story.asp?s=98...tType=Printable
kittenpooh
I can't believe some one is going to be able to buy the park for 25 million. It was originally 400 million. They are basically stealing it..lol. I just hope it helps the park get on there feet. Like I said it looks like a very well themed park. Just needs more rides

Perhaps I should have used a [sic] (as in thus it reads in the original, but that seemed a bit pretentious (pretendious?) for here!) ...and, never pronounce it the way it's spelled (around a local at least). I was there on business one time was politely informed that it's pronounced "O-Ree County"

Cory Butcher
From the preliminary news coming out for the possible bidders, I am hoping that FPI gets the park. They seem to have been the most proactive in this process! Oh, and Memorial Day is much closer than "sometime in June"!

RailRider
I just dont see the local company that is interested being succesful. They are talking tickets for rides, pay for each show or armbands. I see FPI MB being the better more organized option, like you mentioned Cory. They also seem very serious since they have all of their financing together.
tigellinus
^^cue Terpy's opinion on the pro's and con's of POP!!
The Interpreter
Which has been stated again and again. The short course: tickets allow riders who want to ride again and again to have much shorter lines, moms and pops to come with their kids, grandparents with their grandkids and catch a few rides for the kids without being pillaged for the high POP price, and give parks a surefire way to know what pays for itself and what does not. POP (pay one price) gives parks assured revenue from each guest, gives guests the often inaccurate perception they are spending less than they would for ride tickets (how often do you get your money's worth of rides on a busy weekend in a themer?), and helps eliminate the selling tickets, taking up tickets, counting tickets, theft of tickets problems that smaller parks used to have.
